Polycaprolactone (PCL) collagen-stimulating skin booster / filler
Description
iLLUMA Polycaprolactone (PCL) 2 x 1 ml is a versatile and durable injectable skin booster and biostimulatory filler designed for facial rejuvenation. Formulated with 12.5% polycaprolactone (PCL), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic polymer, it restores lost volume, improves facial contours and stimulates long-term collagen synthesis. The product is composed of nano-sized PCL particles that, once injected, trigger new collagen production, providing long-lasting volume and skin-tightening results. In addition to PCL, the formula features key ingredients such as peptide, glutathione and hyaluronic acid, supporting fibroblast and elastin synthesis, hydrating the skin and enhancing overall skin quality. iLLUMA PCL offers a safe and effective method to address volume loss, wrinkles and skin laxity, delivering natural, gradual and durable outcomes when administered by trained professionals.
Bnefits
- Restores facial volume in areas affected by age-related or structural volume loss.
- Stimulates collagen, fibroblast and elastin synthesis for long-term skin firming and rejuvenation.
- Provides a long-lasting, natural volumising effect thanks to biostimulatory PCL nanoparticles.
- Hydrates the skin and improves overall skin quality via hyaluronic acid and supportive ingredients.
- Lifts sagging skin and improves facial contours, contributing to a more youthful appearance.
- Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines over time through collagen remodelling.
- PCL nanoparticle technology provides smooth injections and long-term skin-tightening results.
- Consistent particle shape and optimised formulation help reduce the risk of needle clogging and support even product distribution.

Indications
- Correction of facial volume loss and enhancement of facial contours as determined by the treating practitioner.
- Treatment of wrinkles and fine lines associated with skin ageing.
- Improvement of skin elasticity, firmness and texture through biostimulatory collagen induction.
- Lifting and tightening of mildly sagging facial tissues.
- Long-term facial rejuvenation where gradual, natural-appearing volume and structural improvement are desired.
- Use in appropriately selected adult patients within professional aesthetic and dermatology clinics.
Composition
- Polycaprolactone (PCL) 12.5% – biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic polymer in nano-particle form, acting as a collagen-stimulating scaffold to restore volume and promote long-term collagen synthesis.
- Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) approximately 2.5% – carrier / stabilising polymer used in some PCL filler systems to support particle suspension and handling (as per iLLUMA PCL technical descriptions).
- Peptide – a bioactive peptide component to support fibroblast activity, collagen/elastin synthesis and overall skin regeneration.
- Glutathione – antioxidant ingredient that helps protect against oxidative stress and supports skin brightening and protection.
- Hyaluronic acid – hydrating ingredient that contributes to immediate moisture, improved skin feel and support of dermal environment.
- Additional excipients and stabilisers suitable for injectable PCL-based biostimulatory fillers (full technical list provided in the official iLLUMA PCL brochure and product documentation).
Formulation
- Injectable PCL-based biostimulatory filler / skin booster supplied in ready-to-use 1 ml syringes.
- Contains 12.5% nano-sized PCL particles (approximately 475 ± 75 nm) dispersed in a carrier matrix for smooth injection and controlled collagen stimulation.
- Biocompatible and biodegradable formulation designed for long-term collagen biostimulation and structural support rather than short-lived volumisation.
- Intended for deep dermal or subdermal injection using needle or cannula, according to the official protocol and practitioner judgement.
Packaging
- Box containing 2 x 1 ml sterile, pre-filled syringes of iLLUMA Polycaprolactone (PCL).
- Each syringe is individually packed and labelled with product name, volume (1 ml), batch number and expiry date.
- Outer packaging branded as iLLUMA Polycaprolactone (PCL) indicating that it is a skin booster / filler with 12.5% PCL and biostimulatory properties.
- Professional-use-only labelling and reference to downloadable product brochure with detailed technical and protocol information.
Usage
- For professional use only; must be administered by qualified medical or aesthetic practitioners experienced in injectable biostimulators and facial anatomy.
- Review the official iLLUMA PCL brochure and instructions for use for detailed guidance on injection depths, recommended areas, volumes and techniques.
- Conduct a full consultation, including medical history, risk assessment and treatment planning; obtain informed consent.
- Cleanse and disinfect the treatment area thoroughly and maintain strict aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
- Select appropriate needle or cannula (gauge and length) according to area and protocol; attach securely to the pre-filled syringe.
- Inject iLLUMA PCL into the recommended dermal or subdermal planes using appropriate techniques (e.g. linear threading, fanning, depot injections) while carefully aspirating where clinically indicated and avoiding intravascular injection.
- Distribute product evenly across the target areas to support uniform collagen stimulation and natural volumisation.
- Typical treatment plans involve 1–3 sessions spaced several weeks apart, with follow-up and potential touch-ups or maintenance determined by patient response and practitioner judgement.
- Provide post-treatment advice, which may include avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat (saunas/steam rooms), alcohol and direct sun exposure for a specified period, and gentle massage or no massage depending on protocol.
- Dispose of all used syringes, needles or cannulas as clinical sharps waste in accordance with local regulations.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to polycaprolactone, poly(vinyl alcohol), hyaluronic acid, peptides, glutathione or any excipient in the formulation.
- Active skin infections, inflammation, dermatitis or open wounds at or near the proposed injection sites.
- History of severe keloid or hypertrophic scarring within the intended treatment area.
- Patients with significant uncontrolled systemic illness, coagulation disorders or autoimmune disease unless carefully assessed and cleared by a medical practitioner.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding, as a precaution due to limited safety data for PCL-based biostimulatory fillers in these populations.
- Use in individuals below the age permitted by local regulations and clinic policy (commonly under 18 years).
- Injection into areas with active implants, foreign bodies or where PCL filler is otherwise contraindicated by local guidelines or manufacturer recommendations.
Adverse Effects
- Common injection-related effects such as temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising and mild pain at injection sites, typically resolving within a few days.
- Transient nodules, lumps or irregularities in the treated area, particularly if product is not evenly distributed or if aftercare instructions are not followed; some may require clinical management.
- Rare risk of granuloma formation or delayed-onset nodules associated with biostimulatory fillers, which may require medical evaluation and treatment.
- Asymmetry or contour irregularities if injection volume or placement is suboptimal.
- Risk of infection, including localised abscess, if aseptic technique is compromised.
- Very rare but serious risk of vascular occlusion, tissue ischaemia or necrosis if product is inadvertently injected into a blood vessel; requires immediate recognition and emergency management.
- Potential post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially in individuals with higher Fitzpatrick skin types or a history of PIH.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place at a stable temperature within the range specified in the product documentation (typically controlled room temperature; avoid extremes).
- Keep in original packaging to protect from light, moisture and physical damage until immediately before use.
- Do not freeze and avoid exposure to excessive heat or direct sunlight.
- Do not use if the packaging is damaged, if the syringe or contents appear compromised or if the solution/suspension appears abnormal.
- Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging; discard in accordance with local regulations.
- Once a syringe has been used, discard any remaining product; do not attempt to re-sterilise or reuse.
Duration
Results develop gradually over weeks to months as new collagen is synthesised and can last many months to years depending on individual factors, treatment area, volume used and clinical protocol. Treatment courses typically involve multiple sessions spaced weeks apart with occasional maintenance treatments thereafter.
Onset
Some immediate contouring and volume may be visible after injection due to the presence of the product, while the main biostimulatory effect appears progressively over several weeks to months as PCL nanoparticles stimulate new collagen production, improving volume, firmness and skin texture.
