Rinse free shampoo caps for bedbound hair cleansing

Description

The Conti® Rinse Free Shampoo Cap - Lightly Fragranced is a pre-impregnated, single-use shampoo cap designed to cleanse and condition the hair of bedbound or immobile patients without the need for soap, water, or rinsing. The cap contains a pre-dosed blend of cleansers and conditioners; when gently massaged over the head, the rinse-free formulation is released into the hair while the hydrophilic polyester/viscose fabric absorbs oil and dirt, retaining them within the cap. The quick-drying formulation leaves hair feeling clean, soft, and towel-dry when the cap is removed. The product supports good infection prevention practice by reducing disturbance to patients and eliminating the need for traditional hair-washing equipment in professional healthcare environments.

Usage

  • Wash and dry hands, then apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as apron and gloves, in line with local infection prevention policies.
  • If using a dedicated Conti® Warmer, remove the required number of caps from the warmer; alternatively, use the cap at room temperature as per local protocol.
  • Check the cap temperature before use to ensure it is comfortably warm and not too hot for the patient.
  • Remove the shampoo cap from its packaging and unfold it fully.
  • Place the cap over the patient’s head, ensuring that all hair (including at the back and sides) is covered by the cap.
  • Gently massage the cap over the scalp and hair for several minutes so that the impregnated cleansers and conditioners are released and the hair becomes thoroughly saturated.
  • Continue massaging to ensure even distribution of the formulation and to maximise the removal of oil and dirt, which are absorbed and retained within the hydrophilic fabric of the cap.
  • After the hair has been thoroughly cleansed and conditioned, remove the cap from the head.
  • Allow the hair to dry naturally; do not rinse the hair with water. Towel drying is generally not required due to the quick-drying formulation, but may be used lightly if desired.
  • Dispose of the used shampoo cap and PPE in accordance with local clinical waste policies. Do not macerate and do not flush the cap.
  • Do not re-warm or reuse any opened product; discard any unused caps from an opened pack as directed by local protocols.

Contraindications

  • Do not use on patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to any component of the shampoo formulation or cap material.
  • Not intended for use on broken, severely irritated or infected areas of the scalp unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Do not use if the cap feels excessively hot after warming; allow to cool to a safe, comfortable temperature before application.

Adverse Effects

  • Possible, though uncommon, localised skin or scalp irritation, redness or allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to any of the ingredients.
  • In case of accidental eye contact with the formulation, temporary irritation may occur; rinse eyes thoroughly with clean water and seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
  • If signs of irritation or hypersensitivity occur, discontinue use and obtain medical advice as appropriate.

Storage Conditions

  • Keep product dry and out of direct sunlight.
  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated place at room temperature, away from sources of heat or ignition.
  • Keep packaging tightly closed until immediately before use.
  • Do not freeze and avoid extreme temperatures that could affect product performance.
  • Once a pack is opened, do not re-warm unused product; dispose of any unused caps according to local policy.
  • Keep out of reach of children when not being used under professional supervision.
