Description
Fexofenadine 120mg Tablets (30) is a UK prescription-only medicine pack containing 30 film-coated tablets of the non-sedating antihistamine fexofenadine hydrochloride. It is indicated in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over for the relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) such as sneezing, itchy, runny or blocked nose and itchy, red, watery eyes. Each tablet contains 120mg fexofenadine hydrochloride, providing once-daily 24-hour symptom relief with minimal drowsiness.

Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over, including sneezing, itchy, runny or blocked nose and itchy, red, watery eyes
Composition
- Active ingredient: Fexofenadine hydrochloride 120mg (equivalent to approximately 112mg fexofenadine) per film-coated tablet
- Typical tablet core excipients (may vary by manufacturer): microcrystalline cellulose or powdered cellulose, maize starch or pregelatinised maize starch, mannitol (E421), croscarmellose sodium, povidone, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate
- Typical film-coating excipients (may vary by manufacturer): hypromellose, povidone, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol (e.g. macrogol 400), iron oxides and/or Allura Red AC lake (E129)

Usage
- For adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: the usual recommended dose is one 120mg tablet once daily.
- Take the tablet with water before a meal, as stated in the Patient Information Leaflet.
- Swallow tablets whole; do not chew or crush unless advised by a healthcare professional.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.
- Use only as directed by a doctor, pharmacist or according to the Patient Information Leaflet.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine hydrochloride or to any of the excipients in the formulation
- Use in children under 12 years of age is not recommended for this 120mg strength
- Caution and medical advice required in patients with significant hepatic or renal impairment, in the elderly and in those with a history of heart disease
Adverse Effects
- Common: headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea
- Uncommon: tiredness or sleepiness
- Frequency not known: insomnia, sleeping disorders, bad dreams, nervousness, blurred vision, fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations), diarrhoea, skin rash and itching, urticaria (hives), serious allergic reactions including angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat), flushing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing
- Patients should stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical advice if they experience signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat with difficulty breathing
Storage Conditions
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister (EXP). The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
- This medicinal product does not usually require any special storage conditions; store in the original pack to protect from moisture and handling.
- Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste; return unused tablets to a pharmacy for safe disposal.
Duration
Duration of treatment depends on the persistence of allergic symptoms and clinical advice. Fexofenadine 120mg tablets are often used throughout the hay fever season or for as long as exposure to the allergen persists, as advised by a healthcare professional.
Onset
Onset of symptom relief is typically within about 1 hour after oral administration, with effects lasting up to 24 hours following a single 120mg dose.
