Self-Adhesive Surgical Dressing

Description

Mepore is a sterile, self-adhesive and absorbent surgical dressing designed for managing low to moderately exuding wounds, including surgical incisions, cuts, abrasions and minor burns. The 6cm x 7cm dressing consists of a soft, non-woven, spunlace polyester backing combined with an absorbent wound pad featuring a low-adherent contact layer. A skin-friendly, water-based, solvent-free polyacrylate adhesive provides gentle yet secure fixation, and a two-part release film allows easy, aseptic application. The dressing is breathable to enhance patient comfort and help prevent maceration, while the low-adherent pad supports comfortable wear and atraumatic removal. This pack contains 60 individually wrapped, sterile dressings, manufactured in the European Community (EC) and supplied by Two Face Aesthetics in the UK.

Bnefits

  • Sterile, self-adhesive and absorbent dressing for low to moderately exuding wounds such as surgical wounds, cuts, abrasions and minor burns.
  • Soft non-woven spunlace polyester backing with high breathability helps enhance patient comfort and reduce the risk of maceration.
  • Skin-friendly, water-based, solvent-free polyacrylate adhesive provides gentle and secure fixation, suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Absorbent wound pad with a low-adherent contact layer minimises trauma and pain on removal while maintaining a moist wound environment.
  • Two-part release film design allows easy, aseptic application and accurate positioning of the dressing.
  • Conforms well to body contours, making it suitable for use on a variety of anatomical sites.
  • Individually wrapped, sterile dressings support infection control and convenient single-use application.
  • Origin from the European Community (EC), produced under established medical device manufacturing standards.
  • Box of 60 dressings offers cost-effective supply for clinics, practices and aesthetics providers with regular post-procedure dressing needs.

Indications

  • Primary dressing for low to moderately exuding wounds such as surgical incisions, post-operative wounds and sutured wounds.
  • Management of minor cuts, abrasions, lacerations and superficial traumatic wounds.
  • Suitable dressing for minor burns and other low to moderately exuding superficial wounds where an absorbent, low-adherent pad is indicated.
  • Commonly used as a post-treatment dressing in aesthetics and dermatology procedures (e.g. after minor skin surgery, lesion removal, or similar interventions).
  • Appropriate for use in hospitals, clinics, GP practices, community care, outpatient settings and professional aesthetics clinics.
  • Not intended for highly exuding, heavily contaminated, infected or deep cavity wounds without appropriate additional clinical management.

Composition

  • Breathable backing: soft non-woven spunlace polyester fabric.
  • Adhesive: skin-friendly, water-based, solvent-free polyacrylate adhesive applied to the border and backing.
  • Wound pad: absorbent pad composed of viscose and/or polyolefin-based fibres designed to absorb low to moderate exudate.
  • Wound contact layer: low-adherent layer integrated into the pad to reduce adherence to the wound bed and enable atraumatic removal.
  • Release liner: two overlapping release films covering the adhesive surface to allow aseptic, controlled application.
  • Sterility: individually wrapped, sterile dressings.
  • Size: 6cm x 7cm (overall dressing size; wound pad slightly smaller than total dimensions).

Formulation

  • Conventional self-adhesive island dressing combining an absorbent central pad with an adhesive border.
  • Outer layer formulated as a non-woven, breathable polyester backing to provide physical protection while allowing moisture vapour transmission.
  • Absorbent pad formulated to manage low to moderate levels of wound exudate and maintain an optimal moist healing environment.
  • Low-adherent contact surface designed to limit adherence to the wound bed and help minimise pain and tissue disruption at dressing change.
  • Water-based polyacrylate adhesive selected for skin-friendliness and secure fixation without organic solvents.
  • Two-part release liner system formulated to enable accurate, aseptic placement over the wound with minimal handling of the adhesive surface.

Packaging

  • 60 x individually wrapped, sterile Mepore adhesive surgical dressings per box.
  • Each dressing is sealed in an individual peel-open sterile pack for single use.
  • Outer carton clearly labelled with product name, size (6cm x 7cm), quantity (60), brand (Mepore), and manufacturer details.
  • Packaging indicates origin from the European Community (EC) and includes relevant symbols for sterility, single-use and expiry.
  • Supplied to the end user by Two Face Aesthetics from their UK facility in Rochdale.

Usage

  • Cleanse the wound in accordance with local clinical protocols and ensure haemostasis is achieved before dressing application.
  • Gently dry the surrounding skin thoroughly; avoid leaving excess moisture, creams, gels or ointments on the skin where the adhesive will be placed.
  • Open the sterile pouch and remove the Mepore dressing using aseptic technique, taking care not to touch the absorbent pad or adhesive surface unnecessarily.
  • Grip both parts of the two-part release film and begin to remove one section to expose part of the adhesive surface.
  • Position the absorbent pad centrally over the wound and fix the first exposed adhesive portion to the surrounding skin.
  • Remove the remaining release film while smoothing the dressing onto the skin, ensuring it is applied flat without creases and that the adhesive border adheres fully.
  • Do not stretch the dressing during application, as this can lead to tension, discomfort or skin damage.
  • Inspect the dressing regularly; change the dressing in line with clinical judgment, local guidelines, or when exudate reaches near the edge of the pad.
  • To remove, gently lift one corner of the dressing and slowly peel it back along the skin while supporting the surrounding tissue to reduce discomfort.
  • Single use only; do not re-sterilise or reuse. Dispose of used dressings in accordance with local clinical waste policies.

Contraindications

  • Do not use on patients with a known sensitivity or allergy to acrylic/polyacrylate adhesives, polyester, viscose or any of the dressing components.
  • Not suitable for highly exuding wounds, heavily bleeding wounds or deep cavity wounds without appropriate additional management.
  • Do not apply to clinically infected wounds unless under the direction and supervision of a healthcare professional using an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Do not use as a primary dressing on full-thickness burns or on exposed bone, tendon or muscle unless specifically directed by a clinician.
  • Do not reuse; reuse of single-use sterile dressings may increase the risk of infection or compromised performance.

Adverse Effects

  • Possible local skin reactions including erythema, itching, rash, irritation or maceration, particularly in patients with sensitive or fragile skin.
  • Rarely, allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity reactions to the adhesive or other components of the dressing.
  • Inadequate monitoring or infrequent dressing changes may contribute to maceration of the peri-wound skin if exudate accumulates excessively.
  • Trauma to the skin or wound bed may occur if the dressing is removed without appropriate care or if exudate has dried and bonded to the pad.
  • If any signs of infection (increased pain, redness, swelling, warmth, odour or unusual exudate) or significant skin reaction occur, dressing use should be reviewed by a healthcare professional.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • Keep in the original packaging until use to maintain sterility and protect from physical damage and contamination.
  • Avoid exposure to excessive moisture or humidity which may compromise the packaging or sterility.
  • Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
  • Do not use if the individual sterile pouch is opened, damaged or compromised prior to use.

Duration

Varies according to wound type, exudate level and clinical assessment; dressing wear time is typically up to several days for low to moderately exuding wounds, with changes performed as required by local protocols or when exudate approaches the edge of the pad.

Onset

Immediate mechanical effect upon application: provides absorption, protection and secure coverage of the wound as soon as the dressing is applied correctly.
