Usage

- Follow current national, local and professional guidelines (e.g. ACE Group-style guidance) for recognition and management of anaphylaxis, vascular occlusion and other aesthetic complications.
- In suspected anaphylaxis, administer EpiPen according to current anaphylaxis protocols and the device’s official instructions, call emergency medical services immediately and monitor the patient continuously.
- Use hyaluronidase according to established filler complication protocols and within a valid prescription, reconstituting and dosing appropriately for the indication (e.g. vascular occlusion, nodules, Tyndall effect) and injection site.
- Administer aspirin, cetirizine, timolol eye drops and saline only when clinically indicated, following appropriate guidelines and contraindication checks.
- Use syringes and needles in an aseptic manner; do not reuse any single-use device.
- Document all emergency interventions, including medicine batch numbers, dosages and times, in the patient record and, where appropriate, report serious complications according to local governance and pharmacovigilance requirements.
- Regularly train and refresh the clinical team in the location and correct use of all kit components and run simulated emergency drills to maintain competence.
Contraindications
- Use of any medicine in the kit is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to that specific active substance or its excipients (e.g. epinephrine, hyaluronidase, aspirin, cetirizine, timolol).
- Aspirin is generally contraindicated in patients with aspirin or NSAID allergy, active peptic ulcer disease, bleeding disorders or in certain age groups/conditions as per medical guidance.
- Cetirizine and other antihistamines should be avoided or used with caution in patients with known allergy or specific contraindications outlined in the product literature.
- Timolol eye drops are contraindicated in patients with certain cardiac or respiratory conditions (e.g. significant bronchial asthma, severe COPD, certain heart blocks), unless specifically assessed and prescribed by an appropriate specialist.
- All medicines must be used within their licensed indications and with caution in pregnancy, breastfeeding or in patients with significant comorbidities, following prescriber judgement.
- The kit should not be used by untrained or non-qualified individuals; inappropriate use of emergency medicines carries significant risk.
Adverse Effects
- EpiPen (epinephrine) may cause palpitations, tachycardia, anxiety, tremor, headache, dizziness, pallor, sweating, nausea, vomiting and, rarely, serious cardiovascular events (e.g. arrhythmias, angina, hypertensive crisis), particularly in patients with underlying cardiac disease.
- Hyaluronidase injections may lead to local pain, swelling, bruising, erythema or, rarely, allergic reactions; excessive doses or incorrect placement may alter desired filler results beyond the target area.
- Aspirin can cause gastrointestinal irritation, dyspepsia, bleeding, bronchospasm in aspirin-sensitive individuals and allergic reactions.
- Cetirizine may cause drowsiness, dry mouth, headache or gastrointestinal symptoms in some patients.
- Timolol eye drops may produce local irritation, burning, redness, blurred vision or systemic beta-blocker effects (e.g. bradycardia, hypotension, bronchospasm) if systemically absorbed.
- Normal saline and saline eye wash are generally well tolerated but may cause transient discomfort or irritation when used for flushing.
- Needle and syringe use carries the usual risks of local trauma, bleeding, infection or vascular injury if not used correctly.
- Serious or unexpected adverse effects should be managed according to standard medical practice and reported via appropriate pharmacovigilance systems.
Storage Conditions
- Store the kit and its contents at the temperature ranges specified in each individual product’s summary of product characteristics; typically in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- Do not refrigerate or freeze EpiPen auto-injectors unless specifically indicated; avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures (e.g. hot cars, freezers).
- Keep all medicines in their original packaging until use to protect from light and contamination and to retain batch and expiry information.
- Regularly check expiry dates and solution appearance (e.g. epinephrine should remain clear and colourless; discard if discoloured or containing particulates).
- Store the kit in a clearly marked, easily accessible location, out of reach of unauthorised persons and children.
- Ensure sharps and unused/expired medicines are disposed of via approved clinical waste and sharps disposal routes in accordance with local regulations.
Duration
The kit is intended for immediate, short-term use during acute emergencies rather than continuous treatment. Individual medicines (e.g. EpiPen, hyaluronidase, aspirin, cetirizine, timolol) are administered episodically according to emergency protocols; the kit should be replenished promptly after any use and maintained in-date on an ongoing basis for as long as injectable aesthetic treatments are performed.
Onset
Onset of effect depends on the medicine used: epinephrine delivered via EpiPen typically acts within minutes to counteract anaphylaxis; hyaluronidase begins to break down hyaluronic acid filler shortly after injection; aspirin, cetirizine and timolol achieve their pharmacological effects over minutes to hours according to standard clinical expectations. All use should follow current evidence-based emergency guidelines.
