Cleaning status indicator tape

Description

Clinell Indicator Tape - 100m is an eye-catching green, self-adhesive tape designed to clearly show when hospital equipment and other clinical items have been cleaned and are ready for use. Developed in conjunction with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Infection Control Department, the tape forms part of the Clinell Clean Indicator range. It is applied to commodes, bed frames, drip stands and other equipment immediately after disinfection, providing an instant visual cue that a full sanitation procedure has been completed. Each tape segment includes an \I am clean\ tick box and dedicated space to record the date, time and name of the person who performed the cleaning, helping organisations implement effective hygiene procedures and conform to UK Department of Health High Impact Interventions No. 8.

Bnefits

  • Provides a clear, highly visible indication that equipment has been cleaned and is ready for use.
  • Bright green colour and printed "I am clean" message make it easy for staff to see cleaning status at a glance.
  • Helps implement and standardise effective hygiene procedures across wards and departments.
  • Supports compliance with UK Department of Health High Impact Interventions No. 8 (environmental cleanliness).
  • Each strip includes space to record date, time and staff name, improving traceability and accountability for cleaning tasks.
  • Convenient roll format allows staff to dispense and tear off the length of tape needed for each item.
  • Ideal for a wide range of equipment such as commodes, bed frames, drip stands, monitors and other portable devices.
  • Simple and quick to use, adding minimal extra workload to existing cleaning processes.
  • Helps reduce duplication of work by clearly indicating which items have already been cleaned.
  • Leaves no significant residue on most smooth, non-porous surfaces when removed carefully, making it suitable for routine clinical use.

Indications

  • Labelling of commodes, bed frames, drip stands and other movable equipment after cleaning and disinfection.
  • Indicating cleaning status of clinical furniture and devices in wards, outpatient departments, theatres and other hospital areas.
  • Use in aesthetic, dermatology and cosmetic clinics to mark couches, trolleys and other equipment as cleaned between patients.
  • Visual confirmation of environmental cleaning during routine and terminal cleans.
  • Supporting infection-prevention audits and quality-improvement programmes by providing a simple record of when and by whom cleaning was performed.

Composition

  • Self-adhesive tape supplied on a cardboard core roll.
  • Plastic or laminated paper backing printed with green background and white/contrasting indicator fields (e.g. "I am clean" tick box, date, time, name).
  • Pressure-sensitive adhesive on the reverse side, suitable for adhesion to common smooth, non-porous equipment surfaces.
  • Ink and coating system formulated for legibility and durability during normal handling.

Formulation

  • Non-sterile, non-disinfectant, single-use adhesive indicator tape.
  • Supplied as a continuous roll of pre-printed indicator labels that can be torn to the required length.
  • Designed solely as a visual indicator of cleaning status and not as a medical device or biocidal product.

Packaging

  • One 100 m roll of Clinell Indicator Tape (approx. 3.8 cm width) supplied in a protective dispenser-style carton or sleeve.
  • Each roll supplied with a pen for completing the date, time and staff name sections on the tape.
  • Outer packaging clearly branded with Clinell and product description, plus basic instructions and manufacturer details.
  • Cartons may be supplied individually or in multi-roll outer cases for bulk clinical use.

Usage

  • Clean and disinfect the equipment or surface according to local infection-prevention protocols using appropriate cleaning and disinfectant products.
  • Allow the surface to dry if required by the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions.
  • From the roll, pull out a suitable length of Clinell Indicator Tape.
  • Tear or cut the tape to obtain a strip long enough to be clearly visible on the chosen item.
  • On the printed side of the tape, tick the "I am clean" box (or equivalent indicator) to confirm cleaning has been completed.
  • Use the supplied pen to write the date, time and your name or initials in the spaces provided on the tape.
  • Apply the tape firmly to a clean, dry, smooth area of the equipment where it is easily visible but will not interfere with safe use of the device.
  • Ensure the tape is securely adhered along its length to reduce the risk of peeling or loss.
  • When the item is due for re-cleaning, remove and discard the old tape and replace with a new strip after the next cleaning cycle.
  • Dispose of used tape and backing materials in general clinical waste according to local policies.

Contraindications

  • Not a disinfectant or cleaning product; should never be used as a substitute for appropriate cleaning and disinfection procedures.
  • Not intended for direct application to skin, mucous membranes or wounds.
  • Use with caution on delicate or painted surfaces where adhesive tapes may cause marking or damage on removal; test on a small inconspicuous area if unsure.
  • Not suitable for use on very rough, dirty, wet or heavily textured surfaces where adhesion may be poor.

Adverse Effects

  • Occasional minor adhesive residue may remain on some surfaces after tape removal and may require additional cleaning.
  • In rare cases, adhesive may cause slight marking or lifting of finishes on sensitive surfaces if removed aggressively.
  • Direct prolonged skin contact with the adhesive could potentially cause mild irritation in susceptible individuals; tape is not intended to be worn on the skin.
  • Small pieces of tape may present a choking hazard if handled by young children; keep out of their reach.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat to prevent adhesive deterioration and fading of print.
  • Keep in the original dispenser or carton when not in use to protect the roll from dust and contamination.
  • Avoid exposure to moisture, solvents or cleaning chemicals which may affect tape adhesion or legibility.
  • Store out of reach of children and unauthorised persons in a designated area for clinical consumables.

Duration

Not a treatment; each strip remains in place until the next cleaning cycle or until it becomes damaged or illegible. Tape should be replaced whenever equipment is re-cleaned or when the label can no longer be read clearly.

Onset

Immediate visual indication once the tape is completed and applied to the cleaned equipment.
