High-level surface disinfectant pods

Description

Clinell Enhanced Pods (Tub of 100, CSEP100) are chlorine-free, single-dose powder pods designed for high-level cleaning and disinfection of floors and general surfaces in healthcare environments. Powered by Advanced Peracetic Acid (APA) technology, the pods are formulated at near-neutral pH and fragranced with fresh linen to provide a safe and pleasant user experience. When added to warm water, they generate a blend of oxidising actives including peracetic acid, delivering fully sporicidal, mycobactericidal (including tuberculocidal), fungicidal, yeasticidal, bactericidal and fully virucidal activity, even in dirty conditions. Flexible standard and step-up dilutions (1 or 2 pods per litre) allow organisations to match disinfection strength to clinical risk while maintaining material compatibility and breaking down into non-harmful by-products such as water and oxygen.

Bnefits

  • Specifically designed for cleaning and disinfection of floors and general hard and soft surfaces in healthcare facilities.
  • Powered by Advanced Peracetic Acid (APA) technology to generate a blend of highly active oxidising agents on dilution.
  • Chlorine-free formulation that does not release toxic chlorine fumes when activated with water.
  • Formulated at near-neutral pH and fragranced with fresh linen for a safer and more pleasant user experience.
  • Provides fully sporicidal, mycobactericidal (including tuberculocidal), fungicidal, yeasticidal, bactericidal and fully virucidal activity, even in dirty conditions and under 5 minutes’ contact time.
  • Proven effective against Clostridioides difficile spores in dirty conditions in 5 minutes (EN17126), providing high-level environmental decontamination.
  • Effective in soiled conditions, functioning as a true two-in-one cleaner and high-level disinfectant rather than requiring pre-cleaning with a separate product.
  • Flexible dosing regimen (1 or 2 pods per litre; 5 or 10 pods per 5 litres) allows standard and step-up disinfection depending on risk level and outbreak situations.
  • Good material compatibility for common flooring and surface types and breaks down into non-harmful by-products (primarily water, oxygen and biodegradable components).
  • Supplied in convenient, pre-measured pods to improve dosing accuracy, reduce waste and support consistent infection-prevention protocols.

Indications

  • Routine and enhanced cleaning and disinfection of floors in patient areas, corridors, bed spaces and clinical rooms.
  • Disinfection of hard and some soft environmental surfaces such as bed spaces, hallways and high-traffic clinical areas.
  • Use in washrooms and bathrooms, including disinfection of floors and surrounding surfaces exposed to bodily fluids.
  • Cleaning and disinfection of ceramic fittings such as sinks and shower units, in accordance with local material-compatibility guidance.
  • High-level environmental decontamination during outbreaks or increased infection-prevention precautions, particularly where sporicidal activity is required (e.g. C. diff).
  • Use in aesthetic, dermatology, dental and outpatient clinics to decontaminate floors and general surfaces between patients or at scheduled cleaning times.

Composition

  • Sodium percarbonate (≤50% w/w) – oxidising agent that generates hydrogen peroxide and contributes to peracetic acid formation when activated with water.
  • Citric acid (≤25% w/w) – organic acid which, with sodium percarbonate, forms peracetic acid in situ and contributes to cleaning performance.
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate (≤5% w/w) – anionic surfactant that improves wetting, soil removal and cleaning of contaminated surfaces.
  • Other non-hazardous formulation excipients in low concentrations to aid stability, dissolution and performance.
  • On activation with warm water, the formulation generates peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide as key biocidal actives within the working solution.

Formulation

  • Single-dose powder pods for dilution in water.
  • Advanced Peracetic Acid (APA) technology, generating a blend of oxidising biocides (peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide) in a near-neutral pH solution.
  • Chlorine-free, scented with fresh linen fragrance.
  • Designed to function as a cleaner and high-level disinfectant in a single step, including in dirty conditions.

Packaging

  • Rigid plastic tub containing 100 Clinell Enhanced Pods (CSEP100).
  • Each pod is an individual, sealed, water-soluble sachet of powdered concentrate (do not tear open).
  • Tub label includes dilution table, basic instructions for use, hazard pictograms, batch number and expiry date.
  • Outer packaging may include tamper-evident seal and space for recording date of opening and prepared-solution expiry labels.

