Single-use capillary blood lancets

Description

Microdot Plus Lancets 33G are sterile, single-use capillary blood lancets designed for use with compatible lancing devices, including those supplied in the Microdot+ and Microdot Max blood glucose monitor starter kits. Each box contains 100 ultra-fine 33-gauge lancets intended to provide a gentler puncture and improved comfort while still delivering an adequate capillary blood sample for blood glucose and other point-of-care tests. The lancets are suitable for routine self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) and professional testing in clinical settings, and are listed as a prescribable device in the UK with SKU 405-4979. Microdot is a trading brand of Cambridge Sensors Ltd, a UK-based manufacturer of diabetic equipment and safety sharps whose devices are CE marked and registered with the UK MHRA.

Bnefits

  • Ultra-thin 33G needle helps reduce puncture pain and improves comfort, especially for frequent testers.
  • Designed as single-use sterile lancets to support infection control and minimise cross-contamination.
  • Compatible with Microdot+ and Microdot Max lancing devices and with most popular universal lancing devices, providing flexibility in home and clinical use.
  • Fine-gauge design is optimised to obtain sufficient capillary blood for accurate blood glucose measurement while limiting tissue trauma.
  • Supplied in boxes of 100, providing a practical and cost-effective option for ongoing diabetes management.
  • Manufactured under a CE-marked, MHRA-registered medical device quality system via Cambridge Sensors Ltd.

Indications

  • Capillary blood sampling for self-monitoring of blood glucose in people with diabetes.
  • Capillary blood collection for other point-of-care tests that require a fingertip (or alternate site) blood drop and are compatible with 33G lancets.
  • Use in primary care, community clinics and secondary care as part of routine diabetes monitoring protocols.
  • Home monitoring of blood glucose levels when used with Microdot blood glucose meters or other compatible systems, under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Composition

  • Needle: medical-grade stainless steel.
  • Gauge: 33G (approximately 0.20 mm diameter).
  • Tip: precision-ground, multi-facet (tri-bevel) needle tip designed to optimise penetration and comfort.
  • Lancet body: moulded plastic housing designed to fit compatible lancing devices.
  • Protective cap: plastic cap to maintain sterility prior to use.
  • Supplied sterile, single-use, non-pyrogenic and latex-free (per typical modern lancet specifications).

Formulation

  • Medical device only; contains no medicinal or pharmacologically active ingredients.
  • Single-use sterile lancets designed for use with a separate, spring-loaded lancing device.
  • Optimised for capillary blood sampling from fingertips or other approved lancing sites.

Packaging

  • Outer carton containing 100 individual Microdot Plus 33G lancets.
  • Each lancet supplied with its own protective cap to preserve sterility until use.
  • Carton printed with product name (Microdot Plus Lancets 33G), quantity (Box of 100), brand (Microdot), SKU/PIP code (405-4979) and regulatory markings, including CE mark.
  • Intended for dispensing by pharmacies and stocking in clinical settings, as well as direct supply via medical distributors.

Usage

  • For single use only; always use a new sterile lancet for each blood test.
  • Insert the lancet into a compatible lancing device (e.g. Microdot+ or Microdot Max device) following the device manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Twist off or remove the protective cap to expose the needle while it remains within the lancing device.
  • Adjust the lancing device depth setting based on skin thickness and comfort requirements, as advised by a healthcare professional.
  • Place the lancing device firmly against the chosen sampling site (commonly the side of a fingertip or another approved site) and activate the device to produce a small skin puncture.
  • Gently massage or squeeze the site if necessary to obtain an adequate blood drop for the test strip or sampling device.
  • After use, carefully remove the lancet from the lancing device and dispose of it immediately into an approved sharps container; do not attempt to recap or reuse.
  • Follow local guidelines for testing frequency, rotation of sampling sites and sharps disposal, and seek training from a healthcare professional on proper technique.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if the outer carton or individual lancets appear damaged, opened or contaminated.
  • Not suitable for venous or arterial sampling; intended only for capillary blood sampling.
  • Do not reuse lancets; reuse increases the risk of infection, blunting of the needle, pain and potentially inaccurate sampling.
  • Use with caution or consider alternative devices in patients with known hypersensitivity to stainless steel or other lancet materials.
  • Professional guidance is required when lancing patients with bleeding disorders, on anticoagulant therapy or with significantly impaired peripheral circulation.

Adverse Effects

  • Mild, transient pain or stinging at the puncture site.
  • Localised redness, small bruising or haematoma at the sampling site.
  • Rare risk of local infection if the skin is not adequately cleaned or if aftercare is poor.
  • Repeated lancing in the same area over time may contribute to callus formation or local skin thickening.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a clean, dry location at room temperature.
  • Protect from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Keep in the original carton until use to protect lancets and preserve labelling information.
  • Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the packaging.
  • Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised users.
