Round-leg trolley bracket for sharps containers
Description
The Daniels POUDS® Round Trolley Bracket (code DD497) is a metal mounting bracket designed to securely attach SHARPSGUARD® sharps containers to round-leg trolleys at the point of use. Intended for use with a range of Daniels SHARPSGUARD® containers, including mini, 0.6, 1, com plus, 2.5, 3.75, 5 and 8.5 EXTRA, it provides a stable, dedicated fixing point so bins remain upright, accessible and safely restrained while healthcare staff dispose of sharps during clinical procedures or while moving trolleys around wards and treatment areas. The bracket simply screws to a round trolley leg and cradles the compatible bin, helping to improve sharps-handling safety and compliance with point-of-use disposal best practice.
Bnefits
- Securely mounts compatible SHARPSGUARD® sharps containers to the round leg of a trolley at the point of use
- Supports a wide range of Daniels SHARPSGUARD® containers, including mini, 0.6, 1, com plus, 2.5, 3.75, 5 and 8.5 EXTRA sizes
- Helps keep sharps bins upright, stable and close at hand, reducing the risk of spills or dropped sharps during movement
- Facilitates point-of-use sharps disposal in line with infection prevention and waste-management best practice
- Space-saving alternative to benchtop placement, freeing working surfaces on procedure trolleys and treatment carts
- Simple screw-fix installation to round trolley legs makes it easy to retrofit to existing equipment
- Durable coated metal construction suitable for frequent cleaning in clinical environments
Indications
- Mounting Daniels SHARPSGUARD® sharps bins on round-leg trolleys in hospitals, theatres, wards and clinics
- Use in treatment rooms, minor operations suites and outpatient departments where sharps are generated at the bedside or chair-side
- Providing point-of-use sharps disposal on drug/clinical trolleys during medication rounds or procedures
- Supporting compliance with local policies that require sharps containers to be fixed at the point of use rather than placed loosely on worktops
Composition
- Bracket body manufactured from metal (typically steel) formed to cradle compatible SHARPSGUARD® sharps containers
- Protective coloured coating (commonly red or orange in distributor listings) for corrosion resistance and easy identification
- Pre-drilled mounting plate or clamps designed for screw-fixing to a round trolley leg
- Mechanical fixing only; no moving parts or integrated fasteners beyond screw holes (screws usually supplied with the trolley or sourced locally, not typically included with the bracket)
Formulation
- Non-sterile, reusable metal mounting bracket for sharps containers
- Round-leg design specifically shaped to attach to cylindrical/round trolley legs
- Rated functionally for use with sharps containers up to approximately 5 L in capacity in some distributor specifications, while Daniels lists compatibility extending to 8.5 L EXTRA containers when used on appropriate trolleys
Packaging
- Supplied as a single POUDS® Round Trolley Bracket (DD497) per unit
- Typically supplied without screws or fixings; installers use appropriate hardware for the specific trolley leg material and diameter
- Usually delivered in a protective bag or small carton with basic labelling indicating product code (DD497), brand (Daniels Healthcare) and description (POUDS® round leg trolley bracket)
Usage
- Identify a suitable round leg on the trolley where the SHARPSGUARD® sharps bin should be located, ensuring it will not obstruct trolley operation or access to other equipment.
- Position the POUDS® Round Trolley Bracket against the round leg at the desired height, taking into account user ergonomics and safe viewing of fill lines on the sharps container.
- Using appropriate screws or clamps (as per local policy and trolley design), securely fix the bracket to the trolley leg through the pre-drilled mounting holes. Ensure the bracket is firmly attached and does not rotate or slide down the leg.
- Place a compatible SHARPSGUARD® sharps container (mini, 0.6, 1, com plus, 2.5, 3.75, 5 or 8.5 EXTRA) into the bracket, making sure it is seated correctly and stable.
- Confirm that the container’s lid can be opened and closed fully and that the bin can be properly locked/closed when full without removing it from the bracket.
- Use the sharps container according to its instructions for use, ensuring sharps are disposed of immediately after use and that the container is not filled beyond the indicated fill line.
- When the bin is full or ready for final closure, follow sharps container closure instructions, then remove the closed bin from the bracket and place it into the appropriate clinical waste stream.
- Clean the bracket regularly with compatible detergents/disinfectants as part of routine trolley decontamination, and check that fixings remain tight and free from corrosion.
- Inspect the bracket periodically for damage, bending or coating deterioration and replace it if structural integrity or secure mounting is compromised.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for use with sharps containers other than the specified Daniels SHARPSGUARD® models (mini, 0.6, 1, com plus, 2.5, 3.75, 5 and 8.5 EXTRA) unless compatibility has been confirmed by the manufacturer or competent person.
- Not designed for square-leg trolleys or flat-wall mounting; Daniels provides alternative POUDS® brackets for these applications.
- Should not be used on trolley legs that are too narrow, excessively wide or structurally unsound to safely support the weight of a full sharps container.
- Do not use if the bracket is visibly damaged, bent, cracked, corroded or unable to hold the sharps bin securely.
- Not intended as a handle, step or weight-bearing support; staff should not pull or push the trolley using the bracket or place non-compatible loads on it.
Adverse Effects
- No direct patient or user clinical adverse effects are expected, as the bracket is a non-contact accessory.
- If installed incorrectly or on an unsuitable trolley leg, there is a risk that the sharps container may become unstable, increasing the risk of spills or sharps exposure.
- Use of a damaged or heavily corroded bracket could lead to failure of the mounting point and sudden detachment of the sharps container.
- Protruding or poorly positioned brackets may present a minor bump or snag hazard in confined spaces if not considered during installation.
Storage Conditions
- Store brackets in a clean, dry indoor environment prior to installation, away from corrosive chemicals and excessive moisture.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals or strong solvents that may damage protective coatings or promote corrosion.
- Once installed, clean the bracket regularly with approved detergents/disinfectants compatible with coated metal surfaces as part of trolley cleaning protocols.
- Inspect periodically for signs of rust, coating damage or metal fatigue and replace units that show significant wear or structural compromise.
Duration
Not applicable \u2013 this product is a reusable hardware accessory for sharps containers rather than a medical or therapeutic treatment. It is intended for long-term use, subject to routine inspection, cleaning and replacement if damaged or corroded.
Onset
Not applicable in a clinical sense; safety and workflow benefits are realised immediately once the bracket is correctly installed on a trolley and a compatible sharps container is placed in it.
