Pyruvic acid chemical peel
Description
Enerpeel PA is a medical-grade pyruvic acid (PA) chemical peel formulated in the patented Enerpeel skin remodelling carrier solution. It transports 50% pyruvic acid and MSM into the skin with controlled proton release, achieving powerful anti-ageing, pigment-correcting and seboregulating effects with significantly reduced surface erythema and downtime compared to conventional peels. Enerpeel PA is commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, photoaging, hyperpigmentation, actinic damage, oily and seborrhoeic skin, acne and superficial acne scars. The professional kit supplied by Fillers Direct contains 5 x 2 ml vials for in-clinic use only.
Bnefits
- Delivers high-strength 50% pyruvic acid in a patented carrier to remodel skin with reduced surface irritation
- Improves fine lines, wrinkles and overall photoaging of the face, neck and décolleté
- Helps fade hyperpigmentation, melasma and post-inflammatory pigment marks in suitable skin types
- Sebostatic action helps control oiliness, seborrhoea and enlarged pores
- Useful in treating superficial acne scars and post-acne textural irregularities
- Clinically used for mild to moderate actinic damage and actinic keratosis (as part of broader protocols)
- Enerpeel carrier technology restrains acid activity at the surface and releases it deeper, reducing erythema and visible peeling
- Provides a medium-depth remodelling impact just below that of a 25% Enerpeel TCA peel but with a greater safety profile
- Can be combined with other Enerpeel formulations (e.g. JR, SA) and TripleLock homecare protocols for customised treatment plans
Indications
- Fine lines and wrinkles of the face, neck and décolleté
- Moderate chrono-ageing and photoaging
- Mild to moderate actinic damage and actinic keratosis (as part of a medical protocol)
- Epidermal hyperpigmentation and melasma in suitable skin types
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in lighter to moderate Fitzpatrick skin types (with caution in darker types)
- Oily skin and seborrhoea
- Comedonic, nodular and inflammatory acne (especially post-Salicylic Acid peel as a progression peel)
- Superficial acne scars and post-acne oiliness
- Open pores and coarse skin texture
Composition
- Pyruvic acid 50%
- Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 10%
- Patented Enerpeel carrier solution (proprietary solvent system designed to restrain and then release acid activity)
- Excipients suitable for topical chemoexfoliation (medical-device formulation)
Formulation
- Liquid solution chemical peel supplied in 2 ml vials for professional use
- Active acid: pyruvic acid 50% (alpha-keto acid with strong remodelling and sebostatic properties)
- Contains 10% MSM to support tissue recovery and modulate inflammatory mediators
- Patented Enerpeel carrier technology slows proton mobility and restrains acid at the surface before accelerating penetration into deeper layers
- Chemoexfoliation depth: superficial to superficial–medium, depending on exposure time, number of layers and protocol
- Designed to deliver more remodelling than glycolic acid peels of comparable strength with a more favourable safety profile
Packaging
- Box containing 5 x 2 ml Enerpeel PA vials
- Professional-use presentation intended for in-clinic application by trained practitioners
- Typically used alongside Enerpeel PS (preparatory) and Enerpeel Neutraliser wipes/solution as part of the complete system
- Each vial is for single-patient use during one peel session
Usage
- For professional in-clinic use only by trained medical or aesthetic practitioners.
- Take a full medical and skin history, assess indications, Fitzpatrick type and risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation before treatment.
- Cleanse the treatment area thoroughly and degrease according to Enerpeel protocol, often using Enerpeel PS preparatory wipes or equivalent.
- Protect sensitive areas (eyes, nostrils, lips, mucous membranes) with appropriate barriers per clinic protocol.
- Dispense the contents of one 2 ml vial of Enerpeel PA into a suitable container or use directly with the supplied applicator/brush.
- Apply a uniform layer of Enerpeel PA to the treatment area using a brush/applicator, avoiding eyes and mucous membranes.
- Standard application: leave the first layer for approximately 1–3 minutes while monitoring discomfort (0–10 scale) and watching for frosting.
- If frosting occurs or discomfort becomes significant, neutralise immediately with Enerpeel Neutraliser wipes/solution.
- If no frosting and discomfort remains low (e.g. below 5/10), a second layer may be applied and left for up to an additional 2 minutes before neutralisation, according to protocol and practitioner judgment.
- Enerpeel PA should always be neutralised and not extended beyond protocol; neutralise thoroughly with Enerpeel Neutraliser, wiping all treated areas.
- After neutralisation, gently remove residues as directed (e.g. with damp pads) and apply soothing, hydrating and barrier-repair products, followed by broad-spectrum sunscreen.
- Advise the patient to avoid sun exposure, heat and irritant topical products for the recommended period and to maintain strict daily photoprotection.
- Subsequent peels are typically performed at intervals of 10–14 days depending on indication and skin response.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to pyruvic acid, MSM or any component of the Enerpeel PA formulation.
- Active skin infections, open wounds, severe inflammation or uncontrolled dermatitis in the treatment area.
- Recent ablative procedures, deep peels, fractional resurfacing or surgery in the treatment area where healing is incomplete.
- History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring or impaired wound healing, unless carefully assessed and supervised by a medical professional.
- Use of systemic or topical agents that significantly increase photosensitivity or impair healing (e.g. some retinoids, certain antibiotics) unless managed according to medical guidance.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding as a precaution, unless local regulations and the supervising physician specifically approve treatment.
- Very dark Fitzpatrick skin types with high risk of PIH, unless the clinician judges benefits to outweigh risks and employs strict protocols.
- Patients unable or unwilling to comply with pre- and post-peel care, especially strict photoprotection.
Adverse Effects
- Expected transient sensations of warmth, stinging or burning during application, with temporary erythema immediately after treatment.
- Short-term dryness, tightness, flaking or light peeling in the days following the peel.
- Risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker skin types or if post-procedure sun exposure occurs without adequate protection.
- Less commonly, prolonged erythema, oedema or irritation that may require topical treatment or adjustment of future peel parameters.
- Rarely, blistering, erosions, infection or scarring if protocols are exceeded, contraindications are ignored or aftercare is inadequate.
- Potential allergic or idiosyncratic reactions to pyruvic acid, MSM, the carrier solution or associated pre-/post-peel products.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep vials in their original packaging and tightly closed until use to prevent evaporation or degradation.
- Follow any specific storage temperature recommendations in the Enerpeel PA instructions for use (typically controlled room temperature unless otherwise indicated).
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
- Keep out of reach of children and non-professional users.
Duration
Common protocols use a course of 2–4 Enerpeel PA sessions spaced approximately 10–14 days apart, with some practices extending to 4–6 sessions for more advanced photoaging or acne scarring. Each individual session involves a contact time of roughly 1–5 minutes in total before neutralisation, depending on the number of layers and clinical endpoints. Maintenance courses may be repeated 1–2 times per year based on indication and patient response.
Onset
Initial improvements in skin brightness, texture and oiliness are often visible after the first one or two sessions. More pronounced reductions in fine lines, pigmentation, seborrhoea and superficial acne scarring typically develop progressively over the full course of 2–4+ treatments and continue to consolidate in the weeks following the final peel, especially when combined with appropriate homecare and photoprotection.
