Reusable gel coolant pack for vaccine transport bags

Description

The Gel Coolant Pack - Single is a reusable Labcold gel pack designed specifically for use with Labcold vaccine transport and carry bags. When pre-cooled or frozen, it helps maintain vaccines within the required 2–8°C temperature range during transport. The flat, flexible pack contains a non-toxic coolant gel sealed in a durable plastic pouch and is intended to be used in multiples according to the size of the vaccine bag to enhance cooling performance and support cold chain integrity.

Bnefits

  • Designed for use with Labcold vaccine transport bags and carriers to help maintain vaccines at 2–8°C during transport.
  • Reusable gel coolant pack that can be pre-cooled or frozen according to local cold chain protocols, reducing waste compared with single-use packs.
  • Flat profile allows packs to be positioned around vaccine payloads to create an even temperature distribution inside the bag.
  • Non-toxic gel formulation sealed in a robust plastic pouch for reliable performance in transit.
  • Simple sizing and quantity recommendations per bag size (3L, 10L, 20L, 30L) make correct configuration straightforward.
  • Supports compliance with vaccine storage and handling guidelines by enhancing the performance of insulated vaccine bags.

Indications

  • Used as a coolant pack in Labcold vaccine transport bags and carriers for transporting temperature-sensitive vaccines and pharmaceuticals.
  • Recommended for use in primary care, community vaccination clinics, pharmacies and outreach services where vaccines must be kept within the cold chain during transport.
  • Suitable as a coolant element for other compatible insulated containers when used in accordance with local vaccine cold chain procedures.

Composition

  • Sealed plastic pouch containing a reusable, non-toxic coolant gel (water-based gel with proprietary additives).
  • Durable outer polymer film designed to resist puncture and leakage under normal handling.
  • Welded seams around the perimeter of the pouch to maintain containment of the gel.

Formulation

  • Non-medicated, reusable gel coolant pack.
  • Flat rectangular form factor for lining or surrounding vaccine containers within insulated bags.
  • Designed to be chilled in a refrigerator or frozen in a freezer before use according to local cold chain protocols.

Packaging

  • Supplied as a single Labcold gel coolant pack.
  • Each pack is individually supplied; multiple packs are typically ordered to configure vaccine bags according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Outer trade packaging (carton) may contain multiple single packs for bulk or institutional orders.

Usage

  • Prepare the gel pack in advance by placing it in a refrigerator or freezer, following local vaccine cold chain guidance (for example, refrigerated between approximately 2–8°C or frozen then conditioned before use, depending on vaccine requirements).
  • Ensure the pack is fully cooled or frozen as required before loading into the vaccine transport bag to maximise cold life.
  • Distribute the required number of packs evenly around the vaccine payload inside the insulated bag, typically lining the sides and/or top and bottom as space permits.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the number of gel packs per bag size: e.g. 3 gel packs for 3L bags, 6 gel packs for 10L bags, 6 gel packs plus additional cool blocks for 20L and 30L bags, or as updated by Labcold and local policy.
  • Avoid placing frozen packs in direct contact with freeze-sensitive vaccines; use an insulating layer (e.g. cardboard, bubble wrap, or paper) between packs and vaccine containers where required by protocol.
  • Close the vaccine bag promptly after packing to conserve cold life and minimise temperature fluctuations.
  • After use, allow the pack to return towards room temperature before re-freezing or re-chilling, if specified by local procedures.
  • Inspect the pack regularly for punctures, splits or leakage; discard and replace any damaged or leaking packs according to local waste disposal regulations.
  • Do not pierce, cut, ingest or apply the gel pack directly to the skin as a medical cold pack unless allowed by local guidelines and after wrapping in a protective cloth.

Contraindications

  • Not intended for direct therapeutic application to the body as a medical cold pack unless specifically permitted by local policy.
  • Do not use if the gel pack is punctured, leaking, excessively worn or shows visible damage.
  • Not suitable for ingestion; keep away from children and individuals who may attempt to bite or puncture the pack.
  • Do not heat in a microwave, oven or on direct heat sources; the pack is designed for cooling only.
  • Do not use without appropriate insulation when transporting freeze-sensitive vaccines if the pack is fully frozen, to avoid accidental freezing of contents.

Adverse Effects

  • Incorrect use (e.g. placing frozen packs directly against freeze-sensitive vaccines) can result in accidental freezing and potential loss of vaccine potency.
  • If the pack leaks and gel contacts skin or eyes, it may cause mild irritation; affected areas should be rinsed with clean water and local guidance followed.
  • If the pack is used inappropriately as a direct cold pack on skin without a barrier, it may cause cold injury or discomfort.

Storage Conditions

  • Store unused packs in a clean, dry environment when not being actively chilled or frozen.
  • For use as coolant packs, store in a refrigerator or freezer according to local cold chain procedures and the requirements of the vaccines being transported.
  • Protect packs from sharp objects, excessive weight or crushing that may cause punctures or damage.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources when not in use to preserve material integrity.
  • Do not store near items that could be contaminated by any accidental leakage; place in a secondary container if required by local policy.

Duration

Used for the duration of each vaccine transport journey; effective cold life depends on the number of packs used, initial conditioning, bag size, ambient temperature and frequency of bag opening, typically providing several hours of temperature control when used correctly.

Onset

Cooling effect is immediate once a pre-cooled or frozen gel pack is loaded into the insulated bag and the bag is closed.
