Universal detergent and disinfectant surface wipes

Description

Clinell Large Universal Sanitising Wipes x 120 (BCW120) are large, alcohol-free, single-use surface wipes impregnated with Clinell’s patented 2-in-1 detergent and disinfectant formulation. Designed for cleaning and disinfection of general surfaces and non-invasive medical equipment in a single step, they are proven to kill at least 99.999% of germs and provide up to 72-hour residual antimicrobial activity on surfaces when used as directed. The near-neutral pH, quaternary ammonium and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) based formula offers broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, viruses, fungi and mycobacteria, while remaining compatible with a wide range of healthcare surfaces and equipment. Each resealable flow-wrap pack contains 120 large wipes suitable for use in hospitals, clinics, aesthetic practices, care homes and food preparation areas.

Bnefits

  • Dual action: combines detergent and disinfectant in one wipe, cleaning and disinfecting in a single step.
  • Proven to kill at least 99.999% of germs, providing high-level antimicrobial performance compared with many standard surface wipes.
  • Broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, enveloped and many non-enveloped viruses, fungi and mycobacteria, including common healthcare-associated pathogens.
  • Up to 72-hour residual activity on surfaces, helping to maintain antimicrobial protection between routine cleaning cycles.
  • Alcohol-free, near-neutral pH formulation designed for excellent material compatibility and reduced risk of damage to sensitive surfaces compared with alcohol-based products.
  • Suitable for both general environmental surfaces and non-invasive medical devices, reducing the need for multiple different surface products.
  • Safe for use in food preparation and catering areas when used as directed, supporting infection control in multi-use environments.
  • Large wipe size provides good coverage of bigger surfaces and items, improving efficiency during cleaning.
  • Resealable pack helps keep wipes moist and ready to use while reducing evaporation and waste.
  • Widely used and trusted in healthcare settings and supported by extensive efficacy testing to European standards.

Indications

  • Routine cleaning and disinfection of non-invasive medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, monitors, drip stands, commodes (external surfaces), trolleys and infusion pumps, in line with local policies.
  • Environmental surface disinfection in clinical areas including bed rails, bedside tables, door handles, light switches, worktops, treatment couches and other frequently touched surfaces.
  • Use in aesthetic, dermatology and cosmetic clinics to clean and disinfect treatment couches, work surfaces, trolleys and non-invasive devices between clients.
  • Cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and equipment in food preparation and dining areas where an alcohol-free, food-area-compatible disinfectant is required.
  • Rapid decontamination of shared equipment and high-touch points during and between patient care episodes.
  • Part of routine daily cleans and enhanced cleaning regimes during outbreaks or periods of increased infection-prevention precautions.

Composition

  • Benzalkonium chloride (≤0.5% w/w) – quaternary ammonium compound biocide.
  • Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (≤0.5% w/w) – quaternary ammonium compound biocide.
  • Polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) (≤0.10% w/w) – polymeric biguanide biocide.
  • Water (>75% w/w) – main carrier for the formulation.
  • Non-ionic surfactants and detergents (each <1%) to aid soil removal and cleaning performance.
  • Fragrance (slight green tea perfume) and other minor formulation excipients (each <1%) for stability and product aesthetics.

Formulation

  • Ready-to-use, alcohol-free, water-based detergent and disinfectant solution impregnated onto non-woven wipes.
  • Patented mix of quaternary ammonium compounds and PHMB providing broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.
  • Near-neutral pH formulation designed for compatibility with a wide range of plastics, metals, rubbers and coatings used in healthcare equipment.
  • Low-level instrument grade disinfectant suitable for surfaces and non-invasive medical devices.

Packaging

  • Soft, resealable flow-wrap pack containing 120 large pre-moistened Clinell Universal wipes.
  • Green Clinell Universal branding with clear usage instructions, key claims (e.g. kills at least 99.999% of germs, 72-hour residual activity), batch number and expiry date printed on the pack.
  • Peel-back resealable label or plastic lid (depending on variant) to help prevent wipes from drying out.
  • Packs typically supplied individually or in outer cases for hospital and clinic supply chains.

Usage

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by local infection-prevention policies.
  • Open the resealable label or lid and remove one wipe, resealing the pack immediately afterwards to prevent remaining wipes from drying out.
  • If surfaces are heavily soiled, remove gross contamination first using a fresh wipe or other cleaning method, then use a new wipe for disinfection.
  • Wipe the surface or equipment thoroughly, working from clean to dirty areas and using an S-shaped motion, taking care not to go over the same area twice with a soiled section of the wipe.
  • Ensure the surface is completely wetted by the wipe and remains visibly wet for at least the minimum recommended contact time (typically 1 minute for full broad-spectrum claims; many bacteria are killed from 10 seconds, with specific viruses such as coronavirus in around 30–60 seconds according to the universal range data).
  • Allow the surface to air-dry; do not rinse unless explicitly required by the device manufacturer’s instructions or local policy.
  • Dispose of used wipes in accordance with local waste policies (e.g. clinical or domestic waste depending on area of use and contamination).
  • Use additional wipes if the first wipe becomes dry or visibly soiled before the entire surface is treated.
  • Do not flush wipes down toilets; dispose of in a suitable waste bin.
  • Do not use on skin or as a hand wipe; use dedicated skin or hand hygiene products instead.

Contraindications

  • Not intended for direct use on skin, mucous membranes or wounds.
  • Not suitable for sterilisation or high-level disinfection of invasive or critical medical devices that require dedicated high-level disinfection or sterilisation processes.
  • Avoid use on surfaces known to be incompatible with quaternary ammonium compounds or PHMB without prior compatibility testing.
  • Do not use in combination with other detergents or disinfectants, particularly anionic formulations or oxidising agents, which may reduce efficacy or cause adverse reactions.
  • Individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to quaternary ammonium compounds, PHMB, fragrances or other formulation components should avoid direct contact with the solution.

Adverse Effects

  • Generally well tolerated, but prolonged or repeated contact with the solution may cause mild skin dryness or irritation in some individuals.
  • Accidental eye contact with the eluate may cause transient irritation, redness or discomfort; rinse thoroughly with water if this occurs and seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
  • Ingestion of the solution from the wipe may cause irritation of the mouth, throat or gastrointestinal tract and should be treated as an exposure requiring medical advice.
  • Very rare allergic reactions (e.g. due to PHMB or quaternary ammonium compounds) may occur in sensitised individuals; discontinue exposure and seek medical advice if signs of allergy appear.
  • Spillage of large volumes of the solution into the environment may pose a risk to aquatic organisms due to the presence of quaternary ammonium compounds and PHMB.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • Do not allow packs to freeze; freezing may affect wipe and solution performance.
  • Keep the pack tightly closed or resealed when not in use to prevent wipes from drying out.
  • Avoid storing near strong oxidising agents or incompatible chemicals.
  • Protect packs from physical damage and contamination in storage areas.
  • Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.

Duration

Used for individual cleaning and disinfection episodes; there is no fixed treatment course. Surfaces and equipment should be re-cleaned and disinfected according to local infection-prevention schedules (e.g. between patients, after contamination and during routine daily/terminal cleans). Residual activity can last up to 72 hours, but does not replace the need for routine cleaning.

Onset

Rapid onset; antimicrobial action begins immediately on application. The Clinell Universal formulation is effective against many bacteria from around 10 seconds, with a broad range of pathogens (including key bacteria and viruses) typically inactivated within approximately 1 minute when the surface is kept wet for the full contact time.
