Universal detergent and disinfectant surface wipes
Description
Clinell Sanitising Wipes Refill (225) are universal detergent and disinfectant wipes designed for rapid cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and non-invasive medical devices. Using Clinell’s patented near-neutral pH formulation based on quaternary ammonium compounds and polymeric biguanide, they deliver broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity while maintaining excellent material compatibility. The wipes are supplied as a 225-wipe refill pack intended for use in compatible Clinell Universal buckets or dispensers and are widely used across UK healthcare, dental, and aesthetic settings.
Bnefits
- Single-step cleaning and disinfection (detergent plus disinfectant in one wipe)
- Kills at least 99.99% of pathogens from 10 seconds under standard test conditions
- Proven efficacy against norovirus within 1 minute (when used as directed)
- Demonstrated reduction in MRSA acquisition by approximately 55% in clinical use vs. conventional cleaning
- Broad spectrum activity: bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and tuberculocidal
- Patented near-neutral pH formulation for exceptional material compatibility
- Safe for use on a wide range of non-porous surfaces including plastics, rubbers and metals
- Designed for use on non-invasive medical devices as well as general environmental surfaces
- Ready-to-use wipes with no need for additional sprays or separate detergents
- Compatible with Clinell wall dispensers and bucket systems for convenient access at point of care
Indications
- Routine cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces in healthcare and clinic settings
- Decontamination of non-invasive medical devices between patients as per local protocol
- Use on high-touch surfaces such as bed rails, trolleys, worktops, door handles and equipment controls
- Infection prevention and control in hospitals, dental practices, GP surgeries and aesthetic clinics
- Rapid surface disinfection where access to sinks and traditional cleaning systems is limited
Composition
- Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), including benzalkonium chloride-type actives
- Didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) or equivalent QAC biocide (low-percentage active)
- Polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) / polymeric biguanide hydrochloride (low-percentage active)
- 2-Phenoxyethanol (preservative/antimicrobial co-biocide)
- Water
- Non-ionic surfactants and detergents
- Humectants and conditioning agents
- Fragrance (light green-tea style perfume)
- Non-woven wipe substrate
Formulation
- Pre-impregnated non-woven surface disinfectant and detergent wipe
- Cationic, quaternary ammonium and polymeric biguanide–based antimicrobial system
- Near-neutral pH (typically pH 5–8) for enhanced material compatibility
- Water-based, non-flammable formulation
Packaging
- Soft refill pack containing 225 pre-impregnated wipes
- Intended as a refill for compatible Clinell Universal buckets or dispensers
- Wipes typically approx. 20–28 cm in length (exact dimensions vary by batch/region)
- Resealable packaging to minimise drying out during use
Usage
- Wash or decontaminate hands and don appropriate personal protective equipment according to local protocol.
- Open the refill pack or bucket, remove a single wipe and reseal the pack or close the lid promptly to retain moisture.
- Wipe the surface or non-invasive medical device, ensuring complete coverage so that the surface is visibly wet.
- Use an S-shaped wiping motion, working from clean to dirty areas and from top to bottom to avoid recontamination.
- Ensure the manufacturer-recommended contact time is achieved (at least 10 seconds for general bactericidal activity; allow up to 1 minute for norovirus and 30 seconds for SARS-CoV-2 as per Universal-range evidence).
- Allow the surface to air dry; do not wipe dry with another cloth, as this can reduce efficacy.
- Dispose of the used wipe in accordance with local infection control and waste disposal policies.
- Use additional wipes if the surface becomes visibly soiled or if the wipe dries out during use.
- Do not flush wipes down toilets.
Contraindications
- Not for direct use on broken skin, wounds or mucous membranes.
- Not for use on invasive medical devices or devices that are incompatible with quaternary ammonium compounds and biguanides (refer to device manufacturer’s IFU).
- Avoid use on surfaces that are known to be sensitive to cationic surfactants without prior testing.
- Do not use in combination with anionic detergents/cleaners on the same surface at the same time, as this may reduce antimicrobial efficacy.
- Individuals with known hypersensitivity to quaternary ammonium compounds, PHMB, phenoxyethanol or fragrance components should avoid direct contact with the solution.
Adverse Effects
- May cause mild transient skin irritation with prolonged or repeated exposure in sensitive individuals.
- Eye contact with the impregnating solution may cause irritation; rinse cautiously with water if contact occurs.
- Rare risk of allergic contact dermatitis or sensitisation to PHMB, quaternary ammonium compounds or fragrance.
- Inhalation of vapour is not normally a concern under normal wipe use; however, avoid deliberate inhalation of mist or aerosolised solution.
- Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects if large volumes of solution enter watercourses (environmental hazard in bulk).
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep the pack or bucket tightly closed when not in use to prevent wipes from drying out.
- Do not allow to freeze.
- Store out of reach of children.
- Follow any additional storage instructions on the Clinell/GAMA Healthcare product label and safety data sheet.
Duration
Single use per cleaning or disinfection episode; use as frequently as required for routine and terminal decontamination according to local infection prevention policies.
Onset
From 10 seconds for bactericidal activity under standard test conditions; approximately 30 seconds for SARS-CoV-2 and up to 1 minute for norovirus in the broader Clinell Universal formulation evidence.
