Body fluid spill kit / surface disinfectant wipes
Description
Clinell Spill Wipes 40 x 40cm are a complete, single-use body fluid spill kit designed to deal quickly and safely with blood, vomit, urine and faecal spills on hard, non-porous surfaces. Each pack contains a super-absorbent pad that generates peracetic acid on contact with liquid, rapidly neutralising pathogens in the spill, plus two large detergent–disinfectant wipes to clean and disinfect the area afterwards. The pad can absorb up to approximately 350 ml of body fluid and uses patented oxidative technology based on peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide, providing broad-spectrum sporicidal and virucidal activity while avoiding the hazardous fumes associated with traditional chlorine-based spill kits.
Bnefits
- Complete, ready-to-use kit for body fluid spills, including absorbent pad and disinfectant wipes
- Super-absorbent peracetic acid–generating pad absorbs up to ~350 ml of body fluid spill in seconds
- Rapid broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, including spores, non-enveloped viruses and bacterial endospores
- Effective against key pathogens associated with body fluid spills, including Clostridioides difficile, norovirus and hepatitis B and C
- Faster and simpler than traditional chlorine granule spill kits, improving staff compliance and saving time
- Safe for use on spills containing urine, unlike chlorine-based products which can produce toxic gas when mixed with urine
- Uses pH-optimised oxidative technology that breaks down into non-harmful by-products (water, oxygen, acetic acid)
- Includes resealable bag so all used components (pad, wipes, PPE) can be disposed of safely in clinical waste
- Reduces the handling steps and products required, thereby helping to reduce the risk of pathogen transmission
- Conforms to relevant EN standards for bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and sporicidal activity under dirty conditions
Indications
- Rapid management of blood spills on hard, non-porous surfaces in healthcare settings
- Rapid management of urine spills on hard, non-porous surfaces in healthcare settings
- Rapid management of vomit and faecal spills on hard, non-porous surfaces
- Use in hospitals, clinics, operating departments, emergency departments and other clinical areas
- Use in outpatient, dental and aesthetic treatment rooms for safe handling of small body fluid spills
- Situations where a quick, easy alternative to traditional chlorine-based spill kits is required
Composition
- Absorbent pad (dry, white powder impregnated in non-woven pad)
- Sodium percarbonate (≤ 50% w/w in pad) – generates hydrogen peroxide and contributes to peracetic acid formation
- Citric acid (≤ 20% w/w in pad)
- Tetra acetyl ethylene diamine (TAED) (≤ 25% w/w in pad) – peracetic acid activator
- In situ–generated peracetic acid (on activation with liquid in the spill)
- In situ–generated hydrogen peroxide (on activation with liquid in the spill)
- In situ–generated acetic acid (on activation with liquid in the spill)
- Clinell Universal detergent–disinfectant wipes (2 large wipes included in the kit), containing:
- Benzalkonium chloride (≤ 0.3% w/w)
- 2-Phenoxyethanol (≤ 0.3% w/w)
- Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC) (≤ 0.3% w/w)
- Water, surfactants, humectants and other excipients in a non-woven wipe substrate
Formulation
- Single-use body fluid spill kit comprising:
- 1 x super-absorbent, peracetic acid–generating pad (dry, white powder within non-woven pad, 40 x 40 cm approx.)
- 2 x large Clinell Universal detergent–disinfectant wipes (moist non-woven wipes)
- One resealable outer bag used as a disposal bag after spill management
Packaging
- Individual, single-use pack (kit) containing 1 absorbent pad and 2 large detergent–disinfectant wipes
- Resealable bag designed to hold used pad, wipes and PPE for disposal via clinical waste stream
- Outer packaging labelled with instructions for use, safety information and product code (e.g. CSW1EU)
Usage
- Risk-assess the spill and don appropriate PPE according to local infection control policy (typically gloves, apron and eye protection for splashes).
- Open the Clinell Spill Wipes pack by tearing at the indicated point and remove the absorbent pad and disinfectant wipes.
- Place the absorbent pad over the body fluid spill with the active side (marked side A) facing down onto the spill and the plastic-backed side (B) facing up.
- Allow the pad to absorb the spill for approximately 30 seconds to enable full uptake of the fluid and activation of peracetic acid within the pad.
- Press down on the plastic-backed side (B) and move the pad gently over the surface so that the spill is completely absorbed and the contaminated area is fully contacted by the active side.
- Place the soiled absorbent pad back into the opened pack or resealable bag.
- Remove a Clinell Universal disinfectant wipe from the sachet and wipe the contaminated area using an ‘S-shaped’ motion from clean to dirty, ensuring full surface coverage.
- If needed, repeat wiping with the second disinfectant wipe to ensure thorough cleaning and disinfection, then place used wipes back into the pack or resealable bag.
- Seal the bag and dispose of the entire kit (pad, wipes, PPE) in the appropriate clinical/infectious waste stream; do not flush or macerate.
- Remove PPE and wash or decontaminate hands according to local hand hygiene protocol.
Contraindications
- Not intended for direct use on skin or mucous membranes.
- Not intended for ingestion or internal use.
- Do not use on contact lenses or for eye decontamination.
- Avoid use on delicate or incompatible materials that may be sensitive to oxidising agents (users should follow local compatibility guidance).
- Do not use on spills larger than the kit’s absorption capacity (approximately 350 ml); multiple kits may be required for larger spills.
- Not suitable for use on porous surfaces where full contact and recovery of the spill cannot be ensured, unless allowed by local protocol.
Adverse Effects
- Risk of serious eye damage if the activated pad contents or liquid come into contact with eyes.
- May cause irritation to the skin on prolonged or repeated contact with the activated solution.
- Inhalation of vapours in poorly ventilated areas may cause mild respiratory irritation; good ventilation is recommended.
- Contains quaternary ammonium compounds and other biocides that can be harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects if released in significant quantities into the environment.
- Individuals with known sensitivity to oxidising agents or quaternary ammonium compounds may experience irritation or allergic-type reactions.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- Keep sachets tightly closed and protect from moisture; do not store open sachets.
- Keep away from combustible materials and incompatible substances.
- Once activated by contact with liquid, the pad is intended for immediate use and the generated solution should not be stored.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Follow any additional storage instructions on the product label and safety data sheet.
Duration
Single-use treatment per spill episode; pad contact time typically around 30 seconds for absorption and peracetic acid generation, followed by wiping and final disinfection within a few minutes.
Onset
Begins acting immediately on contact with the spill; the absorbent pad soaks up fluid and generates peracetic acid within approximately 30 seconds, with rapid biocidal activity against microorganisms.
