Alcohol-based hand and surface disinfectant wipes (100-count canister)

Description

PURELL Hand & Surface Antimicrobial Wipes – 100 Wipes (code 92100-12-EEU) are sanitising, rinse-free wipes impregnated with an alcohol-based solution for rapid disinfection of hands and non-porous surfaces, including food-contact surfaces. The wipes kill 99.99% of most common harmful germs and have broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, yeast, mould and a range of viruses. Tested under EN 16615 in real-world conditions on non-porous medical surfaces, they offer a one-stop solution that is effective on both skin and smooth surfaces, eliminating the need for separate hand and surface products. The unfragranced, quick-drying formulation is based on 73% v/v ethanol and is supplied in a convenient 100-count, resealable canister designed for use in healthcare, food industry, education, transport, gyms, hospitality and other professional environments.

Indications

  • Hygienic disinfection of hands when soap and water are not immediately available or as part of hand hygiene protocols.
  • Disinfection of non-porous, alcohol-resistant surfaces in healthcare (medical and paramedical environments, health transportation).
  • Disinfection of worktops, trolleys, bed rails, examination couches and other frequently touched surfaces in clinical areas.
  • Use in food industry and catering environments on food-contact surfaces (e.g., preparation tables, counters) after appropriate pre-cleaning.

  • Use in gyms, hospitality, offices, transport and public facilities for quick, convenient hand and surface disinfection.
  • Suitable for infection-prevention programmes where combined hand and surface wipes simplify product range and logistics.

Composition

  • Active substance: Ethanol (CAS 64-17-5) 660.10 g/kg (approximately 73% v/v) in the impregnating solution.
  • Impregnating solution in water with formulation auxiliaries (e.g., stabilisers, denaturants and humectants) – exact non-active ingredients not fully disclosed in public technical sheets.
  • Non-woven wipe substrate: resistant white spunbonded material, 22 g/m² basis weight for the Hand & Surface Antimicrobial range.
  • Wipe size for 100-count canister: approximately 130 x 210 mm per wipe.

Formulation

  • Sanitising, alcohol-based impregnating solution delivered on pre-moistened wipes.
  • Ethanol-based antimicrobial formulation at about 73% v/v for broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy.
  • Unfragranced and colourless solution designed for use on both skin and food-contact surfaces.
  • Quick-drying, non-rinse formulation that leaves minimal residue when used as directed.
  • Formulated as a biocidal product for professional use in human hygiene (PT1) and surface disinfection (PT2/PT4) applications in the EU/UK.

Packaging

  • 100-count canister (tub) of pre-moistened wipes.
  • Wipe size in 100-count canister: approximately 130 x 210 mm.
  • Resealable, rigid plastic canister with pop-top dispensing aperture to limit drying out and allow single-wipe dispensing.
  • Case-level packaging: typically 12 x 100-count canisters per outer case (92100-12-EEU).
  • Labelled with hazard pictograms (flammable and eye irritant), instructions for use, biocide and regulatory information.

Usage

  • General handling: Open the canister lid and pull the first wipe from the centre of the roll with clean hands. Thread the wipe through the opening in the lid and close the lid to set up controlled dispensing.
  • For use on hands:
  • • Pull out a wipe and thoroughly wipe all surfaces of the hands, including between fingers and around fingertips, ensuring hands remain wet for the required contact time (approximately 45 seconds per application).
  • • For EN 1500-level hygienic handrub performance, repeat the operation using a fresh wipe (2 x 45 seconds as indicated in the technical information).
  • • Do not rinse after use; allow hands to air dry completely.
  • For use on surfaces:
  • • Pre-clean heavily soiled surfaces if necessary.
  • • Pull out a wipe and wipe the surface to be disinfected until it is visibly wet, covering the entire area.
  • • Leave the surface to remain wet for the full contact time recommended for the target organisms (typically between 30 seconds and 5 minutes depending on microorganism and standard; 5 minutes is commonly used for full spectrum including fungi and viruses).
  • • Do not rinse; allow the surface to air dry. Suitable for use on alcohol-compatible, non-porous surfaces including many food-contact surfaces.
  • After use:
  • • Dispose of used wipes in an appropriate waste container; do not flush.
  • • Close the canister lid firmly after use to prevent wipes from drying out.
  • Important precautions:
  • • Use on healthy, intact skin only.
  • • Use only on alcohol-compatible surfaces; test on an inconspicuous area if unsure.
  • • Do not mix with other cleaning or disinfecting products.
  • • Use biocides safely; always read the label and product information before use.

Contraindications

  • Do not use on individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to ethanol or any component of the formulation.
  • Not for use on broken, severely damaged or extensively eczematous skin unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Avoid use on mucous membranes, eyes or face; do not wipe inside the mouth or on open wounds.
  • Use only on alcohol-compatible, non-porous surfaces; not recommended for acrylics, some sensitive plastics, lacquered or freshly painted surfaces without prior compatibility testing.
  • Do not swallow. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice and show the product label or safety data sheet.
  • Do not use a wipe if it is dry, as this may reduce antimicrobial efficacy.

Adverse Effects

  • Possible transient dryness or mild irritation of the skin, especially with frequent use on very sensitive skin.
  • Eye irritation in the event of accidental contact with the eyes (due to high ethanol content); immediate rinsing with water is required.
  • Prolonged inhalation of vapours in poorly ventilated areas may cause mild transient symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness, as noted in safety data sheets for ethanol-based products.
  • If persistent redness, irritation, or signs of allergic reaction occur on the skin, discontinue use and seek medical advice.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated place away from heat sources, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources (highly flammable ethanol-based product).
  • Keep container tightly closed when not in use to prevent drying of wipes and evaporation of alcohol.
  • Recommended storage temperature: between 4 °C and 40 °C; do not freeze.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not reuse empty packaging; dispose of containers and unused product in accordance with local regulations.

Duration

Hands: a single disinfection episode consists of wiping hands for around 45 seconds and repeating once (2 x 45 seconds) to meet EN 1500 handrub performance. Surfaces: recommended contact times vary by organism and standard, typically from 30 seconds for bacteria up to about 5 minutes for fungi and certain viruses; surfaces should remain visibly wet for the full contact time.

Onset

Bactericidal activity from 30 seconds (EN 1276 & EN 13727). Virucidal and fungicidal activity is typically achieved between 30 seconds and 5 minutes depending on the microorganism and test standard. Practical disinfection of hands and small surfaces is achieved within the contact times used during wiping and drying.
