PURELL VF PLUS Hygienic Hand Rub ADX-12 - 1200ml (8863-03-EEU) is a high-performance, alcohol-based hygienic hand rub gel designed for frequent use in healthcare and other clinical environments. This refill cartridge is made for the PURELL ADX-12 manual dispenser system and contains a patent-pending formulation that delivers world-class antimicrobial efficacy with very short contact times. Based on approximately 84–85% v/v plant-derived ethanol and enriched with moisturising glycerin and vitamin E, PURELL VF PLUS kills up to 99.999% of the most common potentially dangerous germs while helping maintain skin health, even with very frequent use. The unfragranced, colourless gel has full virucidal activity (EN 14476+A2), exceeds EN standards for medical hand sanitisers and antiseptics (including EN 1500 and EN 12791), and is suitable for both routine hygienic hand disinfection and surgical hand disinfection across the entire clinical routine.

Usage

  • This product is a refill for PURELL ADX-12 manual dispensers. Install only in a compatible ADX-12 dispenser according to the dispenser’s mounting and loading instructions.
  • To install: open the dispenser, remove any empty cartridge, insert the new 1200 ml refill, ensuring the nozzle is properly seated, then close the dispenser until it clicks.
  • For hygienic hand disinfection:
  • • Apply approximately 3 mL of PURELL VF PLUS Hygienic Hand Rub into dry hands (one full actuation or multiple actuations as required to cover all hand surfaces).
  • • Rub vigorously over all hand surfaces, including palms, backs of hands, between fingers, fingertips and thumbs, for at least 30 seconds.
  • • Ensure hands remain wet with product for the full contact time, then allow to air dry; do not rinse.
  • For surgical hand disinfection:
  • • Apply about 3 mL of product to clean, dry hands and forearms.
  • • Rub thoroughly over hands and forearms up to the elbows for 2 x 45 seconds (two applications), ensuring skin remains wet with product for the entire contact time.
  • • Allow to air dry completely; do not rinse.
  • General recommendations:
  • • Use on visibly clean, dry skin; if hands are visibly soiled, wash with soap and water first.
  • • Use as frequently as required during routine clinical work and before aseptic procedures, following local infection control protocols.
  • • External use on skin only; avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
  • • Use biocidal products safely and read all label and product information before use.

Contraindications

  • Do not use in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to ethanol or any of the other ingredients (e.g. glycerin, emollients).
  • Not recommended for application on open wounds, severely damaged or extensively eczematous skin unless directed by a healthcare professional.
  • For external use only; do not ingest.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and other mucous membranes; in case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Do not mix with other products or apply simultaneously with other topical antiseptics on the same area without compatibility assessment.

Adverse Effects

  • Transient stinging or irritation may occur if used on broken or very irritated skin.
  • Frequent use can occasionally lead to dryness or mild irritation in susceptible individuals, although the formulation includes moisturising agents to minimise this risk.
  • May cause serious eye irritation if accidentally splashed into the eyes, due to high ethanol content.
  • In rare cases, allergic contact reactions (redness, itching, rash) may occur; if this happens, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
  • Ingestion of significant quantities can cause symptoms of ethanol intoxication and gastrointestinal irritation; medical attention is required in such cases.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • Keep away from sparks, open flames, hot surfaces and other ignition sources – product is highly flammable.
  • Do not expose to extreme temperatures or freeze; follow storage temperature guidance on the label and technical data sheet.
  • Keep container tightly sealed in its outer packaging until ready for installation in the dispenser.
  • Store out of the reach of children and unauthorised persons.
  • Shelf life is typically 24 months from date of manufacture when stored under recommended conditions.

Duration

Each application for hygienic hand disinfection typically requires at least 30 seconds of rubbing until the hands are fully covered and remain wet for the recommended contact time. For surgical hand disinfection, recommended treatment consists of two 3 mL applications rubbed over hands and forearms for 2 x 45 seconds, providing up to 3 hours of sustained effect as demonstrated in EN 12791 testing.

Onset
