Universal disinfectant surface wipes and non-invasive medical device wipes
Description
Clinell Universal Sanitising Wipes x 100 are pre-impregnated, near-neutral pH detergent and disinfectant wipes designed for single-step cleaning and high-level disinfection of surfaces and non-invasive medical devices. The patented formulation combines multiple biocides, including quaternary ammonium compounds and a polymeric biguanide, to deliver broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, killing at least 99.99% of germs within seconds and achieving 99.999% reduction under European standard test conditions. Suitable for use in healthcare, dental, aesthetic and other clinical environments, the wipes can also be used on hands for short contact and are dermatologically tested for tolerability.
Bnefits
- Combined detergent and disinfectant action in a single wipe for surfaces and non-invasive medical devices.
- Proven to kill at least 99.99% of germs from 10 seconds contact time and at least 99.999% under EN test conditions.
- Broad-spectrum efficacy against bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi and viruses including enveloped viruses such as coronaviruses, hepatitis B and C, HIV and influenza.
- Patented multi-biocidal formulation (two quaternary ammonium compounds plus a polymeric biguanide) reduces risk of microbial resistance.
- Near-neutral pH formulation designed for excellent material compatibility on a wide range of medical equipment and surfaces.
- Ready-to-use pre-saturated wipes in a convenient resealable tub, reducing preparation time and product wastage.
- 72-hour residual antimicrobial activity on surfaces (as claimed in manufacturer literature for Clinell Universal range).
- CE-marked medical device (class IIa) for cleaning and disinfection of non-invasive medical devices.
- Dermatologically tested and can be used on hands for short contact, supporting staff compliance in fast-paced environments.
- Suitable for use in healthcare, dental, aesthetic, tattoo and general clinical settings where rapid surface decontamination is required.
Indications
- Cleaning and disinfection of non-invasive medical devices such as blood pressure cuffs, ultrasound probes, stethoscopes, ECG leads, monitors and external surfaces of equipment.
- Cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces including beds, trolleys, couches, worktops, door handles, keyboards, chairs, lockers and other frequently touched areas.
- Routine decontamination of high-touch points in hospitals, clinics, dental practices, aesthetic/beauty clinics, care homes and other healthcare facilities.
- Rapid disinfection of surfaces between patients or procedures to reduce cross-contamination risk.
- Ad hoc hand decontamination when soap and water or dedicated hand rubs are not immediately available (short contact on intact skin only).
Composition
- Water: >75%
- Benzalkonium chloride: 0.45% (EC 270-325-2; CAS 68424-85-1)
- Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC): 0.40% (EC 230-525-2; CAS 7173-51-5)
- Polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB): 0.10% (CAS 27083-27-8)
- Additives (including humectants, surfactants, fragrance and buffering agents): each <1%
- Non-woven wipe substrate: polyester/viscose blend or similar medical-grade non-woven fabric, pre-impregnated with the above aqueous solution
Formulation
- Pre-impregnated non-woven wipes containing a water-based antimicrobial solution.
- Patented synergistic mix of two quaternary ammonium compounds (benzalkonium chloride and didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) with a polymeric biguanide (PHMB).
- Near-neutral pH (approximately 5–8) for material compatibility with common medical device surfaces.
- Slight green tea fragrance.
- Alcohol-free formulation (no high-level alcohol content as primary active).
Packaging
- Tub containing 100 pre-saturated universal sanitising wipes.
- Approximate wipe size: 20 cm x 25 cm (variously listed as 20 x 25 or 20 x 30 cm depending on distributor; tub-of-100 configuration is typically 20 x 25 cm).
- Flip-top resealable lid to minimise drying out and maintain wipe moisture.
- Colour-coded green Clinell Universal branding for easy identification in clinical settings.
Usage
- Ensure tub lid is properly closed when not in use to prevent wipes from drying out.
- Open the flip-top lid, peel back the inner seal if present, and pull out a single wipe from the centre of the roll.
- Wipe the surface or non-invasive medical device thoroughly, ensuring complete coverage and that the surface is visibly wet.
- Pay particular attention to high-touch areas, crevices and joints where soil and microorganisms may accumulate.
- Allow the surface to remain wet for at least the minimum contact time recommended on the product label (from 10 seconds for many bacteria; at least 60 seconds is typically recommended to achieve full virucidal activity, including against norovirus and coronaviruses).
- Allow the surface to air-dry; do not wipe dry with paper towels or cloths, as this can reduce efficacy.
- Use one wipe per small surface or device; take additional wipes as needed for larger areas or heavily soiled surfaces.
- For visibly soiled surfaces, use the wipe to remove organic matter and ensure the area is fully clean and wet with fresh solution.
- Dispose of used wipes in clinical or general waste according to local policy; do not flush down toilets.
- Close the tub lid firmly after each use to reduce evaporation and maintain product performance.
- For use on hands, wipe all surfaces of the hands and fingers thoroughly, ensuring full coverage, then allow to air-dry; do not use on broken or irritated skin.
- Always follow local infection-prevention policies and the manufacturer’s full instructions for use on the product label.
Contraindications
- Not intended for use on invasive medical devices or devices that enter sterile body spaces.
- Not intended for large-area or long-term application to skin, mucous membranes or broken/irritated skin.
- Avoid use on ocular surfaces or around the eyes.
- Avoid use on surfaces that are incompatible with quaternary ammonium compounds or biguanides (for example, some specialist optical or delicate materials) unless confirmed as compatible by the device manufacturer.
- Do not use in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to quaternary ammonium compounds, biguanides, fragrance components or any listed ingredients.
- Not for ingestion; keep out of reach of children.
Adverse Effects
- Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause mild irritation or dryness.
- May cause mild eye irritation in case of accidental contact with eyes.
- Rarely, allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity reactions to quaternary ammonium compounds, biguanides or fragrance components may occur.
- If significant irritation, redness or signs of allergic reaction develop, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- Do not allow the product to freeze.
- Keep the tub tightly closed when not in use to prevent wipes from drying out.
- Store in the original container and keep out of reach of children.
- Follow any additional storage guidance printed on the product label.
Duration
Single-use application per wipe; use as required for each cleaning/disinfection episode. No fixed treatment course duration \u2013 frequency is determined by local infection-prevention protocols and clinical need.
Onset
Antimicrobial activity begins within seconds; many organisms are killed from 10 seconds contact time, with full virucidal claims (including norovirus and coronaviruses) typically achieved within 30\u201360 seconds, depending on the specific pathogen and EN test conditions.
