Bleach \u2013 Super Thickened Toilet and Hard-Surface Cleaner
Description
Super thickened, chlorine-based liquid bleach in a 750ml bottle, designed for infection control and general-purpose disinfection of toilets, sinks, drains and hard surfaces. The thickened formulation provides increased contact time on vertical and inclined surfaces, helping to disinfect and remove unpleasant odours caused by organic waste.
Bnefits
- Super thickened formulation for improved cling and longer contact time on surfaces such as toilet bowls and sinks
- Chlorine-based bleach action for effective disinfection and odour control
- Suitable for use in lavatories, outside drains and kitchen sinks
- Can be diluted for cold bleaching and hard-surface disinfection tasks
- Pleasantly perfumed compared with standard thin bleach
- Intended for professional and institutional cleaning and infection-control applications
Indications
- Disinfection and cleaning of toilets and urinals
- Odour control and disinfection in outside drains and waste channels
- Cleaning and sanitising kitchen sinks and waste disposal areas (non-food-contact surfaces unless rinsed thoroughly)
- Cold bleaching of suitable white fabrics when correctly diluted
- General hard-surface disinfection in washrooms and similar environments where chlorine bleach is appropriate
Composition
- Sodium hypochlorite solution (chlorine-based bleaching and disinfecting agent)
- Sodium laureth sulfate or similar anionic surfactant (for wetting and cleaning action)
- Sodium hydroxide (alkali used for pH control and product stability)
- Water
- Minor formulation aids, fragrance and stabilisers as per manufacturer’s specification
Formulation
- Viscous, super thickened liquid bleach
- Strong chlorine (hypochlorite) odour or characteristic perfumed chlorine odour
- Highly alkaline (approximate pH of undiluted product around 13)
- Classified as an irritant / corrosive hazardous mixture under CLP depending on exact SDS revision
Packaging
- 750ml plastic bottle
- Retail and professional case configurations typically supplied as 12 x 750ml bottles
- Labelled according to UK/EU CLP hazard labelling requirements for hypochlorite-based bleach products
Usage
- Toilet and lavatory cleaning (neat): Lift toilet seat, direct the super thickened bleach around the bowl and under the rim, ensuring full coverage of the surface. Leave in contact for at least 5 minutes, then brush and flush. Do not use simultaneously with acid cleaners.
- Outside drains (neat): Pour an appropriate amount of undiluted product into the drain to disinfect and remove unpleasant odours. Allow contact time before flushing through with plenty of water.
- Kitchen sinks (neat or diluted): Apply to waste outlets and surrounding non-metallic surfaces for odour control and disinfection. Rinse thoroughly with water after treatment and avoid prolonged contact with metals, particularly copper, nickel and iron.
- Cold bleaching of suitable white fabrics (diluted): Dilute at approximately 1:100 with cold water in a suitable container. Submerge compatible white cotton or similar fabrics, keeping coloured or delicate items separate. Rinse thoroughly after bleaching. Always check garment care labels before use.
- Disinfecting hard work surfaces (diluted): Prepare a dilute solution at approximately 1:50 with clean water. Apply to compatible hard, non-porous surfaces, allow a contact time of around 5 minutes for disinfection, then rinse with clean water. Avoid direct food-contact areas unless rinsed thoroughly.
- General safety: Always wear suitable protective gloves and eye protection when handling the undiluted product or strong solutions. Ensure good ventilation during use. Do not mix with acids, ammonia-containing products or other household chemicals, as this can release toxic chlorine gas.
- Environmental precautions: Prevent large quantities of the undiluted product from entering watercourses. Use the minimum effective amount for the task and dispose of solutions in accordance with local regulations.
Contraindications
- Not for use on skin, hair or any part of the body; not a medical or dermatological product
- Not suitable for use on wool, silk, leather, delicate fabrics or coloured textiles that are not bleach-safe
- Avoid use on metals, especially copper, nickel and iron, due to risk of corrosion and staining
- Do not mix with acidic products (e.g. descalers, toilet acids, vinegar-based cleaners) or ammonia-containing cleaners, as dangerous chlorine gas may be released
- Not intended for use on natural stone surfaces such as marble or limestone, or on painted, varnished or sensitive surfaces that may be damaged by strong alkali or bleach
- Do not ingest and keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs
Adverse Effects
- Causes serious eye damage if splashed into the eyes
- Causes skin irritation or chemical burns on prolonged or repeated contact with undiluted product
- Inhalation of mists or chlorine vapours may cause respiratory irritation, coughing and breathing discomfort, especially in poorly ventilated areas
- Ingestion may cause severe irritation or corrosion of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract, with risk of serious internal injury
- Contact with acids or incompatible chemicals can liberate toxic chlorine gas, leading to respiratory distress and potentially severe health effects
- Very toxic to aquatic organisms with long-lasting effects; harmful to the environment if released in quantity
Storage Conditions
- Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, well-ventilated place
- Protect from direct sunlight and sources of heat to limit decomposition of sodium hypochlorite
- Keep away from acids, ammonia, reducing agents and incompatible materials
- Store upright to prevent leakage
- Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised users
- Do not store in unlabelled or food/drink containers
Duration
Contact time for disinfection is typically a minimum of 5 minutes on hard surfaces and in toilets; duration of use otherwise depends on the specific cleaning task.
Onset
Begins to act within minutes of contact; disinfection and odour-control effects are generally achieved after approximately 5 minutes of recommended contact time.