Usage

  • Always read the label, instructions for use and local infection-prevention guidance before first use; wear appropriate PPE (e.g. gloves, eye protection) as recommended.
  • Run the hot tap for approximately 30 seconds or until the water is warm to the touch (around 35–45 °C).
  • Measure the required volume of warm water into a suitable, labelled container (e.g. 1 litre or 5 litres).
  • Add the required number of Clinell Enhanced Pods directly to the container without tearing them open; allow the water-soluble pods to dissolve.
  • For standard dilution, use 1 pod per 1 litre or 5 pods per 5 litres of water; for step-up (enhanced) dilution, use 2 pods per 1 litre or 10 pods per 5 litres.
  • Secure the lid on the container; for 5-litre containers gently rock for about 5 seconds, and for 1-litre containers gently shake for about 5 seconds to mix.
  • Allow the solution to stand for 15 minutes to fully activate the APA chemistry; during this time, peracetic acid and other oxidising actives are generated.
  • Use a mop, cloth or other suitable applicator to apply the solution to floors and general surfaces, working systematically to ensure full coverage.
  • Ensure surfaces remain visibly wet for at least the contact times specified in local protocols (typically up to 5 minutes for full sporicidal and virucidal efficacy) and then allow to air-dry; rinsing is generally not required unless specified by the surface manufacturer or local policy.
  • Record the solution’s preparation and expiry time using the dry-wipe marker and label provided on the container, in line with local policies.
  • Discard any unused solution after 24 hours by pouring it down a suitable drain (e.g. sluice room drain) in accordance with local regulations.
  • After disposal, wipe the expiry label clean with the dry-wipe marker eraser or cloth and rinse the container with water so it is ready for reuse.

Contraindications

  • Not for use on skin, mucous membranes or wounds; it is intended for environmental surfaces only.
  • Not for ingestion or injection; do not drink or use as a food or drinking-water disinfectant.
  • Not suitable for use on surfaces or materials known to be incompatible with oxidising agents (e.g. certain metals, unsealed or delicate surfaces) without prior compatibility testing.
  • Do not mix with other cleaning agents or disinfectants, particularly chlorine-based products, strong acids, strong alkalis or other oxidisers, as hazardous reactions may occur or efficacy may be reduced.
  • Not intended for the high-level disinfection or sterilisation of invasive medical devices; use only as directed for floors and general environmental surfaces.
  • Individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the components (e.g. sodium lauryl sulfate) should avoid handling the product or use enhanced PPE.

Adverse Effects

  • Concentrated powder and activated solution may cause skin irritation, especially after prolonged or repeated contact without gloves.
  • Causes serious eye damage; splashes to the eyes may result in pain, redness, watering and potential corneal injury requiring urgent medical attention.
  • Harmful if swallowed; ingestion can cause irritation of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract and systemic effects.
  • Inhalation of dust from the dry pods (if damaged) or aerosols from the activated solution may cause respiratory irritation.
  • As an oxidising mixture, the powder may intensify fire if in contact with combustible materials; inappropriate storage or handling may increase this risk.
  • Spillages of concentrated product into the environment may be harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.

Storage Conditions

  • Store unopened pods in the original tub in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • Do not store at temperatures above approximately 35 °C and avoid high humidity, which can damage water-soluble pods.
  • Keep away from combustible materials and incompatible chemicals such as strong acids, alkalis and chlorine-releasing agents.
  • Ensure the tub lid is closed tightly when not in use; do not store loose or open pods outside their original container.
  • Store out of reach of children and unauthorised persons in accordance with local COSHH / chemical-safety requirements.
  • Prepared working solutions should be stored in clearly labelled containers and disposed of after 24 hours.

Duration

Used as a ready-to-use diluted solution for single cleaning and disinfection episodes; there is no fixed course. Surfaces should be re-cleaned and disinfected according to local infection-prevention schedules (e.g. between patient episodes, daily cleans and terminal cleans). Prepared solution should be discarded after 24 hours.

Onset

Biocidal activity begins once the pods are fully dissolved and activated (after approximately 15 minutes). Efficacy against many organisms is achieved within 1\u20135 minutes\u2019 contact time, with C. difficile sporicidal activity demonstrated in dirty conditions within 5 minutes (EN17126).
