Blood Collection Luer Adapter

Description

The Multi-adapter - Luer for S-Monovette is a sterile, single-use connection adapter designed by Sarstedt for the S-Monovette blood collection system. With a standard Luer connection and a compact 37 mm translucent PET body, it enables safe, low-dead-space connection between S-Monovette tubes and a wide range of Luer-based devices such as venous cannulas, butterfly needles and three-way stopcocks. Each adapter is individually blister-packed and supplied in boxes of 100 pieces for routine clinical and laboratory use.

Bnefits

  • Provides a universal Luer interface for the S-Monovette blood collection system, ensuring compatibility with standard Luer-based devices.
  • Enables safe, closed blood collection from venous cannulas, butterfly sets and three-way stopcocks without changing the collection system.
  • Sterile and non-pyrogenic/endotoxin-free, supporting safe and hygienic blood sampling.
  • Single-use, individually blister-packed design helps maintain sterility until the point of use.
  • Translucent PET construction allows visual inspection of the adapter and fluid path.
  • Short 37 mm length minimises dead volume while maintaining good handling characteristics.
  • Designed specifically for S-Monovette, providing a secure fit and reliable performance within the system.
  • Supplied in boxes of 100 adapters, suitable for high-throughput hospital, clinic and laboratory environments.

Indications

  • Use as a connection adapter between S-Monovette blood collection tubes and medical devices with a standard Luer connection.
  • Venous blood collection via Luer-compatible devices such as venous indwelling cannulas, butterfly needles and three-way stopcocks.
  • Routine venous blood sampling in hospitals, outpatient clinics, general practice surgeries, laboratories and veterinary practices using the S-Monovette system.
  • Situations where a sterile, single-use Luer adapter is required to connect S-Monovette to existing Luer-based access devices.

Composition

  • Product material: polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
  • Colour: translucent.
  • Design: Luer adapter with Luer connection, suitable for S-Monovette blood collection tubes.
  • Sterility: sterile, non-pyrogenic/endotoxin-free (gamma-irradiated).
  • Latex-free plastic construction (no natural rubber latex).

Formulation

  • Medical device type: in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) accessory for venous blood collection.
  • Design: Luer; suitable for S-Monovette; connection: Luer.
  • Length of product: 37 mm.
  • Translucent PET body providing a rigid, low-dead-space connector.

  • Packaging maintains sterility until opening and is suitable for use in clinical and laboratory environments.

Usage

  • Use only by trained healthcare or laboratory professionals familiar with venous blood collection and the S-Monovette system.
  • Before use, inspect the blister and adapter; do not use if the blister is damaged, opened or if the adapter is cracked, deformed or contaminated.
  • Open the blister immediately before use, maintaining aseptic technique to prevent contamination of the Luer surfaces.
  • Attach the Multi-adapter firmly to the S-Monovette in accordance with the S-Monovette instructions for use, ensuring a secure Luer connection.
  • Connect the Luer end of the adapter to the corresponding Luer fitting on the access device (e.g. venous cannula, butterfly set or three-way stopcock) using standard Luer technique.
  • Perform venous blood collection according to institutional protocols and the S-Monovette user guide, avoiding excessive bending or torque on the adapter.
  • After collection, disconnect the adapter carefully from both the S-Monovette and the Luer device, following local infection-prevention and sharps-safety procedures.
  • Dispose of the used adapter immediately into an appropriate sharps or clinical waste container; do not reuse or resterilise.
  • Refer to Sarstedt’s S-Monovette instructions and adapter product specification for any additional handling and safety guidance.

Contraindications

  • Do not reuse; reuse or resterilisation can lead to infection risk, cross-contamination or mechanical failure.
  • Do not use if the sterile blister has been opened or damaged prior to use.
  • Do not use if the adapter is visibly damaged, deformed or contaminated.
  • Not intended for direct infusion of drugs or solutions as a stand-alone device; use only as an adapter within validated blood collection procedures.
  • Not suitable for applications outside the specified compatibility with S-Monovette and standard Luer systems.

Adverse Effects

  • When used as intended as a passive connector, the adapter itself is not expected to cause direct patient adverse effects.
  • Incorrect use or loose connections may result in blood leakage or disconnection, increasing exposure risk for staff and potential sample loss.
  • Failure to maintain aseptic technique may increase the risk of infection transmission to patients or healthcare workers.
  • Reuse or improper handling could increase the risk of haemolysis, sample contamination or device failure.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a clean, dry environment at ambient room temperature within normal clinical or laboratory ranges, as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Keep adapters in their original box and individual blisters until use to maintain sterility and protect from dust and mechanical damage.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight or high humidity that may deform or degrade the PET material.
  • Do not store near solvents or aggressive chemicals that could compromise the plastic.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

Duration

Single-use device; intended for one blood collection procedure only and must be discarded immediately after use.

Onset

Immediate mechanical function upon correct connection to the S-Monovette and the Luer-based device; no pharmacological effect.
