Alcohol-free disinfectant wipes for non-invasive medical devices and non-porous hard surfaces
Description
PDI Sani-Cloth AF Universal Wipes (Flow Wrap x 40) are pre-dosed, alcohol-free disinfectant wipes designed for cleaning and disinfecting non-invasive medical devices and non-porous hard surfaces in healthcare environments. Each maceration-resistant, low-linting wipe is impregnated with a quaternary ammonium compound-based solution that provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, including bactericidal, fungicidal, virucidal and tuberculocidal efficacy. The wipes are particularly suitable for use around patients and staff with respiratory sensitivities, offering rapid disinfection with low contact times while avoiding the flammability and harshness associated with alcohol-based products. Supplied in a convenient flow-wrap soft pack containing 40 wipes (approx. 200 x 200 mm), they are ideal for point-of-care use and routine environmental decontamination in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare settings.
Bnefits
- Alcohol-free quaternary ammonium-based formulation suitable for use around patients and staff with respiratory sensitivities.
- 2-in-1 solution that cleans and disinfects in a single step, simplifying infection-control workflows.
- Broad-spectrum efficacy: bactericidal, fungicidal, virucidal (including coronavirus and norovirus) and tuberculocidal (Mycobacterium terrae).
- Low disinfection contact times (typically 30–60 seconds for many bacteria and viruses, 2 minutes for mycobacteria), supporting rapid turnover of equipment and surfaces.
- Designed for use on non-invasive medical devices and non-porous surfaces, supporting high standards of environmental hygiene.
- Pre-dosed, ready-to-use wipes ensure consistent application without the need for dilution or additional equipment.
- Non-flammable (when used as directed) due to alcohol-free formulation, improving safety in oxygen-rich and high-risk environments.
- Low-linting, durable wipe material that resists tearing and can reach into corners and crevices.
- Helps reduce cross-contamination risk by providing single-use, disposable wipes that are discarded after each application.
- Backed by extensive EN-standard testing and supplied with up-to-date Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and technical documentation.
Indications
- Cleaning and disinfection of non-invasive medical devices (e.g., monitors, blood-pressure cuffs, trolleys and other external equipment surfaces).
- Routine disinfection of non-porous hard surfaces in healthcare environments such as bed rails, worktops, trolleys and examination couches.
- Pre-cleaning or decontamination of medical devices prior to sterilisation or high-level disinfection, as part of a validated reprocessing protocol.
- Use around patients and staff, including those with respiratory sensitivities, where alcohol-containing disinfectants may be unsuitable.
- General infection-prevention and control applications in hospitals, clinics, GP surgeries, dental practices and other clinical settings, following local guidelines.
Composition
- Didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC): approximately ≥ 0.25 – < 0.5% w/w (quaternary ammonium compound active).
- 2-aminoethanol (ethanolamine): approximately ≥ 0.25 – < 1% w/w (pH-adjusting agent and co-active component).
- Potassium carbonate: approximately ≥ 0.25 – < 0.5% w/w (buffer/alkalising agent).
- Phosphoric acid: < 0.25% w/w (pH adjustment; present at low concentration).
- Water (aqua) as primary solvent/vehicle.
- Non-ionic surfactants and auxiliary formulation components to aid cleaning and wetting.
- Alcohol-free; quaternary ammonium compound-based formulation; free from PHMB and bleach according to manufacturer documentation.
Formulation
- Ready-to-use, alcohol-free disinfectant solution impregnated into low-linting non-woven wipes.
- Quaternary ammonium compound-based formulation with supportive surfactants and buffering agents.
- Alkaline solution with pH approximately 11 (per SDS data).
- Designed for topical application on non-invasive medical devices and non-porous environmental surfaces only (not for application to skin or mucosa).
Packaging
- Flow wrap soft pack containing 40 pre-moistened wipes.
- Wipe dimensions: approximately 200 x 200 mm.
- Resealable adhesive label to help prevent wipes from drying out between uses.
- Colour-coded green packaging for easy product identification within infection-control protocols.
- Class IIa medical device labelling on pack (where applicable, depending on market).
Usage
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) according to local infection-control policy before use.
- Open the flow wrap at the resealable label and remove a single wipe; reseal the pack immediately after to minimise drying.
- Thoroughly wipe the surface or non-invasive medical device, ensuring all areas are visibly wetted with the solution.
- Allow the surface to remain visibly wet for at least the required contact time as per local policy and efficacy tables (typically 30–60 seconds for most bacteria and viruses, up to 2 minutes for mycobacteria such as Mycobacterium terrae).
- Allow the surface or device to air dry; do not wipe dry unless explicitly directed by the device manufacturer.
- Use a new wipe for each new surface, device or area to reduce cross-contamination risk.
- Do not flush wipes; dispose of used wipes in accordance with local clinical waste and infection-control procedures.
- For use on non-invasive medical devices only; always consult the device manufacturer’s instructions for compatibility before use.
- Do not use in combination with other detergents or disinfectants, as this may reduce efficacy or cause surface damage.
Contraindications
- Not for use on invasive medical devices or instruments that enter sterile body areas unless used strictly as a pre-clean prior to validated sterilisation/high-level disinfection.
- Not for application to skin, mucous membranes, open wounds or for personal hygiene.
- Do not use on surfaces or materials known to be incompatible with quaternary ammonium compounds (check equipment manufacturer guidance for material compatibility).
- Do not mix with other cleaning or disinfecting products, especially strong oxidising agents or acids.
- Avoid use on delicate optical surfaces or screens without confirming compatibility, although the product is generally suitable for many non-porous surfaces.
Adverse Effects
- Prolonged or repeated skin contact with the solution may cause irritation or redness in sensitive individuals.
- Eye contact with the solution may cause pain, redness and irritation; severe cases may risk eye damage if not rinsed promptly.
- Inhalation of aerosolised product (e.g., from spraying, which is not recommended) may cause irritation of the respiratory tract.
- Ingestion may cause soreness and irritation of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract, with possible nausea and abdominal discomfort.
- Harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects; avoid release into the environment and dispose of according to local regulations.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- Keep the pack tightly closed when not in use to prevent wipes from drying out.
- Store upright and avoid excessive pressure or damage to the flow wrap packaging.
- Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised personnel.
- Do not store near strong acids, oxidising agents or incompatible chemicals.
Duration
Single-use application per surface or device, with recommended surface contact times typically 30\u201360 seconds for many bacteria and viruses and up to 2 minutes for mycobacteria. Frequency of use is determined by local infection-control protocols and environmental cleaning schedules.
Onset
Rapid disinfection with low contact times; efficacy demonstrated from approximately 30 seconds against many bacteria and enveloped/non-enveloped viruses (including coronavirus and norovirus) and 2 minutes against Mycobacterium terrae, according to EN-standard testing.
