Insulin pen needles

Description

CarePoint Pen Needles 31G 6mm are sterile, single-use insulin pen needles designed for subcutaneous administration of insulin and other injectable medications via compatible pen devices. Each needle features an ultra-fine 31-gauge, 6 mm stainless-steel cannula with a triple-bevel tip, electropolished and siliconised for smoother skin penetration and improved injection comfort. The design incorporates a thin-wall (Maxflow-style) cannula to allow a higher flow rate and reduced injection time while maintaining structural integrity and anti-coring characteristics (minimising fragmentation). The needles are supplied in boxes of 100 and are intended to fit most standard insulin and GLP-1 pen devices with a universal screw thread.

Bnefits

  • Ultra-fine 31G, 6 mm needle length designed for comfortable subcutaneous injections.
  • Triple-bevel needle tip supports smoother skin entry and potentially less insertion pain.
  • Electropolished stainless-steel cannula with high-grade siliconisation to reduce insertion force and improve glide.
  • Thin-wall / Maxflow-type technology helps increase medication flow and reduce overall injection time.
  • Anti-coring design to minimise the risk of needle fragmentation during use.
  • Universal pen compatibility with most major insulin and GLP-1 pen delivery devices that use standard screw-on pen needles.
  • Individually sterile packed needles for single-patient, single-use safety.
  • Suitable for routine daily injections when used according to professional guidance.

Indications

  • Subcutaneous injection of insulin using compatible insulin pen devices.
  • Subcutaneous administration of GLP-1 receptor agonists and other pen-based injectable therapies where a 31G 6 mm needle is appropriate.
  • Use by adults and suitable paediatric patients as directed by a healthcare professional.

Composition

  • Cannula: medical-grade stainless steel, electropolished.
  • Coating: medical-grade silicone lubricant applied to the cannula for smoother insertion.
  • Hub: medical-grade plastic (polymer) with standard pen-needle screw fitting.
  • Sterilisation: sterile, single-use device (commonly ethylene oxide sterilised; exact method per manufacturer labelling).
  • Latex-free construction (as is standard for modern insulin pen needles, unless otherwise stated on pack).

Formulation

  • Medical device – sterile single-use pen needle (no medicinal active ingredient).
  • Needle size: 31G gauge, 6 mm length.
  • Triple-bevel, thin-wall cannula to support Maxflow-type performance.
  • Individually capped with outer and inner protective caps for hygienic handling.

Packaging

  • Box of 100 CarePoint Pen Needles 31G 6mm.
  • Each needle individually packaged with an outer protective cap and inner needle shield.
  • Outer carton labelled with needle size (31G 6mm), quantity (100), lot number and expiry date.
  • Supplied as retail or clinic-use boxes; outer shipping cartons contain multiple boxes depending on wholesaler configuration.

Usage

  • Check the outer box and individual needle packaging for integrity and expiry date before use; do not use if damaged or expired.
  • Remove the protective seal and screw the needle straight onto the pen device using the outer cap to avoid accidental needlestick injury.
  • Pull off the outer cap and retain it for later disposal; then remove the inner cap to expose the needle.
  • Prime the pen according to the medication manufacturer’s instructions (e.g. dial a small dose and expel until a drop is visible).
  • Insert the needle into a lifted skin fold at the angle recommended by your healthcare professional (commonly 90° for short needles) into the subcutaneous tissue.
  • Press the injection button fully and hold the pen in place for several seconds (often 5–10 seconds, depending on pen instructions) to ensure the full dose is delivered.
  • Withdraw the needle from the skin, carefully recap with the outer cap if self-injecting, then unscrew the needle from the pen.
  • Dispose of the used needle immediately into an approved sharps container; never reuse or share needles.
  • Store the pen without a needle attached between injections to reduce the risk of air entry and leakage.

Contraindications

  • Not for intramuscular or intravenous injection; intended for subcutaneous use only.
  • Do not use in patients with known allergies or hypersensitivity to stainless steel, silicone or any material used in the needle, unless assessed as safe by a healthcare professional.
  • Do not reuse, re-sterilise or share needles between patients.
  • Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged, opened, or past the expiry date.

Adverse Effects

  • Local injection site reactions such as pain, redness, bruising or small amounts of bleeding.
  • Possible local infection if aseptic injection technique is not followed.
  • Lipodystrophy or skin thickening at injection sites if injection locations are not rotated appropriately (related to injection practice and medication rather than the needle alone).
  • Very rare risk of needle bending or breakage if misused, forced or reused contrary to instructions.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry environment at room temperature.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture.
  • Keep in original packaging until use to protect from contamination and physical damage.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Dispose of used needles in accordance with local sharps and clinical waste regulations.

Duration

Used per injection as part of ongoing injectable therapy (e.g. insulin, GLP-1) as prescribed; each needle is single-use only.

Onset

Not applicable \u2013 this is an injection device; onset and duration of effect depend on the medication administered.
