      Pre-injection skin cleansing swabs

      Description

Robinsons IPA Alcohol Pre-Injection Swabs x 100 are individually wrapped, non-woven swabs impregnated with 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) designed for rapid disinfection of the skin prior to injections and minor procedures. Each box contains 100 single-use swabs that act as a disinfectant to clean and help remove bacteria at the intended injection or puncture site. The swabs are also suitable for disinfecting certain non-critical medical surfaces and accessories, such as Littmann stethoscope diaphragms and other small equipment parts, in line with manufacturer guidance.

      Bnefits

      • Contain 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA), providing effective antimicrobial action for pre-injection skin preparation.
      • Individually wrapped sachets support aseptic technique and reduce risk of cross-contamination.
      • Impregnated non-woven material delivers consistent wetting and mechanical cleansing of the skin.
      • Convenient box of 100 swabs offers an economical solution for busy clinical environments.
      • Suitable for use on intact skin prior to injections, venepuncture and capillary sampling, following local protocols.
      • Can also be used, where appropriate, to clean and disinfect certain non-critical medical devices such as stethoscope diaphragms.
      • Compact, lightweight packaging facilitates easy storage in trolleys, bags and treatment rooms.

      Indications

      • Disinfection and cleansing of intact skin prior to administering injections (e.g. subcutaneous, intramuscular) or finger-stick tests.
      • Pre-cleaning of venepuncture or cannulation sites as part of local aseptic technique protocols (where alcohol swabs are indicated).
      • Cleaning of selected non-critical medical equipment surfaces (e.g. stethoscope diaphragms) in accordance with manufacturer and infection-prevention guidance.

      Composition

      • Impregnating solution: 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol (IPA) in purified water.
      • Substrate: non-woven swab material (typically viscose/polyester blend; exact composition not publicly specified).
      • Primary packaging: individual foil or laminate sachets to maintain sterility of the swab until use.

      Formulation

      • Ready-to-use, non-sterile (or low-bioburden) alcohol-impregnated swab for external use on intact skin.
      • Isopropyl alcohol concentration of 70% v/v, a widely used level for rapid antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of bacteria and some viruses.
      • Single-use disposable format to support infection-prevention and control practices.

      Packaging

      • Box containing 100 individually wrapped pre-injection swabs.
      • Each swab sealed in its own sachet to maintain alcohol content and hygiene until opened.
      • Outer carton printed with product name, brand (Robinsons), quantity (box of 100), key features (70% IPA) and basic usage information.
      • Product code/SKU RB5885 used by multiple distributors for identification.

      Usage

      • Check the sachet integrity before use; do not use if the sachet is torn or damaged or if the swab appears dry.
      • Tear open the sachet at the notch and remove the swab, taking care to touch only the handle portion where possible.
      • Apply the swab to the intended skin area using firm, circular motions, working from the centre outward to cover the required field.
      • Allow the skin to air dry completely to maximise antimicrobial effect and reduce stinging before performing injection or venepuncture.
      • Use each swab once only and discard immediately after use in an appropriate clinical waste container.
      • Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, broken skin or large areas of damaged tissue.
      • When used to clean non-critical equipment surfaces (e.g. stethoscope diaphragms), wipe thoroughly and allow the surface to dry before next patient use, ensuring compatibility with device manufacturer recommendations.

      Contraindications

      • Do not use on open wounds, broken or extensively damaged skin unless directed by a healthcare professional and product labelling permits.
      • Not suitable for patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to isopropyl alcohol or any component of the swab.
      • Avoid use on mucous membranes (e.g. eyes, mouth, genitals).
      • Use with caution in neonates, premature infants or patients with very sensitive skin, following local guidelines.
      • Keep away from sources of ignition; isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable.

      Adverse Effects

      • Transient stinging, burning or mild irritation at the application site, especially on sensitive skin.
      • Dryness or redness of the skin with repeated or frequent use in the same area.
      • In rare cases, allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity reactions may occur; discontinue use and seek medical advice if such reactions develop.
      • Eye irritation if accidentally splashed into the eyes; rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
      • Inhalation of high concentrations of vapour in confined spaces may cause dizziness or headache; use in well-ventilated areas.

      Storage Conditions

      • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat or ignition.
      • Keep the outer box tightly closed to reduce evaporation and maintain alcohol content of individual swabs.
      • Recommended storage at room temperature, typically below 25 °C, unless otherwise stated on the packaging.
      • Do not store near naked flames, sparks or hot surfaces due to the flammable nature of isopropyl alcohol.
      • Keep out of the reach of children and unauthorised persons.

      Duration

Acts within seconds after application; contact time typically in the order of 30 seconds until evaporation/drying, in line with standard alcohol skin-preparation practice.

      Onset

Rapid antimicrobial effect begins immediately upon contact with the skin, with maximal effect achieved as the alcohol is allowed to remain on the surface and air dry.
