- Remove a gauze swab from the pack using clean or aseptic technique as required by the procedure.
- Use the swab dry or moistened with an appropriate cleansing or irrigation solution to cleanse the skin or wound area as directed by clinical protocol.
- Apply gentle pressure with the swab to absorb blood or exudate, or to assist with wound debridement where indicated.
- Avoid re-using the same swab on multiple wound areas to minimise cross-contamination; these swabs are intended for single use.
- After use, dispose of the swab and any associated waste as clinical waste in accordance with local regulations.
- Do not attempt to sterilise the product in-house for invasive use; where a sterile dressing is required, use a sterile gauze swab product.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for use where a sterile dressing is required, such as open surgical wounds or invasive procedures; use sterile gauze swabs in those cases.
- Not intended for packing deep body cavities or heavily exudating wounds without appropriate clinical supervision.
- Use with caution on fragile or compromised skin where vigorous mechanical debridement may cause trauma.
- Do not use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to cotton or any component of the product.
Adverse Effects
- Possible local skin irritation or sensitivity in rare cases, particularly on very fragile or compromised skin.
- Shedding of fibres or lint may occur if the swab is cut or aggressively manipulated, with a small risk of fibre retention in the wound if not used appropriately.
- Excessive friction during cleansing or debridement may cause discomfort, erythema or superficial skin trauma.
- Use of non-sterile swabs where sterile products are indicated may increase the risk of infection.
Storage Conditions

- Keep the box tightly closed or appropriately covered when not in use to protect from dust and environmental contamination.
