Single-use dental cartridge syringe
Description
The Instrapac Dental Syringe 2.2 mm Steel Cartridge is a single-use, sterile, breech-loading dental cartridge syringe designed for administering local anaesthetic during dental and other minor procedures. Manufactured from high quality surgical stainless steel, it is compatible with 1.0 ml, 1.7 ml, 1.8 ml and 2.2 ml anaesthetic cartridges up to a maximum diameter of 9.0 mm and is suitable for use with imperial-thread needle types. Each syringe is supplied individually in an easy-to-open sterile pack, providing a convenient, lower-cost alternative to reprocessing reusable instruments while helping to protect patients against cross infection risks. The product is CE marked, fully compliant with the Medical Devices Directive and intended for professional use only.
Bnefits
- Single-use, sterile dental syringe minimises the risk of cross infection between patients.
- Compatible with standard 1.0 ml, 1.7 ml, 1.8 ml and 2.2 ml anaesthetic cartridges up to 9.0 mm in diameter, offering flexibility with commonly used dental cartridge sizes.
- High quality surgical stainless steel construction provides durability, precision and a familiar feel for clinicians.
- Breech-loading design allows straightforward loading and unloading of sealed anaesthetic cartridges.
- Suitable for imperial needle types, supporting compatibility with widely used dental needles.
- Lower-cost alternative to reprocessing reusable dental syringes, reducing decontamination workload and associated costs.
- Individually packed in easy-to-open sterile packaging for convenience and assured sterility at point of use.
- CE-marked and fully compliant with relevant Medical Devices Directive requirements for single-use instruments.
- Designed for professional dental and clinical environments where reliable local anaesthetic delivery is required.
Indications
- Administration of local anaesthetic during routine dental procedures (e.g. restorations, extractions, endodontic treatments).
- Use in minor oral surgery procedures where cartridge-based local anaesthetic is indicated.
- Administration of local anaesthetic in other suitable clinical settings that use standard dental cartridge syringes and imperial-thread dental needles.
- Situations where a sterile, single-use alternative to reusable dental syringes is preferred to reduce cross infection risk and reprocessing requirements.
Composition
- Instrument body and barrel: High quality surgical stainless steel (medical grade).
- Breech-loading mechanism compatible with dental anaesthetic cartridges (1.0 ml, 1.7 ml, 1.8 ml and 2.2 ml, up to 9.0 mm diameter).
- Handle and plunger assembly in stainless steel, designed for standard dental aspirating syringe operation.
- Needle fitting suitable for imperial-thread needle types (e.g. 40 TPI Whitworth form, per manufacturer catalogue).
- Supplied non-latex; cartridges and needles are not included and are selected separately by the clinician.
Formulation
- Single-use, sterile dental cartridge syringe device (no medicinal product contained).
- Breech-loading aspirating-style syringe for use with separate sealed cartridges of local anaesthetic solution.
- Intended for use with compatible imperial-thread dental needles and standard dental local anaesthetic cartridges.
- Delivered as a finished, ready-to-use sterile instrument requiring no assembly beyond attachment of cartridge and needle.
Packaging
- Each syringe is individually packed in an easy-to-open sterile pouch.
- Pouches are labelled with product description, brand (Instrapac), product code (7838), lot number, CE mark and expiry date.
- Units are supplied either singly or in multipack cartons (e.g. boxes of 20) depending on distributor configuration.
- Packaging is designed to maintain sterility until point of use and to be suitable for clinical storage and handling.
- Outer cartons include manufacturer details (Robinson Healthcare Ltd / Instrapac) and regulatory symbols for single use and sterility.
Usage
- For professional use only; use only by trained dental or healthcare professionals familiar with cartridge syringe anaesthesia techniques.
- Before opening, check the sterile pouch for damage or compromise; do not use if the packaging is damaged or if the expiry date has passed.
- Open the sterile pack aseptically and remove the syringe, avoiding contact with non-sterile surfaces at critical areas.
- Attach a compatible imperial-thread dental needle securely to the syringe in accordance with needle manufacturer instructions.
- Breech-load the appropriate local anaesthetic cartridge (1.0 ml, 1.7 ml, 1.8 ml or 2.2 ml, up to 9.0 mm diameter) into the syringe, following standard dental cartridge syringe loading technique.
- Expel air as per local protocol, check for free plunger movement and carry out aspiration and injection following accepted clinical practice and safety guidelines.
- After use, do not attempt to re-sterilise or reuse the syringe; carefully remove the needle into an approved sharps container and dispose of the syringe as clinical sharps waste in accordance with local regulations.
- Store unused syringes in their original packaging in a clean, dry area of the clinic until required.
Contraindications
- Not for reuse; re-use of this single-use device is contraindicated due to risk of cross infection, loss of sterility and potential mechanical failure.
- Do not use if the sterile pouch is damaged, opened or compromised, or if the product is past its expiry date.
- Not suitable for use with cartridges or needles that are incompatible with the syringe’s design (e.g. non-imperial thread needle hubs or non-standard cartridge dimensions).
- Not to be used by untrained personnel or for purposes other than administering injectable anaesthetic or compatible solutions.
- Use with caution in patients with known metal hypersensitivity if clinically relevant, following local policy and risk assessment.
Adverse Effects
- If sterility is compromised or the device is reused, there is an increased risk of infection transmission between patients.
- Improper technique in loading, needle attachment or injection may result in needle-stick injuries to staff or patients, extravasation, inadequate anaesthesia or tissue trauma.
- Mechanical failure (e.g. bending or damage from misuse) could lead to incomplete anaesthetic delivery or difficulty in aspirating or injecting.
- Use of incompatible cartridges or needles may result in leakage, poor fit or damage to components, compromising safety and effectiveness.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place at normal room temperature, away from direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat or moisture.
- Keep syringes in their original sterile packaging until required for use to maintain sterility.
- Do not expose the packaged instruments to chemicals or environments that may compromise packaging integrity or corrosion resistance.
- Observe the expiry date printed on the packaging and rotate stock accordingly; do not use expired instruments.
- Store out of reach of unauthorised persons and in accordance with clinic policies for sterile medical devices.
Duration
Not directly applicable to the device itself; each syringe is intended for single-patient, single-procedure use for the duration of one local anaesthetic administration session.
Onset
Not directly applicable to the device; onset and duration of anaesthesia depend on the specific local anaesthetic drug and technique used with the syringe.
