Description

The GRIPPER PLUS® Safety Needle 22G x 75 (19mm) is a non-coring safety Huber port access needle with an integrated extension set for accessing implanted vascular ports. It features a thick cushioned needle platform for patient comfort, a removable contoured grip for controlled insertion, and a locking safety arm that provides audible and visual confirmation on activation during needle removal. The set includes non-DEHP, TOTM-plasticized PVC extension tubing with a needleless access connector and color-coded clamp. Each box contains 12 sterile, single-use devices.

Usage

Use only by trained healthcare professionals familiar with implanted port access and safety Huber needles.
Inspect the sterile package before use; do not use if the pouch is damaged or opened.
Prime the extension tubing and needleless connector per institutional protocol, using aseptic technique.
Locate the implanted port and prepare the skin using appropriate antiseptic according to local policy and ANTT® principles.
Stabilize the port and insert the non-coring Huber needle perpendicular to the septum using the removable contoured grip, advancing until the needle tip contacts the reservoir floor and the cushioned base rests flush on the skin.
Confirm patency and position according to protocol (e.g., aspiration of blood return and saline flush).
Secure the needle and extension set per institutional policy and connect infusion or injection devices to the needleless access connector as required.
At completion of therapy, stop infusion, clamp the extension tubing, and flush and lock the line if required by protocol.
To de-access, activate the safety mechanism as per Instructions for Use while withdrawing the needle from the port; listen for the audible click and visually confirm that the safety arm is locked over the needle.
Dispose of the used safety needle in an appropriate sharps container immediately after removal.

Contraindications

Use is contraindicated in patients where access via an implanted port is not clinically indicated or is specifically contraindicated by the treating clinician.
Do not use in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any component materials (e.g., stainless steel, PVC, TOTM plasticizer or other device materials).
Do not use if the sterile barrier packaging is damaged, opened, or if sterility is otherwise compromised.

Adverse Effects

Potential complications associated with central venous access and implanted port use, such as infection, extravasation, thrombosis, bleeding, pain or discomfort at the access site, or catheter malfunction.
Local skin irritation or hypersensitivity reactions related to device materials in susceptible individuals.
Needlestick injury risk if safety mechanism is not correctly activated or standard sharps precautions are not followed.

Storage Conditions

Store in a clean, dry environment at standard room temperature, away from direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat or moisture.

Duration
