Hard surface disinfectant wipes \u2013 70% isopropyl alcohol
Description
AZO Disinfectant Wipes (200) are strong, durable hard-surface wipes pre-saturated with a 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution. They provide rapid disinfection of non-porous surfaces and non-invasive medical equipment, killing key bacteria and other pathogens in under a minute, with typical validated contact times from 15 seconds. The quick-drying formulation leaves no residue and is widely used in clinical, dental, aesthetic and laboratory settings as part of routine infection prevention protocols.
Bnefits
- Pre-saturated with 70% isopropyl alcohol for rapid, effective disinfection of hard surfaces and equipment.
- Fast kill times, typically from 15 seconds, with bacteria killed in less than a minute.
- Broad spectrum efficacy: bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and yeasticidal, effective against organisms such as MRSA, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans and various enveloped viruses including coronaviruses.
- Quick-drying, no-residue formulation, allowing surfaces and equipment to be used shortly after application.
- Low-lint, strong and durable non-woven wipes that do not streak hard surfaces.
- Convenient tub of 200 wipes for busy practices, reducing the risk of cross-contamination between patients.
- BPR compliant and tested to relevant European EN standards for disinfectant efficacy.
- Designed for professional clinical environments including hospitals, dental and aesthetic clinics, laboratories and care homes.
Indications
- Rapid disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces in healthcare and clinical environments (e.g. worktops, couches, trolleys, dental chairs).
- Cleaning and disinfection of non-invasive medical equipment and devices, as part of infection prevention protocols.
- Use in high-traffic professional environments such as hospitals, GP surgeries, dental and aesthetic clinics, laboratories, nursing homes and other healthcare settings.
- Not intended for direct application to skin, open wounds or mucous membranes.
Composition
- 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) – active disinfectant component.
- Approximately 30% v/v deionised water (typically 0.2 micron filtered) as diluent.
- Non-woven wipe substrate (e.g. viscose rayon or similar strong, low-lint material).
- May contain denatonium benzoate or similar bittering agent to discourage ingestion (formulation-dependent).
- No added preservatives; designed to be low-smear and non-streaking on hard surfaces.
Formulation
- Pre-impregnated disinfectant surface wipes.
- Active solution: 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol in deionised water.
- Wipe material: strong, low-lint non-woven substrate.
- Typical wipe size: approximately 200 mm x 200 mm (standard tub format for Azo™ 70% IPA).
- Quick-drying, non-residue formulation suitable for use between patients.
Packaging
- Tub / canister containing 200 pre-saturated Azo™ 70% IPA disinfectant wipes.
- Foil seal under the lid on many formats to reduce evaporation before first use.
- Resealable snap-top lid to minimise drying out between uses.
- Outer labelling with usage instructions, hazard pictograms and safety information.
Usage
- For external use on hard, non-porous surfaces and non-invasive medical equipment only. Not for use on skin or mucous membranes.
- Open the tub, remove a single wipe and immediately reseal the lid to prevent wipes from drying out.
- Wipe the surface thoroughly, ensuring complete coverage; work from clean to dirty areas, using a single wipe in one direction where possible.
- Ensure the surface remains visibly wet for the required contact time (typically from 15 seconds to 1 minute depending on organism and local protocol).
- Allow the surface to air-dry completely; do not wipe dry with a separate cloth, as this may reduce efficacy.
- Discard used wipes safely as clinical or general waste in accordance with local policies; do not flush.
- Avoid use on incompatible surfaces that may be sensitive to alcohol (e.g. some plastics, rubber or painted finishes); test on a small inconspicuous area if necessary.
- Keep away from sources of ignition and do not use on hot surfaces due to the flammability of 70% IPA.
- Wash hands after prolonged or repeated use or wear appropriate gloves if required by local risk assessment.
Contraindications
- Do not use on broken skin, open wounds or mucous membranes.
- Not suitable as a hand or skin disinfectant unless specifically stated by the manufacturer for that purpose.
- Avoid use on alcohol-sensitive surfaces or materials (e.g. some acrylics, varnished or painted surfaces, certain plastics and rubber components) without prior compatibility testing.
- Do not use on or near ignition sources, open flames, very hot surfaces or where sparks may occur, due to the high flammability of 70% isopropyl alcohol.
- Individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to isopropyl alcohol should avoid direct contact with the wipes or vapour.
- Use with caution in poorly ventilated areas due to vapour build-up.
Adverse Effects
- Skin: repeated or prolonged contact may cause dryness, irritation or cracking of the skin (defatting effect of alcohol); may rarely cause allergic skin reactions.
- Eyes: causes serious eye irritation if splashed into the eyes, with symptoms such as redness, pain, watering and blurred vision.
- Respiratory: inhalation of high concentrations of vapour may cause irritation of the respiratory tract, headache, dizziness or drowsiness.
- Ingestion: accidental ingestion of the solution can cause irritation of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract, nausea, vomiting and CNS effects typical of solvent ingestion.
- General: product is highly flammable; exposure to sources of ignition may result in fire or explosion if sufficient vapour accumulates.
- Most adverse effects are preventable by correct use, good ventilation, use of gloves where indicated and avoiding contact with eyes and skin.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat or ignition.
- Keep the tub tightly closed when not in use to prevent evaporation and drying out of wipes.
- Store upright to minimise leakage of liquid within the canister.
- Keep away from oxidising agents and incompatible materials.
- Store out of the sight and reach of children.
- Dispose of opened and unopened product according to local regulations once past its expiry date or if wipes have dried out.
Duration
Used as a single-use wipe for immediate surface disinfection; there is no fixed treatment duration. Surfaces should remain wet for the validated contact time (often 15 seconds to 1 minute) and allowed to air dry. Frequency of use depends on local infection control protocols and patient turnover.
Onset
Rapid onset; microbicidal activity typically begins within seconds. Validated contact times for many target organisms are from 15 seconds, with bacteria generally killed in under one minute when the surface remains wet.
