Description

Gauze Swab Blue BP 10 x 10cm ST 5's 32 Ply - 8 x Packs of 15 are sterile, blue-dyed cotton gauze swabs manufactured to British Pharmacopoeia (BP) and EN 14079 standards. Each 10 x 10 cm swab is 32 ply, providing a soft, strong and highly absorbent dressing suitable for a wide range of non-invasive clinical procedures such as skin cleansing, wound padding and protection, and absorption of blood and exudate. The swabs are double wrapped to support aseptic opening and help minimise the risk of contamination. Intended for non-invasive use only.

Indications

  • Non-invasive wound care including cleaning, padding and protection of superficial wounds.
  • Absorption of blood and exudate during minor procedures and dressing changes.
  • Skin cleansing and preparation prior to injections, venepuncture and minor procedures (when used with appropriate solutions).
  • Use as a secondary dressing over primary wound contact layers.
  • General use in treatment rooms, theatres and outpatient clinics where sterile absorbent swabs are required.

Usage

  • Check the packaging for integrity and expiry date before use; do not use if the sterile pack is damaged or expired.
  • Open the outer and inner wraps using aseptic technique in accordance with local infection prevention policies.
  • Remove the required number of sterile swabs with sterile forceps or gloved hands.
  • Use for skin cleansing, absorption of blood or exudate, or as a padding/protective layer as clinically indicated.
  • Do not cut swabs in a way that generates loose threads that may be left in the wound.
  • For non-invasive external use only; do not use as an internal surgical swab or for packing deep cavities unless specifically indicated and X-ray detectability is confirmed.
  • Single use only: discard used swabs into appropriate clinical waste containers after use.
  • Do not resterilise or reuse.

Contraindications

  • Not for invasive or surgical use inside body cavities where X-ray detectable swabs are required.
  • Not suitable for patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to cotton or components of the dye (if such sensitivities are identified).
  • Do not use on severe or heavily bleeding wounds as the sole haemostatic measure without appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Do not use if sterile packaging is damaged, open or wet prior to use.
  • Not intended for long-term implantation or packing into deep wounds unless specifically directed under clinical protocol.

Adverse Effects

  • Local irritation or allergic reaction in patients sensitive to cotton fibres or dyes, presenting as redness, itching or rash.
  • If fibres or lint remain in the wound, there is a potential risk of foreign-body reaction or delayed healing.
  • Inadequate absorbency or delayed dressing changes may contribute to maceration of surrounding skin.
  • Use of non–X-ray-detectable swabs in situations requiring X-ray-detectable products may complicate swab counting if used outside their intended scope.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep in original packaging until point of use to maintain sterility and product integrity.
  • Protect from moisture, excessive heat and physical damage to the packs.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
  • Follow any additional storage instructions provided on the outer carton or by the manufacturer.

Duration

Used for the duration of a single procedure or dressing episode; replaced according to wound care protocol and clinical need.

Onset

Immediate \u2013 absorbency, padding and protective functions are provided as soon as the swab is applied.
