Reusable hot/cold gel pack
Description
The HypaGel Hot/Cold Therapy Pack, Standard (24 x 13cm) is a reusable gel-filled pack designed to provide cost-effective hot or cold therapy for muscles and joints. It can be cooled in a refrigerator or freezer for cold therapy, or heated in a microwave for heat therapy, making it suitable for a wide range of acute and chronic injuries. The pack features a durable, burst- and puncture-resistant construction and a soft gel that remains flexible when cold, allowing it to conform closely to the body. It must always be used with a suitable cover, sleeve, compression cuff or other barrier between the pack and the skin to help prevent burns or frostbite.
Bnefits
- Provides both hot and cold therapy in a single reusable pack.
- Reusable gel-filled construction offers a cost-effective alternative to single-use cold packs.
- Durable, burst- and puncture-resistant outer material designed for repeated use.
- Soft gel remains flexible when cooled, helping the pack conform to curves and joints.
- Can be stored in a refrigerator or freezer for cold therapy applications.
- Microwavable for convenient heat therapy when required.
- Standard size (approximately 24 x 13cm) is suitable for a wide variety of body areas, including knees, elbows, ankles and forearms.
- Ideal for inclusion in first aid kits, sports medicine kits and workplace health & safety equipment.
- Quick, simple and mess-free to use when combined with an appropriate sleeve or cover.

- Heat therapy for chronic muscle pain, stiffness, tension and joint discomfort where heat is indicated.
- Management of inflammation and overuse injuries in sports and occupational settings.
- Supportive treatment alongside rest, compression and elevation (RICE/PRICE protocols) as advised by a healthcare professional.
- General first aid use for minor musculoskeletal injuries at home, in the workplace, at school or during sports and outdoor activities.

- Reusable, non-sterile hot/cold gel pack for external use.
- Gel remains soft and pliable when cooled to typical refrigerator or freezer temperatures.
- Can be heated in a microwave according to manufacturer’s heating guidance to provide moist-style heat therapy.
- Designed for use with an external barrier such as a therapy cover, sleeve, compression cuff or thin towel to protect the skin from extreme temperatures.

Packaging
- Single standard-size HypaGel Hot/Cold Therapy Pack per unit.
- Pack dimensions: approximately 24cm x 13cm.
- Supplied in printed packaging or sleeve with usage instructions and safety warnings.
- Often supplied individually or in multi-unit orders for first aid rooms, sports clubs and workplaces.
Usage
- For external use only.
- Always place a suitable barrier (e.g. therapy cover/sleeve, compression cuff, thin towel or dressing) between the pack and the skin to prevent thermal injury.
- For cold therapy: place the pack in a refrigerator or freezer until the desired level of cold is achieved. Do not apply straight from a deep freeze without a protective barrier.
- For heat therapy: heat the pack in a microwave strictly following the manufacturer’s recommended time and power settings, checking the pack frequently to avoid overheating.
- Before application, check the temperature of the pack with your hand to ensure it is comfortably warm or cold and not extreme.
- Apply to the affected area for approximately 15–20 minutes at a time, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
- Allow the skin to return to normal temperature between treatments; repeat several times per day as needed during the acute or recovery phase.
- Inspect the pack before each use; do not use if the pack shows signs of leakage, damage or excessive wear.
- If the pack becomes punctured or leaks, discontinue use immediately and dispose of it safely; avoid direct contact with the gel contents.
- Seek medical advice for serious injuries, suspected fractures or if pain or swelling persists or worsens.
Contraindications
- Do not apply directly to broken or compromised skin (open wounds, severe abrasions or infected areas) without appropriate dressings and professional guidance.
- Use with caution, and only under medical advice, in individuals with impaired circulation, diabetes-related neuropathy, Raynaud’s phenomenon or other conditions that affect sensation or vascular supply.
- Avoid prolonged or excessive exposure that may result in cold injury (frostbite) or heat burns.
- Not recommended for use on very young children or individuals unable to reliably report discomfort without close supervision.
- Do not use if allergic or sensitive to any component of the pack’s materials if leakage occurs and skin contact with gel is possible.
Adverse Effects
- Potential for cold burns or frostbite if used without an adequate barrier or left in place for too long.
- Potential for heat burns if overheated in a microwave or applied too hot without appropriate protection.
- Temporary numbness, tingling or redness at the site of application, which usually resolves after removal.
- Skin irritation or a mild contact reaction if the outer material or leaked gel comes into prolonged contact with sensitive skin.
- If blistering, severe pain, marked redness or other significant reactions occur, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not being used for cold therapy.
- For cold therapy readiness, the pack may be stored in a refrigerator; for short-term deep-freeze use, follow manufacturer guidance and do not allow the pack to be crushed or pierced.
- Do not store the pack near sharp objects or heavy items that may puncture or damage it.
- Do not expose the pack to open flames, radiators or other extreme heat sources outside of controlled microwave heating as per instructions.
- Keep out of the reach of children when not in supervised use.
- Inspect periodically for signs of wear or damage and replace if the pack is leaking, discoloured or heavily worn.
Duration
Typically applied for 15–20 minutes per session, with sessions repeated periodically (e.g. every 2–3 hours during the initial 24–48 hours for cold therapy, or as advised by a healthcare professional for ongoing hot or cold therapy). The pack itself is reusable over many treatment cycles until it becomes damaged or worn.
Onset
Cooling or warming effect is achieved within minutes of application, with symptomatic relief of pain and reduction in swelling or muscle tension typically felt during and shortly after each treatment session.
