Disposable instant cold pack (mini size)

Description

The Instant Ice Pack Mini is a Relief branded, single-use disposable cold pack manufactured by Reliance Medical and supplied in the UK by Medisave. This compact 100 g pack provides convenient on-the-spot cold therapy for the first aid treatment of sprains, strains, bruises and abrasions, especially in sports and workplace settings. Activation is achieved by twisting or firmly squeezing the pack to rupture the inner water sachet, which mixes with urea crystals to produce an immediate cooling reaction. The pack is free from ammonium nitrate, offers approximately 20–25 minutes of cold therapy, and its compact size makes it ideal for inclusion in first aid kits and pitch-side or travel medical bags.

Bnefits

  • Instant, ready-to-use cold therapy with no pre-freezing required.
  • Compact mini size (approx. 14–15 cm x 12–15 cm, 100 g) ideal for first aid kits and mobile use.
  • Free from ammonium nitrate, using urea-based cooling technology instead.
  • Provides around 20–25 minutes of effective cold therapy for acute injuries.
  • Easy activation by twisting or crushing the pack to break the internal water sachet.
  • Single-use, disposable design reduces risk of cross-contamination between users.
  • Economic and space-saving solution for sports clubs, workplaces, schools and home first aid.
  • Suitable for treating a wide range of minor soft-tissue injuries and bumps.
  • Recognised Reliance / Relief brand widely used in UK first aid and sports medicine markets.

Indications

  • Immediate cold therapy for minor soft-tissue injuries such as sprains, strains and contusions.
  • First aid treatment for bruises and abrasions.
  • Supportive relief for minor muscle injuries sustained during sports and physical activity.
  • Short-term cold application for minor headaches or localised pain where cold is appropriate.
  • Inclusion in first aid kits for workplaces, schools, sports teams and home use.

Composition

  • Outer pouch: durable plastic (polyethylene / laminated film) containing active components.
  • Internal liquid sachet: water.
  • Cooling agent: urea crystals activated when mixed with water.
  • Product is free from ammonium nitrate as stated by the manufacturer.
  • Approximate content weight: 100 g (mini size).

Formulation

  • Single-use, disposable instant cold pack.
  • Mini / standard small size: approximately 14–15 cm x 12–15 cm, 100 g fill.
  • Chemical cold reaction produced by mixing water and urea crystals on activation.
  • Supplied at ambient temperature; does not require refrigeration or freezing prior to use.

Packaging

  • Individual foil/plastic sachet containing one 100 g mini instant ice pack.
  • Outer trade packaging typically supplied in cases (e.g. case of 100) for institutional buyers; Medisave supplies individual units for retail.
  • Printed outer packaging indicating brand (Relief), manufacturer (Reliance Medical), SKU 7710 and usage instructions.
  • Suitable for storage inside first aid kits, sports bags and medical cupboards.

Usage

  • Inspect the pack before use; do not use if damaged or leaking.
  • To activate, twist, crush or firmly squeeze the pack to rupture the internal water sachet, ensuring the water mixes thoroughly with the urea crystals.
  • Shake the pack briefly to distribute the cooling mixture evenly.
  • Wrap the pack in a thin cloth, towel or dressing before applying to the skin to avoid cold-burns or frostbite-like injury.
  • Apply to the affected area for up to 15–20 minutes at a time, monitoring the skin regularly, especially in children, the elderly or those with reduced sensation.
  • If needed, allow the skin to return to normal temperature before reapplying another cold pack, in line with local clinical guidance (e.g. R.I.C.E. protocol).
  • Do not puncture or ingest the contents; if the pack leaks, avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes and wash skin with water.
  • After use, dispose of the pack as general waste in accordance with local regulations; it is not reusable.
  • Keep out of reach of children unless under adult supervision.
  • Always seek medical advice for serious, persistent or uncertain injuries.

Contraindications

  • Do not apply directly to broken skin, open wounds or mucous membranes.
  • Avoid use in individuals with known cold hypersensitivity, cold urticaria, cryoglobulinaemia or Raynaud’s phenomenon without medical advice.
  • Use cautiously, or avoid, in patients with impaired circulation, diabetes or reduced skin sensation unless directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Do not use for prolonged continuous periods; excessive cold exposure may cause skin damage or frostbite-like injury.
  • Not for ingestion; keep away from mouth and eyes. If contents are ingested or come into contact with eyes, seek medical advice immediately.
  • Discontinue use if excessive pain, numbness, discolouration or irritation of the skin occurs.

Adverse Effects

  • Transient redness or mild discomfort at the application site due to cold exposure.
  • Risk of cold-induced skin damage or frostbite-like injury if applied directly to skin without a barrier or used for excessive durations.
  • Potential local irritation if the outer bag leaks and contents come into direct contact with skin or eyes.
  • Very rare allergic or sensitivity reactions to pack materials or contents in susceptible individuals.

Storage Conditions

  • Store at room temperature in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Do not expose to temperatures above those stated on the packaging (typically avoid high heat that may weaken the outer pouch).
  • Do not freeze or refrigerate prior to use; the pack is designed to activate from ambient temperature.
  • Keep in original packaging or in a dry section of a first aid kit to protect from puncture or damage.
  • Keep out of reach of young children when not in supervised use.

Duration

Each mini instant ice pack provides approximately 20\u201325 minutes of effective cold therapy per activation; it is designed for a single treatment session and then must be discarded. Overall duration of cold therapy for an injury should follow medical or first aid guidelines (e.g. intermittent application over the first 24\u201348 hours).

Onset

Cooling effect begins within seconds of activation and shaking, providing near-immediate cold therapy when applied to the affected area.
