Antistatic medical work clogs
Description
The Birkenstock Birki Air Antistatic Clog is a professional occupational shoe designed for use in laboratories, operating theatres and other medical and hygienic work environments. Molded from durable, antistatic polyurethane (PU) and identifiable by its raised, high-cut shape, this closed-front clog provides a firm, secure grip and all-day comfort. Large ventilation openings at the forefoot keep the foot climate fresh, while the removable, anatomically shaped PU footbed supports the natural anatomy of the foot to help prevent posture problems, joint strain and muscle fatigue. The antistatic clog and footbed are certified according to EN ISO 20347:2012/2022 for occupational footwear, with antistatic protection and slip-resistant PU outsole. The upper is water resistant, oil- and grease-resistant, and highly resilient. The clog can be washed at up to 80°C, and the removable antistatic footbed can be washed and disinfected at up to 60°C, making it ideal for demanding medical, food-service and laboratory settings.

Usage
- Select the correct size and width according to Birkenstock sizing guidance to ensure proper fit and support.
- Insert and correctly position the original Birki Air Antistatic PU footbed inside the clog before use; the antistatic properties are only ensured when the shoe is used together with the dedicated Birki Air Antistatic footbed.
- Wear the clogs with suitable work socks as per workplace hygiene and safety policies.
- Use as everyday occupational footwear during work shifts in appropriate environments; ensure compliance with local PPE and footwear regulations.
- For cleaning the clog body: wash under running water or in an appropriate washing system at temperatures up to 80°C, using mild detergent if necessary; allow to air dry away from direct heat sources.
- For cleaning the removable footbed: remove from the clog and wash by hand or machine at temperatures up to 60°C; allow to air dry completely before reinserting into the clog.
- Disinfect clogs and footbeds only with disinfectants compatible with PU and microfiber/fleece materials, following manufacturer and infection-control recommendations.
- Inspect clogs and footbeds regularly for wear, damage or significant loss of antistatic or slip-resistant properties; replace footbeds or shoes as needed.
- Do not replace the Birki Air Antistatic footbed with non-antistatic or non-original footbeds if antistatic certification is required for the workplace.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to high heat sources (radiators, open flames) or harsh chemicals that may damage PU material.
Contraindications
- Not suitable where local regulations or workplace safety policies require steel-toe or other specific protective footwear beyond EN ISO 20347 occupational-shoe requirements.
- Not suitable for environments requiring certified electrostatic discharge (ESD) footwear exceeding the antistatic performance of EN ISO 20347 antistatic shoes.
- Use with caution in individuals with severe foot deformities, advanced diabetes-related neuropathy or circulatory disorders without professional footwear assessment.
- Individuals with known sensitivity or allergy to polyurethane or certain synthetic materials in the shoe or footbed lining should avoid use.
- Do not use damaged or excessively worn clogs where outsole grip, structural integrity or antistatic properties may be compromised.
Adverse Effects
- If incorrectly sized, the clogs may cause pressure areas, blisters or rubbing on toes, heel or instep.
- Extended use with inadequate fit or arch support may contribute to foot, knee or back discomfort in susceptible individuals.
- Prolonged wear without adequate sock hygiene or cleaning of clogs may contribute to foot odour or superficial skin irritation.
- In rare cases, contact dermatitis or irritation may occur in users sensitive to polyurethane or synthetic linings.
- Reduced slip resistance or antistatic performance can occur if the outsole or footbed becomes heavily worn, contaminated with certain chemicals or not replaced when required.
Storage Conditions
- Store clogs in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Keep away from strong heat sources (radiators, heaters, open flames) that could deform the PU material.
- Avoid prolonged contact with solvents, strong acids, alkalis or aggressive cleaning chemicals that may damage polyurethane.
- Allow clogs and footbeds to dry completely after washing or disinfection before storage or reuse.
- Do not store heavy objects on top of the clogs to avoid deformation of the upper or footbed.
Duration
Not applicable in a medical treatment sense; the clogs are intended for daily occupational use throughout work shifts for as long as they remain in good condition and maintain their safety properties.
Onset
Comfort, support and protective benefits are immediate upon correct sizing and first wear; long-term benefits for posture and fatigue reduction depend on regular use during work shifts.
