Clinical Waste Containers (Non-Sharps)
Description
The DISPOSApak 5L is a UN-type-approved, tough and durable clinical waste container designed for the safe collection, storage and transport of general clinical waste (excluding sharps). With a nominal 5 litre capacity and certified to UN3291 for clinical waste, it is suitable for use in hospitals, clinics, GP surgeries, dental and aesthetic practices where compliant disposal of soft and general clinical waste is required.
Bnefits
- UN type tested and certified in accordance with the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Chapter 9, for UN3291 Clinical Waste, Unspecified, NOS.
- Specifically designed for the safe collection and disposal of general clinical waste (excluding sharps), supporting compliant waste segregation.
- Tough, durable construction provides impact and puncture resistance during routine handling and transport.
- Quick and easy to close lid design to support safe handling and minimise risk of accidental spillage.
- Distinctive clinical-waste colour and labelling to support correct identification and segregation in line with local waste policies.
- 5 litre format offers a practical balance between capacity and portability for ward, clinic room or treatment room use.
- Can be supplied with absorbent HYDRI mats (manufacturer accessory) to help manage free liquids in clinical waste if required.
- Round container footprint with stable base to reduce risk of tipping in clinical environments.
Indications
- Collection and disposal of general clinical waste (soft clinical waste) in hospitals, clinics, GP practices, dental surgeries and aesthetic clinics.
- Short-term storage and transport of identifiable human tissue and other clinical waste destined for incineration, excluding sharps.
- Use in treatment rooms, minor-procedure rooms and community healthcare settings where compact clinical-waste containers are required.
- Applications where UN3291-compliant packaging is mandated for transport of clinical waste by road or other regulated means.
Composition
- Moulded plastic body (polypropylene or similar high-impact polymer) 5 L round container.
- Plastic lid assembly designed for secure interim and final closure, with mastic seals in lid moulding on 5 L size.
- Printed/labelled sides displaying UN markings, capacity, product code and clinical-waste hazard information.
Formulation
- Non-sterile, rigid clinical-waste container for single-use filling and subsequent disposal via licensed waste contractor.
- UN type-approved packaging suitable for UN3291 Clinical Waste, Unspecified, NOS.
- 5 litre nominal capacity with maximum tested fill weight of approximately 3 kg.
Packaging
- Individual unit capacity: 5 litres.
- Manufacturer pack: typically 20 containers per outer carton (product code CW06286, 5 L format).
- Approximate external dimensions: height 203 mm, width 234 mm, depth 234 mm.
- Medisave sales unit: single 5 L DISPOSApak container supplied at approximately £7.79 inc VAT (price subject to change).
Usage
- Assemble or open the container according to the printed instructions on the lid or label, ensuring the lid is correctly fitted for interim use.
- Place the DISPOSApak 5L in a stable, upright position in the designated clinical-waste area or near the point of waste generation.
- Deposit only appropriate general clinical waste (soft clinical waste and other non-sharp clinical items) into the container; do not dispose of sharps in this container.
- Do not exceed the indicated maximum fill line or tested fill weight (typically 3 kg for the 5 L size).
- When the container is approximately 2/3 full or reaches its fill line, apply the final closure mechanism on the lid until it is fully locked and cannot be reopened without obvious damage.
- Once sealed, inspect the container to ensure the lid is fully engaged and labelling is clearly visible.
- Arrange collection and disposal via an approved clinical-waste contractor in accordance with local and national regulations for UN3291 clinical waste.
- Do not attempt to reopen the container after final closure and do not reuse; the entire container and contents must be disposed of together.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for the disposal of sharps (needles, scalpels, lancets or other sharps items); dedicated sharps containers must be used instead.
- Not intended for the disposal of cytotoxic or cytostatic medicinal waste unless the container is specifically colour-coded and labelled for that purpose.
- Do not use for the storage or transport of free liquids without appropriate absorbent materials (e.g., HYDRI absorbent mats) as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not use if the container or lid is visibly cracked, deformed or otherwise damaged, or if the UN certification markings are illegible.
Adverse Effects
- Risk of leakage or spillage if the container is overfilled beyond the fill line or used above the tested fill weight.
- Injury risk if inappropriate waste (e.g., sharps) is placed into the container contrary to manufacturer guidance.
- Potential for odour or biohazard release if the lid is not properly closed before handling or transport.
- Non-compliance with transport regulations if used for waste types outside its UN3291 scope or if closure is not correctly applied.
Storage Conditions
- Store empty containers in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight and extremes of temperature to preserve plastic integrity.
- Keep away from sources of ignition and corrosive chemicals that may damage the container.
- Do not stack heavy objects on top of empty containers to avoid deformation of the body or lid.
- Filled and sealed containers should be stored in a secure clinical-waste holding area pending collection, in accordance with local waste-management policies and time limits.
Duration
Used continuously until the container reaches its designated fill line or weight limit (typically up to 3 kg) for a single filling cycle; intended for one-time use per container.
Onset
Provides compliant containment of clinical waste immediately once waste is placed inside and the lid is correctly fitted.
