Leave-on emollient for dry, eczema-prone skin
Description
Cetraben Emollient Cream 1050g Pump is a prescription and pharmacy-sale emollient cream specifically formulated to moisturise, soften and protect dry, red, inflamed, damaged or chapped skin, particularly when associated with eczema and other dry skin conditions. Its high paraffin content (white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin) replaces lost skin oils and forms a protective barrier on the skin surface to reduce transepidermal water loss, while glycerin acts as a humectant to attract and retain water in the outer skin layers. The fragrance-free cream is suitable for all ages, including children, and is supplied in a large, easy-to-use 1050g pump dispenser for frequent, whole-body application.

Usage
- For external use only.
- Apply to dry skin areas as often as required or as directed by a doctor, nurse or pharmacist to ensure continuous hydration throughout the day.
- Apply liberally to the affected areas, ensuring the skin is well covered.
- Smooth the cream gently into the skin in the direction of hair growth using long, smooth strokes; avoid vigorous rubbing which can trigger itching and increase skin heat.
- Use as frequently as needed, typically at least twice daily and after bathing or showering, to help protect the skin from drying out.
- Cetraben Cream may also be applied before and after bathing to protect the skin from further dryness, if advised by a healthcare professional.
- If the cream is accidentally swallowed, go to the nearest accident and emergency department with the product container or leaflet.
- Keep away from naked flames and do not smoke while using the product, as paraffin-based products on clothing, dressings, bedding or other fabric can increase the risk of fire; change and wash such fabrics frequently.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to white soft paraffin, light liquid paraffin or any of the excipients (including parabens, cetostearyl alcohol or sodium lauryl sulfate in the emulsifying wax).
Adverse Effects
- Mild allergic skin reactions such as redness, rash or erythema have been reported very rarely; if this occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
- Potential for delayed hypersensitivity reactions due to parabens (methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben), which may rarely cause allergic reactions.
- Increased risk of fire when paraffin-based products are absorbed by dressings, clothing, bedding and other fabrics, which can be easily ignited by a naked flame or cigarette; this is a safety risk rather than a direct skin reaction but must be highlighted to patients and carers.
Storage Conditions
- Do not store above 25°C.
- Keep the container tightly closed when not in use.
- Keep medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
- Keep away from naked flames and sources of ignition, especially when cream has soaked into clothing, dressings, bedding or other fabrics.
Duration
Intended for regular, long-term use as an emollient; treatment duration is based on clinical need and may be continuous in chronic dry skin and eczema, as advised by a healthcare professional.
Onset
Moisturising and softening effects begin shortly after application, with symptomatic relief of dryness and itch improving as the cream is used regularly over days to weeks.
