Enteral medication straw (ENFit)

Description

100 mm ENFit medication/medicine straw supplied as a pack of 100. The straw attaches to an ENFit (ISO 80369-3) enteral syringe to facilitate accurate, aseptic withdrawal and administration of enteral feeds or medicines. Available sterile or non-sterile depending on manufacturer; commonly used in hospitals, clinics and homecare to improve dose accuracy and reduce waste when drawing medicines into ENFit enteral syringes.

Bnefits

  • ENFit (ISO 80369-3) compatible connector reduces risk of misconnections with non-enteral lines
  • Facilitates accurate, aseptic withdrawal of medication or feeds into ENFit enteral syringes
  • Available in 100 mm length — useful for deeper containers or bottles
  • Pack sizes commonly available (e.g., 30, 100, 150) to suit clinical needs
  • Sterile and non-sterile options available from various manufacturers

Indications

  • Use with ENFit enteral syringes for drawing up enteral feeds or medicines and for administering enteral medications via enteral feeding systems.

Composition

  • Material: medical-grade polymer (commonly polyurethane (PU) or other medical plastics as specified by manufacturer).
  • Connector: male ENFit connector compliant with ISO 80369-3 (where stated).
  • Many manufacturers state DEHP-free and latex-free construction (check specific product datasheet).

Formulation

  • Single-use straw with male ENFit connector; 100 mm (4 inch) length; available sterile (EO sterilised) and non-sterile formats depending on manufacturer and pack.

Packaging

  • Pack of 100 (as listed on the Medisave product page).
  • Other manufacturers/suppliers may offer different pack sizes (e.g., 30/box, 150/box) and sterile individual pouches where specified.

Usage

  • Attach the male ENFit straw to a compatible ENFit enteral syringe.
  • Insert the straw into medication bottle or container; withdraw required volume into the ENFit syringe following local clinical procedures.
  • For sterile single-use products: open sterile packaging immediately before use; do not reuse.
  • Discard after single use into appropriate clinical waste if contaminated as per facility policy.

Contraindications

  • Not applicable as a medication; do not use with non-ENFit connectors or where incompatible with the patient's access devices.
  • Do not reuse single-use sterile straws.

Adverse Effects

  • Not applicable as a device accessory. General risks are misuse or accidental misconnection if non-ENFit parts are forced together (ENFit is specifically designed to prevent this).

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a dry, clean environment away from direct sunlight; keep sterile products in sealed packaging until use (follow manufacturer's storage instructions).
