X-ray detectable sterile gauze swabs 15 x 10cm, 24 ply

Description

Gauze Swabs XRD - 15 x 10cm - Sterile - Box Of 100 are x-ray detectable (XRD) cotton gauze swabs from Rocialle, designed primarily for use in operating theatres and other procedural settings. Each swab measures 15 x 10 cm and is 24 ply, providing a soft, strong and highly absorbent pad suitable for absorbing fluids and packing or protecting tissues during surgery and invasive procedures. The swabs are double wrapped for aseptic opening, supplied sterile in packs of 5, and there are 100 swabs per box in total. As x-ray detectable swabs manufactured to BP/EN 14079 standards, they incorporate an x-ray visible thread within the gauze to support swab counting and detection protocols in theatre. They are single-use medical devices.

Bnefits

  • X-ray detectable gauze swabs (XRD) designed for use in operating theatres to support safe swab counting and detection.
  • 15 x 10 cm, 24 ply construction provides a balance of coverage, cushioning and absorbency for intra-operative use.
  • Manufactured from soft, strong cotton gauze to absorb blood and other fluids effectively while remaining low linting.
  • Incorporate an x-ray detectable thread within the gauze to enable localisation on radiographic imaging if required.
  • Manufactured to BP/EN 14079 standards to ensure consistent quality in absorbency, strength and construction.
  • Sterile, single-use medical devices supplied double wrapped to support aseptic presentation to the sterile field.
  • Packed in bundles of 5 swabs, simplifying counting and helping compliance with surgical swab accounting procedures.
  • Supplied in a box of 100 swabs, suitable for regular use in theatres, procedure rooms and high-throughput settings.
  • Latex-free construction reduces risk for patients and staff with latex sensitivity.

Indications

  • Intra-operative use for absorbing blood and other fluids during surgical procedures.
  • Packing and protecting tissues or cavities during surgery in line with local clinical protocols.
  • Use in operating theatres and invasive procedure rooms where x-ray detectable swabs are required for patient safety.
  • Situations where swab accountability and the ability to confirm swab absence via x-ray are part of standard practice.

Composition

  • 100% cotton gauze (type 13) base material.
  • Integrated x-ray detectable thread running through the swab to provide radiopacity.
  • 24 ply construction to increase bulk and absorbency.
  • Latex-free materials.

Formulation

  • Sterile Raytec-style x-ray detectable cotton gauze swab.
  • Dimensions: 15 x 10 cm.
  • Ply: 24 ply.
  • Colour: typically white gauze with an x-ray detectable filament/strip.
  • Supplied in bundles/packs of 5 swabs.
  • Single-use, sterile product.

Packaging

  • Box of 100 sterile x-ray detectable gauze swabs.
  • Swabs supplied in packs of 5 (20 inner sterile packs per box).
  • Each inner pack double wrapped (inner paper wrap and outer sterile pouch) to support aseptic opening and reduce contamination risk.
  • Packaging clearly marked with product code (RML122-150/BOX), lot number and expiry date.
  • Single-use and sterility information indicated on outer packaging.

Usage

  • Check outer and inner packaging before use; do not use if packaging is damaged, opened or past the expiry date.
  • Open the outer and inner wraps using aseptic technique in accordance with local theatre and infection-prevention policies.
  • Remove swabs using sterile technique and include them in the surgical swab count according to local standard operating procedures.
  • Use to absorb blood and other fluids, or to pack and protect tissues and cavities as clinically indicated during surgery.
  • Ensure that each swab’s x-ray detectable filament is intact and visible before use; do not cut swabs or remove the x-ray detectable element.
  • Maintain accurate swab counts throughout the procedure; follow local policy for swab reconciliation before closure and at the end of surgery.
  • After use, dispose of swabs as clinical waste in accordance with local regulations and theatre protocols.
  • Single use only: do not reprocess or reuse these swabs.

Contraindications

  • Not for reuse; reuse may compromise sterility and device integrity and increase infection risk.
  • Not intended for non-theatre surface dressing use where non–x-ray detectable gauze is recommended by local policy.
  • Use with caution in patients with known sensitivity to cotton or any component, discontinuing use if signs of hypersensitivity occur.
  • Do not use if sterile pack is damaged, wet, opened, or past the labelled expiry date.
  • Not intended for use outside the scope of intra-operative and invasive procedure wound management as defined in local protocols.

Adverse Effects

  • Rare risk of local irritation or hypersensitivity reactions in patients sensitive to cotton fibres or other components.
  • Risk of retained swab and associated complications if swab-counting procedures are not correctly followed.
  • Potential foreign-body reaction if a swab is unintentionally retained in a wound or cavity.
  • Re-use or use of non-sterile swabs may increase risk of infection.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep in original packaging until point of use to maintain sterility and product integrity.
  • Protect cartons from crushing, tearing or puncturing that could damage the inner sterile packs.
  • Do not expose to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

Duration

Intended for temporary intra-operative use during a single surgical or invasive procedure; all swabs must be removed and accounted for before wound or cavity closure.

Onset

Immediate \u2013 absorbent and x-ray detectable properties are present as soon as the sterile pack is opened and the swab is applied or placed.
