Reusable physio hot & cold gel pack

Description

The Koolpak Physio Reusable Hot & Cold Pack is an oversized gel pack (28 x 36cm, 1.8kg) designed specifically for physiotherapy applications and professional use. Its extra-large flexible design moulds to larger body areas, delivering either cold therapy when chilled or heat therapy when warmed. The non-toxic gel can be frozen or heated multiple times, and the pack remains flexible in both hot and cold states. When used cold it can stay chilled for up to 2 hours at room temperature, making it ideal for treating a wide range of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries, muscular pain and general aches across areas such as the back, thighs and shoulders.

Bnefits

  • Extra-large 28 x 36cm pack covers a greater surface area than standard gel packs
  • Designed specifically for physiotherapy and professional clinical applications
  • Perfect for use on larger body areas such as the back, thighs, hips and shoulders
  • Oversized flexible pack moulds closely to the problem area for effective contact
  • Non-toxic gel can be frozen or heated many times for repeated use
  • Remains flexible when cold or hot for comfortable application
  • When chilled, can remain cold for up to 2 hours at room temperature
  • Reusable design provides a cost-effective hot and cold therapy solution
  • Welded seams help prevent splitting and leakage during use

Indications

  • Acute soft tissue injuries where cold therapy is indicated (sprains, strains, bruises, swelling)
  • Chronic or recurring muscular aches and pains where heat therapy may help
  • General physiotherapy treatment for larger body areas such as back, shoulders, thighs and hips
  • Post-exercise or sports-related soreness and stiffness

Composition

  • Non-toxic gel formulation containing carbomer, glycerol and water
  • Flexible plastic outer pouch with welded seams to reduce risk of splitting
  • Approximate dimensions: 28 x 36cm
  • Approximate weight: 1.8kg

Formulation

  • Reusable hot and cold gel pack intended for external use on intact skin only
  • Can be frozen in a domestic freezer for cold therapy
  • Can be heated in a microwave or hot water according to manufacturer’s instructions for heat therapy

Packaging

  • Supplied as a single reusable physio hot & cold gel pack
  • Standard polythene outer pack with welded seams
  • Professionally labelled with product name, dimensions and basic usage information

Usage

  • Always wrap the pack in a cloth or protective sleeve before applying to the skin to prevent burns or cold injury.
  • For cold therapy: place the pack in a freezer for up to 2 hours before use to ensure thorough cooling.
  • Remove from the freezer and check the pack for any signs of damage or leakage before use.
  • Wrap the pack in a suitable cloth or cover and apply to the affected area.
  • Use in short intervals of no longer than 20 minutes at a time, allowing the skin to return to normal temperature between applications.
  • For heat therapy (microwave): ensure the gel is evenly distributed inside the pack before heating.
  • Place the pack flat in the microwave and heat for approximately 30 seconds at 850W.
  • Remove carefully and massage the pack to disperse the heat evenly through the gel.
  • If additional heat is required, continue heating in 5-second intervals, checking the temperature each time to avoid overheating. Reduce times for higher power microwaves.
  • Alternatively, for heat therapy (hot water): follow the manufacturer’s guidance for immersing the pack in hot (not boiling) water for a specified period, then dry and wrap before application.
  • Always test the pack temperature with your hand before placing it on the patient to ensure it is comfortably warm or cold, not extreme.
  • Use in short intervals of no longer than 20 minutes for heat therapy, with rest periods between treatments.
  • Never place the pack directly onto the skin, as extreme hot or cold temperatures can cause burns.
  • If the pack becomes punctured or leaks, discontinue use immediately. If the gel is swallowed, drink plenty of water; if it comes into contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if concerned.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and always use under adult supervision.

Contraindications

  • Use with caution and seek medical advice before use if you have circulatory problems or reduced sensitivity to heat or cold.
  • Not recommended for use without adult supervision in children.
  • Do not use on areas of broken or severely damaged skin unless directed by a healthcare professional.

Adverse Effects

  • Risk of cold or heat burns if the pack is applied directly to the skin or used for excessive durations.
  • Possible discomfort, redness or skin irritation; discontinue use if symptoms occur or worsen.
  • If the gel escapes from a punctured pack and is swallowed or contacts the eyes, it may cause irritation; follow first-aid advice and seek medical attention if necessary.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources when not being actively frozen or heated.
  • If kept in a freezer for cold therapy readiness, place the pack flat and protect it from sharp objects that could cause punctures.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp items on top of the pack during storage.
  • Do not attempt to puncture, cut or open the pack.
  • Ensure the pack is clean and dry before storage.

Duration

Typically used in short applications of up to 20 minutes at a time for both hot and cold therapy, with rest intervals between applications. When chilled, the pack can remain cold for up to approximately 2 hours at room temperature, allowing repeated short applications during this period as advised by a healthcare professional.

Onset

Cooling or warming effects are felt immediately once the prepared pack is applied to the affected area.
