3-part hypodermic syringe without needle
Description
The Terumo 3 Part Syringe, 10ml, Eccentric Luer Slip (MDSS10ESE) is a sterile, single-use, three-part hypodermic syringe without needle. Designed for the injection of fluids immediately after filling, aspiration of fluids and sampling of blood or other body fluids, it features an eccentric Luer slip tip to facilitate parallel-to-skin injections and line access. The syringe has a highly transparent polypropylene barrel with bold, easy-to-read graduations for accurate dosing, a smooth-running plunger with silicone oil lubrication, and a latex-free thermoplastic elastomer gasket for secure sealing. Each syringe is individually sterile-packed, with 100 syringes per box.
Bnefits
- Sterile, single-use 3-part syringe designed for safe injection, aspiration and sampling of fluids.
- 10 ml capacity with eccentric Luer slip tip for injections parallel to the skin surface and improved access to certain sites and lines.
- Highly transparent barrel for excellent visibility of contents and easy detection of air bubbles.
- Bold, high-contrast scale markings to support precise dose measurement.
- Latex-free gasket (thermoplastic elastomer) helps reduce the risk of latex-related allergic reactions.
- Smooth plunger movement thanks to high-quality manufacturing and silicone oil lubrication for controlled injections.
- PVC-free construction in many regional specifications, contributing to reduced environmental impact and compatibility with a wide range of drugs.
- Individually sterile-packed, allowing convenient aseptic use at point of care.
- Box of 100 syringes provides cost-efficient and practical supply for clinical environments.
Indications
- Intended for the injection of fluids immediately after filling into the human body (parenteral administration as per clinical protocol).
- Aspiration of fluids (e.g. blood or body fluids) when used with appropriate needles and accessories.
- Sampling of blood or other body fluids for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes when used with compatible devices.
- General use in hospitals, primary care, emergency services, outpatient clinics and other healthcare settings where 10 ml syringes are required.
Composition
- Barrel: medical-grade polypropylene (highly transparent).
- Plunger: polypropylene (polystyrene only used for 1 ml syringes in the Terumo range; 10 ml plunger is polypropylene).
- Gasket: thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), latex-free.
- Lubricant: medical-grade silicone oil on the barrel inner surface and/or plunger for smooth movement.
- Tip: eccentric Luer slip connection (standard Luer geometry for compatible needles and devices).
- Packaging materials: paper/plastic blister or peel-pack for individual sterilised syringes; cardboard outer box for 100 syringes.
Formulation
- 3-part syringe (barrel, plunger and gasket) without pre-attached needle.
- 10 ml nominal capacity, eccentric Luer slip tip.
- Sterile (e-beam or equivalent sterilisation process to a validated sterility assurance level, typically SAL 10⁻⁶).
- Non-pyrogenic and single-use only.
Packaging
- Box of 100 individually sterile-wrapped syringes (MDSS10ESE).
- Each syringe supplied in its own sterile blister or peel-open pack.
- Outer cardboard carton labelled with product name, capacity, tip type (eccentric Luer slip), quantity, lot number and expiry date.
Usage
- Check the outer box and individual sterile pack for integrity and expiry date before use; do not use if packaging is damaged or expired.
- Open the sterile pack immediately prior to use using aseptic technique.
- Attach a suitable sterile Luer-compatible needle or device to the eccentric Luer slip tip, ensuring a secure connection.
- Draw up the required fluid or medication by pulling back the plunger while the needle or device is immersed in the solution or connected to the source.
- Remove any visible air bubbles by gently tapping the barrel and expelling air as appropriate, taking care to maintain sterility and dose accuracy.
- Administer the medication or perform aspiration/sampling in accordance with clinical guidelines and local protocols.
- After use, do not recap needles to avoid needlestick injury; immediately dispose of the entire syringe and needle assembly in an appropriate sharps container.
- Do not reuse, re-sterilise or autoclave the syringe; it is designed and validated for single use only.
- Always follow local infection prevention policies and the product’s instructions for use (IFU) for detailed warnings and precautions.
Contraindications
- Do not use if packaging is opened, damaged or if the product is past its expiry date.
- Not intended for use with high-pressure injection systems (e.g. power injectors) unless explicitly specified by the manufacturer.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the syringe materials (e.g. silicone oil, certain plastics), although the product is latex-free.
- Do not use for intrathecal injections or other specialised applications unless compatible and approved according to clinical protocols and device labelling.
Adverse Effects
- Adverse effects are generally related to the procedure, medication or needle rather than the syringe itself.
- Potential for local tissue damage or pain if used incorrectly (e.g. inappropriate injection technique).
- Risk of infection or cross-contamination if aseptic technique is not followed or if the syringe is reused contrary to instructions.
- Needlestick injury risk to users if standard sharps-handling precautions are not observed.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry environment at room temperature, typically below 25°C, away from excessive heat and humidity.
- Protect from direct sunlight and sources of ozone or other degrading chemicals.
- Keep in original packaging until use to maintain sterility.
- Keep out of the reach of children and unauthorised persons.
Duration
Not applicable \u2013 the syringe is used for a single injection, aspiration or sampling procedure and then discarded.
Onset
Immediate in terms of mechanical function; clinical onset depends on the drug or procedure being performed, not on the syringe itself.
