Antimicrobial no-rinse patient body wash / skin cleanser (foaming)
Description
Nilaqua Antimicrobial Patient Foam Cleanser 500ml is a no-rinse, alcohol-free foaming body wash specifically designed for patient hygiene where access to water is limited or bathing is difficult. Using Towel Off® technology, the foam is applied directly to the skin, massaged in to lift dirt, sweat and body oils, and then removed by thorough towel drying, leaving the skin clean, deodorised and comfortable without the need for rinsing. Formulated with quaternary ammonium antimicrobial agents (benzalkonium chloride and didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride), it kills 99.9999% of germs while remaining paraben free, pH balanced and kind to fragile or sensitive skin. The product is fragrance free in the antimicrobial variant, making it suitable for infection control, palliative care and situations where patients are sensitive to perfumes.
Bnefits
- Ready-to-use, no-rinse foaming body wash – ideal where access to water is limited or patients are bed bound or have reduced mobility.
- Antimicrobial formulation that kills up to 99.9999% of germs (bacteria, viruses, spores and fungi) when used as directed.
- Uses Towel Off® technology: apply, massage and towel dry to remove dirt, sweat and odours without rinsing.
- Fragrance-free antimicrobial variant suitable for infection control, palliative care and fragrance-sensitive patients.
- Alcohol-free, paraben-free and pH balanced to be mild, non-drying and non-irritating to the skin.
- Quaternary ammonium (quat) based actives which are described by the brand as kinder to skin than chlorhexidine-based cleansers.
- Suitable for use on the whole body, including perineal and incontinence care areas, leaving skin clean and odour free.
- Foam format is easy to control, reduces product waste and is more manageable for caregivers than liquid soaps or gels.
- Hospital-approved and used in the NHS and care-home environments for daily patient hygiene.
- Water-based, aerosol-free formulation with dermatologically considerate surfactants, designed for regular long-term use.
Indications
- Routine body cleansing of bed-bound or low-mobility patients in hospitals, care homes, hospices and home care.
- Hygiene in low-water or no-water situations such as hospital stays, community care visits, holidays, camping or emergency settings.
- Infection-control focused washing when additional antimicrobial action is desired (e.g. during illness, low immunity, post-operative or palliative care).
- Incontinence care and perineal cleansing, especially after soiling episodes, to remove dirt, sweat, odour and organic contamination.
- Personal hygiene for individuals who find traditional bathing or showering difficult, exhausting or impractical.
- Use in clinical and care environments as a gentler alternative to chlorhexidine-based or heavily fragranced washes.

Formulation
- Water-based, alcohol-free foaming skin cleanser supplied as a low-viscosity liquid in a foaming pump bottle.
- Quaternary ammonium disinfectant system (benzalkonium chloride + didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) providing broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.
- Blend of non-ionic, anionic and amphoteric surfactants (amine oxides, ethoxylated alcohols and sodium ethylhexyl sulfate) to lift dirt, sweat, sebum and organic soiling from the skin.
- Fragrance-free antimicrobial patient version to minimise the risk of irritation and support infection-control use in sensitive settings.
- Paraben-free and pH-balanced formulation intended to be gentle enough for regular, long-term use on fragile or elderly skin.
- Non-aerosol foam technology: liquid is dispensed through a mechanical foaming pump, producing a rich foam without propellant gases.
- Classified under cosmetics/personal care and biocidal product categories relevant to topical antimicrobial cleansers; not a medicinal product.
- Designed for use as a towel-off cleanser: effective cleansing and deodorising with no additional water or rinsing required.

Adverse Effects
- Generally well tolerated when used as directed; formulated to be pH balanced and paraben free to minimise irritation.
- Mild, transient skin reactions such as dryness, tightness, itching or redness may occur in sensitive individuals or with very frequent use.
- Allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. rash, swelling, pruritus) may rarely occur in those sensitive to quaternary ammonium compounds or surfactants.
- Accidental eye contact may cause stinging, redness or irritation; persistent symptoms require medical assessment.
- Ingestion of significant quantities may cause irritation of the mouth, throat or gastrointestinal tract and warrants medical advice.
- Any unusual, severe or persistent adverse reaction should prompt discontinuation of the product and consultation with a healthcare professional.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

Duration
Not used as a fixed-duration course; it is intended for repeated daily use as required for personal hygiene. Each application provides immediate cleansing and deodorising, and antimicrobial action is achieved during the short contact time while the foam is massaged and before being thoroughly towel dried.
Onset
Cleansing, moisturising and deodorising effects are immediate upon application, massage and towel-off. Antimicrobial activity (killing 99.9999% of germs) occurs over a short contact period during use, according to in-vitro test data, although exact claimed contact time should be taken from the current label or technical documentation.
