Single-use instant cold pack
Description
The HypaCool Instant Cold Pack, Standard (23 x 14cm) is a single-use, disposable cold therapy pack designed to provide instant, soothing cold treatment for larger areas of the body, such as legs, arms and the neck. Ideal for emergency pitch-side use, first aid kits and outdoor activities, the pack is activated by squeezing to rupture an internal pouch and trigger a cooling chemical reaction. It does not require pre-cooling in a freezer, making it ready for immediate use whenever and wherever cold therapy is needed to help relieve pain and reduce swelling following acute injuries.
Bnefits
- Provides instant, soothing cold therapy without the need for pre-chilling in a freezer.
- Standard size (23 x 14cm) is suitable for larger treatment areas such as legs, arms and neck.
- Helps relieve pain and reduce swelling in the acute phase of muscle and joint injuries.
- Ideal for emergency pitch-side use, in first aid kits, workplaces and outdoor activities.
- Single-use and easily disposable, avoiding the need for cleaning or re-freezing.
- Quick, easy and mess-free to use; activated simply by squeezing to rupture the inner pouch.
- Lightweight and portable, suitable for inclusion in sports, travel and workplace first aid kits.
Indications
- Immediate cold treatment of acute soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains and bruises.
- Relief of pain and reduction of swelling following knocks, bumps and contusions.
- Short-term cold therapy for muscle and joint injuries in sports and outdoor activities.
- Use as part of RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) protocols in first aid.
- Short-term relief of discomfort from minor burns (not open wounds) or insect stings, where cold therapy is appropriate and skin is intact.
Composition
- Outer robust plastic pouch (flexible polymer film).
- Inner water pouch (to be ruptured to start reaction).
- Solid cooling agent (typically urea or similar nitrate/salt-based compound) contained within the outer pouch.
- Mixture of water and cooling agent after activation producing an endothermic (cooling) solution.
- Non-toxic contents under normal conditions of use; not intended for ingestion or direct contact with eyes or mucous membranes.
Formulation
- Single-use, disposable chemical instant cold pack.
- Supplied at ambient temperature; activated by squeezing to rupture an internal water pouch.
- Endothermic reaction between water and cooling agent produces rapid cooling effect.
- Designed to be applied externally with a suitable barrier (towel, sleeve, cover) between pack and skin to prevent cold injury.
- Non-reusable; remains cool for a limited duration before returning to ambient temperature.
Packaging
- Single standard-size instant cold pack per unit.
- Pack dimensions: approximately 23cm x 14cm.
- Approximate weight: 200g.
- Sealed flexible pouch with printed instructions and safety information.
- Supplied individually and/or in multipacks for inclusion in first aid kits and sports medical bags.
Usage
- Check the outer pouch for any damage before use; do not use if leaking or punctured.
- Locate the inner liquid pouch inside the pack and squeeze firmly to rupture it, triggering the cooling chemical reaction.
- Shake the pack briefly to mix the contents thoroughly and distribute the cooling effect evenly.
- Place a suitable barrier such as a therapy cover, thin towel, sleeve or compression cuff between the cold pack and the skin to reduce the risk of frostbite or cold burns.
- Apply the cold pack to the injured area for up to 15–20 minutes at a time, or as advised by a healthcare professional.
- Monitor the skin regularly during use; discontinue or remove the pack if excessive redness, pain, numbness or discomfort occurs.
- After use, dispose of the pack in household or standard clinical waste, taking care not to tear or puncture it.
- If the pack becomes ruptured, avoid direct contact with contents; if skin contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water.
- Keep out of reach of children and use under adult supervision, especially in sports and school settings.
- Always seek medical advice for serious injuries, suspected fractures or if symptoms persist.
Contraindications
- Do not apply directly to broken or compromised skin (open wounds, severe abrasions) without a suitable dressing and professional guidance.
- Not recommended for individuals with impaired circulation, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes-related neuropathy or reduced skin sensation on the treatment area unless advised by a clinician.
- Avoid prolonged continuous use or excessive cold exposure that may increase the risk of frostbite or cold burns.
- Do not use on infants or very young children without medical advice and careful supervision.
- Do not ingest contents or apply to eyes, mouth or mucous membranes.
Adverse Effects
- Potential for cold burns or frostbite if applied directly to the skin without a protective barrier or left in place for excessive periods.
- Temporary numbness, tingling or discomfort at the application site which usually resolves after removal.
- Very rare risk of skin irritation or allergic-type reaction to pack materials or contents if the pack is punctured.
- If any severe pain, persistent redness, blistering or other adverse skin reactions occur, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- Do not freeze; the pack is designed to be stored at ambient temperature and activated only when needed.
- Avoid crushing, piercing or excessively bending the pack during storage to prevent accidental activation or damage.
- Keep out of the reach of children when not in supervised use.
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
Duration
Typical application time is approximately 15\u201320 minutes per treatment session during the acute phase of injury. The pack is single-use and is discarded after one period of use; multiple packs may be used over the first 24\u201348 hours post-injury according to standard cold therapy guidance and professional advice.
Onset
Cooling effect begins within seconds of activating and shaking the pack, reaching effective cold therapy temperature within a short time and gradually warming back towards ambient temperature over the course of use.
