Description

Milton Sterilising Tablets (Pack of 28) are cold-water disinfectant tablets developed for sterilising baby bottles, breastfeeding equipment and baby feeding accessories. Each 4 g effervescent tablet, dissolved in 5 litres of clean cold water, creates a sterilising solution that kills 99.9% of germs, including bacteria, fungi and viruses, in just 15 minutes. The solution remains active for up to 24 hours, allowing items to be re-immersed throughout the day. The tablets are suitable for use at home, when travelling or for overnight stays and can be used to sterilise breast pump parts, bottles, teats, soothers, teething rings, small plastic toys, plastic cutlery and weaning bowls.

Composition

  • Each tablet: approximately 4 g.
  • Active ingredient: Troclosene Sodium (Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate; CAS 2893-78-9) approx. 19.5% w/w (provides available chlorine in solution).
  • Other components: inorganic salts such as sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate and excipients to aid effervescence and dissolution (exact proportions proprietary).
  • When dissolved at 1 tablet in 5 litres water, produces a dilute aqueous chlorine-releasing solution suitable for cold-water sterilisation.

Formulation

Usage

  • Clean items thoroughly after each use: wash bottles, teats, breast pump parts and accessories in warm soapy water, then rinse with clean cold water.
  • Prepare the sterilising solution by filling a suitable plastic container or Milton sterilising unit with 5 litres of clean cold water.
  • Add 1 Milton sterilising tablet to the 5 litres of water and allow it to dissolve completely to form the sterilising solution.
  • Completely immerse the cleaned items in the solution, ensuring no air bubbles are trapped inside bottles, teats or hollow components.
  • Leave the items immersed for at least 15 minutes to achieve effective sterilisation.
  • Items can remain in the solution until needed, for up to 24 hours; after this time, discard the solution and prepare a fresh one.
  • When removing items, wash hands thoroughly, drain off excess solution and follow the latest on-pack instructions regarding rinsing (some labels advise no need to rinse, others recommend rinsing with drinking water).
  • Renew the solution every 24 hours or sooner if it becomes visibly contaminated.
  • Do not mix the solution or tablets with other cleaning agents or detergents.
  • Always follow the safety advice on the product label, including keeping tablets and solution out of the reach of children and using in a well-ventilated area.

Contraindications

  • Do not use for sterilising items made of materials that are not compatible with chlorine-based disinfectants (e.g. certain metals, natural rubber or delicate fabrics) unless confirmed safe by the manufacturer.
  • Not for direct application to skin or ingestion; tablets and solution are intended only for sterilising objects.
  • Do not mix with other cleaning products, acids or detergents, as this may release hazardous gases or reduce efficacy.
  • Individuals with known sensitivity to chlorine-releasing agents or troclosene sodium should avoid direct handling of undissolved tablets or concentrated solution.
  • Avoid use on items where residual chlorine solution is specifically contraindicated by the item manufacturer.

Adverse Effects

  • Contact with eyes may cause irritation; splashes should be rinsed immediately with plenty of clean water and medical advice sought if irritation persists.
  • Prolonged skin contact with the concentrated solution may cause irritation or dryness in some individuals.
  • If swallowed, the product can be harmful and may cause irritation to the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract; medical advice should be sought immediately and the product packaging shown.
  • Spillage of concentrated solution onto fabrics or surfaces may cause bleaching or discoloration.

Storage Conditions

  • Store tablets in their original, tightly closed packaging in a cool, dry place.
  • Keep away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight.
  • Store out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
  • Keep tablets away from acids and incompatible chemicals.
  • Do not use after the expiry date shown on the pack.
  • Prepared solution should be kept covered and used within 24 hours, then discarded and replaced.
