Artery forceps / haemostatic forceps (straight 12.5cm)

Description

Instrapac Halsted Mosquito Artery Forceps Straight 12.5cm are single-use, sterile haemostatic forceps manufactured from medical grade surgical stainless steel. Designed as a ratcheted haemostat, they are used to secure and clamp small bleeding vessels and can also be used to grasp delicate tissues during minor surgical, medical and aesthetic procedures. The instrument is supplied individually in an easy-to-open sterile pack, with contents wrapped in a sterile field. As part of the Instrapac single-use range, these forceps provide a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to reprocessing reusable instruments, while helping protect patients against cross-infection risks and maintaining full compliance with medical device regulations.

Bnefits

  • Single-use, pre-sterilised artery forceps reducing the risk of cross infection between patients
  • Ratcheted haemostat design for secure clamping of small vessels and controlled haemostasis
  • Suitable for grasping delicate tissues during minor surgical and aesthetic procedures
  • Manufactured from medical grade surgical stainless steel for consistent performance
  • Supplied in an easy-to-open sterile pack with contents presented in a sterile field
  • High quality surgical steel instrument offering a reliable alternative to reusable forceps
  • Lower-cost alternative to cleaning, reprocessing and tracking reusable instruments
  • Supports compliance with the Medical Devices Directive and single-use device guidance

Indications

  • Clamping small blood vessels to achieve haemostasis during minor surgical procedures
  • Use as a haemostatic forceps in general surgery, podiatry and outpatient procedures
  • Grasping and holding delicate tissues where fine, controlled pressure is required
  • Use in aesthetic and dermatology procedures (e.g. lesion removal, minor skin surgery) requiring fine haemostatic control
  • Inclusion in minor ops or procedure packs where a straight 12.5cm mosquito artery forceps is specified

Composition

  • Instrument body and jaws: medical grade surgical stainless steel
  • Ratcheted locking mechanism: integral to stainless steel handle design
  • Single-use sterile packaging: medical device–grade pouch with sterile barrier system

Formulation

  • Instrument type: Halsted mosquito artery forceps (straight)
  • Length: approximately 12.5 cm (125 mm)
  • Jaw design: fine, atraumatic mosquito-style jaws suitable for small vessels and delicate tissues
  • Handle: finger-ring handles with ratcheted locking mechanism for variable clamping pressure
  • Use: haemostasis and tissue handling in minor surgical and aesthetic procedures; single use only

Packaging

  • Individually packed single-use artery forceps in an easy-to-open sterile pouch
  • Contents wrapped or presented in a sterile field for aseptic presentation
  • Pack labelled with product name, brand (Instrapac), code 7888, lot number and expiry date
  • Sterile barrier system designed to maintain sterility until point of use
  • Intended for professional use only and clearly marked as single-use
  • Product origin indicated as from the European Community (EC) on many Instrapac lines

Usage

  • Before use, inspect the sterile pack for any damage, moisture or signs of compromised sterility; do not use if the pack is damaged or opened.
  • Check the expiry date and product code in accordance with local clinical and procurement protocols.
  • Open the pouch using aseptic technique, presenting the forceps onto a sterile field without touching non-sterile surfaces.
  • Use the Halsted mosquito artery forceps to secure and clamp small bleeding vessels by gently closing the jaws and engaging the ratchet to the required tension.
  • Use minimal necessary pressure when grasping delicate tissues to avoid tissue trauma.
  • During the procedure, reposition or release the ratchet as required, following standard clinical practice for haemostatic forceps.
  • After completing the procedure, dispose of the used forceps immediately in designated clinical or sharps waste according to local waste management policies.
  • Do not clean, disinfect, re-sterilise or reuse; the instrument is designed and validated for single use only.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if the sterile packaging is open, torn, punctured or otherwise compromised.
  • Do not reuse or reprocess; reuse may lead to loss of sterility, corrosion, mechanical failure and increased infection risk.
  • Not intended for clamping large vessels or for procedures requiring larger or more robust haemostatic instruments.
  • Do not use on tissues where the use of a haemostatic clamp is clinically inappropriate or contraindicated.
  • Do not use if the instrument appears bent, corroded, misaligned or otherwise damaged on visual inspection.
  • Not to be used beyond the labelled expiry date.

Adverse Effects

  • Local tissue trauma or bruising if excessive clamping force is applied or if the instrument is misused.
  • Potential slippage or inadequate haemostasis if incorrectly applied or used on vessels outside its intended size range.
  • Risk of infection to patients if sterility is compromised or if the instrument is improperly handled.
  • Risk of sharps or pinch injury to the user if safe handling practices are not followed when engaging or releasing the ratchet.
  • In rare cases, mechanical failure (e.g. ratchet malfunction) could lead to sudden release of the clamp, potentially causing bleeding.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a clean, dry environment at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture.
  • Keep in the original sterile packaging until immediately before use to maintain sterility.
  • Avoid crushing, bending or stacking heavy items on top of the packs to prevent damage to the sterile barrier system.
  • Follow any additional storage instructions stated on the outer packaging or provided by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure stock rotation so that older stock is used before newer stock, respecting expiry dates.

Duration

Not applicable (used for the duration of a single clinical or surgical procedure only)

Onset

Immediate mechanical haemostatic effect when applied to bleeding vessels during the procedure
