Single-use biohazard blood spill pack
Description
Single-use Blood/Biohazard Spill Pack from GV Health (product code MJZ003, NHS Supply Chain code MJZ032), designed for safe clean-up and disinfection of blood and other biohazardous body fluid spillages. The compact pouch contains PPE and a SoChlor NaDCC-based system combining absorbent chlorine-releasing granules with SoChlor TAB chlorine tablets. The granules rapidly absorb the spill and release chlorine disinfectant to kill pathogens on contact, while the tablets are diluted to produce a high-strength chlorine solution for surface disinfection. Components are supplied together in one pack to minimise cross-contamination risk, ensure all parts are available at point of use, and make it suitable for use by non-specialist staff in healthcare and similar environments.
Bnefits
- Provides a complete, single-use solution for blood and biohazard spill clean-up and disinfection.
- Includes PPE (nitrile gloves and apron) to protect the user during spill management.
- SoChlor NaDCC absorbent granules both absorb the spill and release chlorine disinfectant, killing pathogens on contact and reducing cross-contamination risk.
- SoChlor TAB chlorine tablets dilute to a 10,000 ppm chlorine solution for effective surface disinfection against blood-borne pathogens and tuberculosis (TB).
- Compact, easy-to-store pouch improves accessibility and readiness in all clinical areas.
- Single-use pack format prevents fragmentation of components and ensures all required items are present when opened.
- Approved for use on a wide range of biohazardous bodily fluids including blood and multiple sterile body fluids.
- Spill kit and its SoChlor chemistry are certified to key European microbiological test standards (BS EN 1650, 1276, 13624, 13727, 13697).
- Designed to be safe and straightforward for non-specialist staff to use.
- Supports infection prevention and control by standardising blood/biohazard spill procedures.
Indications
- Environmental clean-up and disinfection of blood spillages on hard surfaces in healthcare and similar settings.
- Environmental clean-up and disinfection of other biohazardous bodily fluids where specified, including breast milk, amniotic fluid, vaginal secretions, semen, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), synovial fluid, pericardial fluid, pleural fluid, peritoneal fluid, unfixed tissues/organs and saliva.
- Use in hospitals, clinics, dental practices, laboratories and other facilities requiring rapid containment and disinfection of biohazard spills.
- Situations where a single, self-contained pack with PPE and disinfectant components is required for safe spill management.
Composition
- Active disinfectant: Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), supplied as SoChlor NaDCC absorbent granules and SoChlor TAB chlorine tablets (hypochlorous acid–releasing disinfectant).
- SoChlor NaDCC absorbent granules/tablet diluter: chlorine-releasing powder formulated to absorb liquid spills while releasing NaDCC disinfectant.
- SoChlor TAB chlorine tablets: NaDCC tablets that dilute in water to produce a 10,000 ppm available chlorine disinfectant solution for wiping contaminated surfaces.
- Biopolymer SoChlor applicator (from GV Health pack contents) to aid application of disinfectant solution.
- Non-active components: nitrile examination gloves, disposable apron, cardboard scoop and scraper, clinical waste bag, paper towels and printed illustrated instructions.
Formulation
- Single-use, pre-packed blood/biohazard spill pack containing NaDCC-based chlorine-releasing absorbent granules and tablets plus PPE and accessories.
- Solid NaDCC granules and tablets are reconstituted with water at point of use to form high-strength hypochlorous acid–releasing chlorine solution for surface disinfection.

- Allow adequate contact time as indicated on the product labelling (to permit disinfection of the absorbed material).
- Use the scoop and scraper to collect the absorbed material and any contaminated debris and place it into the clinical waste bag provided.
- Prepare a chlorine disinfectant solution by dissolving the SoChlor TAB chlorine tablets in water to achieve the recommended 10,000 ppm available chlorine concentration for blood/biohazard spill decontamination (as described in distributor product details).
