Description
The Candela GentleYAG is a medical-grade, long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser system designed for permanent hair reduction and treatment of a wide range of vascular and cosmetic indications. The unit advertised by Laser & Aesthetic Sales Directory as a \Candela GentleYAG for sale\ is a four-year-old system described as being in very good, almost as-new condition and located on Harley Street, London. It uses Candela’s Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) to deliver measured bursts of cryogen prior to each laser pulse for epidermal protection and patient comfort. With a deeply penetrating wavelength suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types, including tanned and darker skin, GentleYAG offers treatments for permanent hair reduction, beard bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae), facial and leg veins, wrinkles, skin tightening and other benign vascular indications.
Bnefits
Long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength enables effective hair removal on all skin types, including darker and tanned skin, while targeting deeper follicles and vascular structures.
Treats multiple indications beyond hair removal, including beard bumps (PFB), facial and leg veins, skin tightening, wrinkles and other benign vascular lesions, expanding the range of billable procedures for a clinic.
Candela’s Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) delivers cryogen spray just before each laser pulse, providing consistent epidermal cooling to improve safety and patient comfort.
High fluence capability (up to approximately 600 J/cm²) with adjustable pulse durations and spot sizes allows the practitioner to tailor treatments to different skin types and indications.
Multiple spot sizes and repetition rates (up to around 10 Hz on systems such as Mini GentleYAG) support fast treatment of small and large areas, improving clinic throughput.
Four-year-old pre-owned unit described as in very good, as-new condition and supplied with two handpieces and two pairs of protective glasses, offering a lower-cost entry point to a well-established platform.
Indications
Permanent hair reduction and removal on the face and body for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI.
Treatment of beard bumps and pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB).
Treatment of facial veins, leg veins and other benign vascular lesions, as per the device’s clinical indications and local regulations.
Use and installation subject to local laser safety regulations, radiation protection guidelines and any national registration or licensing requirements for medical laser devices.

Usage
Install the GentleYAG system in a suitable medical or aesthetic treatment room with correct electrical supply, adequate ventilation and laser safety controls, following the official operator’s manual.
Connect the fiber-optic delivery system and handpiece, ensuring the fiber is properly supported and free of sharp bends; attach the appropriate distance gauge to achieve the desired spot size.
Power on the system using the key switch and allow it to complete its self-test and warm-up cycle; verify that there are no fault messages and that the system is ready for use.
Assess the patient’s medical history, medications, skin type and treatment area, and determine suitability for long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser based on clinical guidelines and contraindications in the operator’s manual.
Prepare the skin by cleansing, removing makeup or topical products and shaving visible hair when performing hair removal; confirm that there is no active infection, open wound or suspicious lesion in the treatment area.
Provide appropriate wavelength-specific eye protection for the patient and all staff in the room and display required laser warning signage in accordance with local regulations.
Select appropriate treatment parameters (fluence, pulse duration, repetition rate, spot size and DCD settings) based on skin type, hair thickness, indication and body area, using manufacturer guidelines and test spots as needed.
Place the handpiece perpendicular and in full contact with the skin using the distance gauge; activate the laser using the footswitch or finger switch while monitoring clinical endpoints such as perifollicular erythema and patient feedback.
Adjust parameters within safe limits if necessary to achieve effective treatment while avoiding excessive epidermal response; ensure DCD is functioning correctly throughout the procedure.
After treatment, inspect the skin, apply soothing topical agents or cooling if appropriate and provide post-care instructions regarding sun avoidance, use of sunscreen and management of any transient redness or swelling.
Perform regular cleaning and preventive maintenance of the device, handpieces, distance gauges and cooling system as outlined in the operator’s manual, and arrange for periodic servicing by qualified technicians.
Contraindications
Patients with absolute or relative contraindications to long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser treatment as detailed in the GentleYAG operator’s manual, including certain photosensitive disorders and use of photosensitizing medications.
Treatment of areas with active infection, open wounds, severe dermatitis, or suspicious pigmented lesions within the intended treatment field.
Recent significant sun exposure, tanning or use of self-tanning products in the treatment area beyond the intervals recommended by the manufacturer and clinical guidelines.
Use in patients who cannot comply with appropriate eye protection or post-treatment care, or in environments lacking proper laser safety controls and trained supervision.
Operation by untrained personnel or outside the direction of a suitably qualified physician or practitioner where required by local regulations.
Adverse Effects
Transient discomfort or pain during treatment and short-term erythema and perifollicular edema in the treated area, which typically resolve within hours to a few days.
Temporary pigmentary changes, including hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, particularly in darker skin types, recently tanned skin or when inappropriate parameters are used.
Blistering, burns, crusting, scabbing, purpura or, rarely, scarring or infection if excessive energy is delivered, cooling is inadequate or post-treatment care is not followed.
Potential reactivation of herpes simplex in predisposed patients when treating around the mouth or similar areas, if antiviral prophylaxis is not used according to standard practice.
As with all Class IV medical lasers, improper use can lead to eye injury; this risk is mitigated by strict adherence to eye protection requirements and laser safety protocols.
Storage Conditions
Store and operate the GentleYAG system in a clean, dry, temperature-controlled clinical environment within the temperature and humidity ranges specified in the operator’s manual.
Ensure adequate ventilation around the console and avoid blocking air inlets or outlets; do not operate or store the system near flammable gases or in explosive atmospheres.
Lock the system’s wheels when parked to prevent unintended movement and support the fiber cable on the designated pole or support arm to avoid kinks or excessive bending.
Protect the handpiece optics, distance gauges, safety eyewear and other accessories from dust, contaminants and mechanical damage when not in use, for example by using covers or storage trays.
If the device will not be used for an extended period, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for powering down, covering and periodically powering up or servicing the system.
Duration
Hair removal and many vascular or rejuvenation indications typically require a course of multiple sessions (often 4\u20138 or more), spaced several weeks apart depending on body area, hair cycle and clinical protocol; individual treatment sessions can range from a few minutes for small areas to 30 minutes or more for larger regions.
Onset
For hair removal, progressive reduction in hair growth is usually seen after each session, with more durable results emerging over the full course of treatment; for vascular and tightening indications, improvement may be visible after early sessions with optimal results developing gradually over subsequent weeks as tissue remodeling occurs.
