Disposable healthcare particulate respirator (FFP2, valved)

Description

The 3M Aura Disposable Healthcare Respirator 1872V is a premium, flat-fold, FFP2 valved filtering facepiece respirator designed for healthcare environments. Using 3M’s proprietary 3-panel Aura design and low breathing resistance filter technology, it provides comfortable, effective protection against airborne dust particles, non-volatile liquid particles and bio-aerosols. The sculpted nose panel and large, soft nose foam help the respirator conform closely to the nose and face contours and improve compatibility with 3M eyewear, while the Cool Flow exhalation valve helps reduce heat and moisture build-up inside the mask for cooler, more comfortable wear during extended periods. Each respirator is individually hygienically packaged to protect it from contamination prior to use, and the foldable design makes it easy to store and carry.

Bnefits

  • FFP2-level respiratory protection against airborne dust, non-volatile liquid particles and bio-aerosols in healthcare settings
  • Proprietary 3-panel Aura design improves facial movement, fit and wearer comfort, and folds flat for convenient storage
  • Low breathing resistance filter media delivers effective filtration with reduced breathing effort and consistent performance
  • Cool Flow exhalation valve helps remove heat and moisture build-up, providing cooler, more comfortable wear
  • Sculpted upper nose panel designed to conform to the nose bridge and facial contours, improving compatibility with 3M eyewear and helping to reduce fogging
  • Innovative chin tab makes it easier to position, don, adjust and achieve a good fit
  • Large, soft nose foam enhances comfort and helps create a better seal against the skin
  • Individual hygienic packaging minimises the risk of contamination before use and simplifies distribution
  • Flat-fold, lightweight construction facilitates storage, transport and issue to staff
  • Latex-free materials (no components made from natural rubber latex) reduce risk of latex-related allergic reactions

Indications

  • Use by healthcare workers and other personnel in medical environments requiring FFP2 respiratory protection
  • Protection against airborne dust particles, non-volatile liquid particles and bio-aerosols, including clinical and laboratory settings
  • Use in infection prevention and control protocols where FFP2 respirators are recommended or required (e.g. certain aerosol-generating procedures, isolation care, pandemic response) according to local guidelines
  • Suitable for use where EN 149:2001 + A1:2009 FFP2 NR standards are indicated for particle filtration

Composition

  • Straps: Polyisoprene elastic headbands
  • Nose foam: Polyurethane
  • Nose clip: Aluminium (adjustable metal nose strip)
  • Filter media: Multiple layers of polypropylene (melt-blown and spun-bond nonwoven)
  • Valve body: Polypropylene
  • Valve diaphragm: Polyisoprene
  • Mask cover layer and inner cover: Polypropylene nonwoven fabrics
  • Does not contain components made from natural rubber latex

Formulation

  • Non-sterile, single-use, disposable FFP2 particulate filtering facepiece respirator
  • Flat-fold, 3-panel Aura design with integrated Cool Flow exhalation valve
  • Filtering facepiece classified as FFP2 NR in accordance with EN 149:2001 + A1:2009
  • Designed for half-mask coverage over nose, mouth and chin, with dual headbands for secure fit

Packaging

  • Box of 10 individually hygienically packaged respirators
  • Each respirator supplied flat-folded in individual plastic or foil packaging to protect from contamination prior to use
  • Outer carton labelled with product name, model (1872V), lot number, FFP2 NR classification and usage instructions
  • Boxes may be supplied in shipping cases for bulk distribution to healthcare facilities

Usage

  • Use only in accordance with applicable health and safety regulations, infection control policies and 3M’s user instructions.
  • Before use, check that the respirator is within its expiry date, the packaging is intact and the mask is free from damage or visible contamination.
  • With clean hands, open the individual package and unfold the respirator by pulling apart the top and bottom panels; use the chin tab to help position the mask.
  • Cup the respirator in one hand with the straps hanging freely; hold the respirator under the chin with the nosepiece up.
  • Pull the top strap over the head and position it high on the back of the head; pull the bottom strap over the head and position it around the neck, below the ears. Straps must not be twisted.
  • Mould the nose clip firmly to the shape of the nose using both hands, starting at the nose bridge and working outwards, to achieve a close fit and good seal. Avoid pinching the nose clip with one hand only.
  • Perform a fit check (user seal check) each time the respirator is donned, by cupping both hands over the mask and inhaling and exhaling sharply: air leakage around the nose or edges indicates the need to readjust the nose clip and straps.
  • Do not use the respirator with facial hair or other conditions that prevent direct contact between the sealing surface and the face; an adequate seal is essential for effective protection.
  • The respirator is intended for single shift use (NR – non-reusable). Replace it if it becomes damaged, soiled, difficult to breathe through, or if you leave the contaminated environment.
  • Discard used respirators safely according to local infection control and waste disposal procedures, and perform hand hygiene immediately after removal.

Contraindications

  • Not suitable for use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen or in oxygen-deficient environments.
  • Not to be used for protection against gases or vapours, including anaesthetic gases or high concentrations of chemicals that require specific gas/vapour cartridges or supplied-air respirators.
  • Not designed for use in explosive or oxygen-enriched atmospheres unless explicitly certified for such environments.
  • Do not use if the wearer has facial hair, scars or other facial features that interfere with a proper seal between the respirator and the face.
  • Not appropriate for individuals with medical conditions that might make wearing a tight-fitting respirator unsafe (e.g. severe respiratory or cardiac conditions) without medical evaluation.
  • Do not use if the respirator is damaged, visibly soiled, deformed or cannot achieve a satisfactory fit check.

Adverse Effects

  • Possible discomfort or pressure on the nose, face or head after prolonged wear, particularly over the nose bridge where the nose clip is located.
  • Potential for skin irritation, redness or sweating in sensitive individuals, especially with extended use in warm or humid conditions.
  • Breathing resistance may cause a feeling of restricted breathing for some users, particularly those with underlying respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
  • Incorrect fit or improper use can lead to reduced protection and an increased risk of inhaling contaminants.
  • In very rare cases, allergic-type reactions may occur to specific materials (e.g. polyurethane foam, polyisoprene straps) in sensitised individuals.

Storage Conditions

  • Store respirators in their original packaging in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight, contamination and extreme temperatures.
  • Recommended storage temperature is typically between -20 °C and +25 °C with relative humidity below 80%, or as specified on the product packaging and datasheet.
  • Do not store near solvents, oils or other chemicals that could degrade the respirator materials.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and non-authorised personnel.
  • Do not use respirators beyond the expiry date printed on the box or individual packaging.

Duration

Intended for single-shift, single-use wear in accordance with EN 149:2001 + A1:2009 FFP2 NR classification and local infection-control guidance. Replace at the end of a shift or sooner if breathing resistance increases, the respirator becomes damaged, soiled or contaminated.

Onset

Provides respiratory protection immediately upon achieving a proper seal and fit on the wearer\u2019s face; effective filtration begins as soon as the wearer breathes through the correctly-fitted respirator.
