Description
Reduced Dead Space 1ml Syringe White X 100 (SKU LW1) is a sterile, single-use 1ml Luer slip syringe barrel with a displacement spike at the end of the plunger to reduce the dead space and associated drug wastage by around 50% compared with standard 1ml Luer slip syringes. Manufactured as the RDS1 1mL reduced dead space syringe, it is supplied in boxes of 100 syringes and is compatible with all standard Luer fit needles and cannulas, excluding the Total Dose low dead space needle range. The syringe body is made from medical grade polypropylene with a latex-free isoprene rubber plunger gasket and medical grade silicone oil lubrication, conforming to ISO 7886-1 and supplied as a CE-marked Class IIa medical device. It is widely used in general medical practice, vaccination, harm reduction services and aesthetic medicine where minimising wastage of high-cost injectable products is important.
Bnefits
- Low dead space design with a displacement spike on the plunger, reducing dead space and drug wastage by around 50% compared with standard 1ml Luer slip syringes.
- Cost-effective, high-quality 1ml syringe barrels suitable for a wide range of injectable medications, including high-cost and low-volume products.
- Standard Luer slip (friction fit) tip compatible with all standard Luer fit needles and cannulas, allowing flexible choice of needle gauge and length.
- Fine 0.01 mL graduations on the transparent barrel support accurate measurement and dosing.
- Sterile, single-use device, helping maintain high infection prevention and control standards in clinical and aesthetic settings.
- CE-marked Class IIa medical device manufactured to ISO 7886-1 and ISO 13485 quality standards, ensuring regulatory compliance and consistent performance.
Indications
- General medical and nursing use requiring a 1ml syringe for preparation and administration of injectable drugs.
- Aesthetic medicine procedures (e.g. dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections) where precise dosing and reduced product wastage are desirable.
- Vaccination and other low-volume injection scenarios where accurate measurement and minimal residual volume are important.
- Use in harm reduction and community services where low dead space syringes help reduce residual blood volume and potential transmission risks.
- Veterinary applications where a 1ml low dead space syringe is required.
Composition
- Syringe body: Medical grade polypropylene (PP 5250T).
- Plunger gasket: Isoprene rubber (latex-free).
- Lubrication: Medical grade silicone oil (DC360) on barrel and gasket.
- Tip: Centre (concentric) Luer slip connection for standard Luer fit needles and cannulas.
Formulation
- Sterile 1ml three-part syringe (barrel, plunger, gasket) with reduced dead space displacement spike.
- Luer slip syringe barrel supplied without needle.
- Manufactured as Class IIa medical device, compliant with ISO 7886-1 for sterile hypodermic syringes for single use.
- Sterilised by ethylene oxide gas in accordance with ISO 11135.
- Compatible with all standard Luer fit needles except Total Dose / low dead space detachable needle range; Sterifilt compatible.
Packaging
- Box of 100 sterile 1ml reduced dead space syringes (RDS1, product code LW1).
- Each syringe supplied in an individual sterile blister pack (approx. 160.5 mm x 35 mm; blister weight ~3.49 g) with medical grade coated paper and medical complex film.
- Box of 100: approx. 210 mm x 165 mm x 90 mm; weight ~430 g; E-corrugated card.
- Outer carton: 3,600 syringes (36 boxes of 100); approx. 580 mm x 440 mm x 530 mm; weight ~14.5 kg; double wall AB flute card.
- All packaging materials are specified as non-recycled and recyclable card where applicable.
Usage
- Check the outer carton and individual blister for integrity and expiry date before use; do not use if packaging is damaged or the product is expired.
- Open the individual blister immediately before use using aseptic technique, maintaining sterility of the syringe and Luer tip.
- Attach a compatible standard Luer fit needle or cannula firmly to the Luer slip tip, ensuring a secure friction-fit connection.
- Draw up the required volume of medication using the 0.01 mL graduations for precise dosing, following local clinical or aesthetic protocols.
- Remove air bubbles as required and administer the injection according to approved technique for the route of administration (e.g. intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal).
- After injection, fully depress the plunger so that the displacement spike minimises residual volume in the syringe tip.
- Immediately dispose of the used syringe and needle as a single assembly into an approved sharps container; do not recap unless local policy and safe technique allow.
- Do not reuse; the syringe is sterile single-use only and must not be resterilised or reprocessed.
Contraindications
- Do not use if the syringe or sterile packaging is damaged, opened, or shows signs of contamination.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to any syringe material (e.g. polypropylene, isoprene rubber, silicone oil).
- Not compatible with the Total Dose low dead space needle range; do not attempt to use with these needles.
- Not intended for applications requiring specialised fixed-needle insulin syringes or other specialised syringe systems with specific regulatory approvals.
- Do not reuse or resterilise; re-use of single-use syringes is contraindicated due to risk of infection and device failure.
Adverse Effects
- Risk of needlestick injury to healthcare workers or others if sharps handling and disposal procedures are not followed.
- Potential dosing inaccuracies if syringe graduations are misread or incorrect technique is used.
- Mechanical issues such as plunger sticking or leakage are rare but may occur if the device is damaged, stored incorrectly, or used after expiry.
- Local injection site reactions, infection or tissue injury are related to the injection procedure and medication rather than the syringe itself but remain possible.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry, well-ventilated environment away from direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat.
- Keep in original packaging until use to maintain sterility and protect from dust, moisture and mechanical damage.
- Avoid compressing, crushing or bending cartons to prevent deformation or damage to the syringe barrels and blisters.
- Store within the temperature range specified by local regulations and typical for sterile medical disposables; avoid extremes of temperature and humidity.
