Reusable physio hot & cold gel pack
Description
The Koolpak Physio Reusable Hot & Cold Pack is an oversized gel pack (28 x 36cm, 1.8kg) designed specifically for physiotherapy applications and professional use. Its extra-large flexible design moulds to larger body areas, delivering either cold therapy when chilled or heat therapy when warmed. The non-toxic gel can be frozen or heated multiple times, and the pack remains flexible in both hot and cold states. When used cold it can stay chilled for up to 2 hours at room temperature, making it ideal for treating a wide range of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries, muscular pain and general aches across areas such as the back, thighs and shoulders.

Usage
- Always wrap the pack in a cloth or protective sleeve before applying to the skin to prevent burns or cold injury.
- For cold therapy: place the pack in a freezer for up to 2 hours before use to ensure thorough cooling.
- Remove from the freezer and check the pack for any signs of damage or leakage before use.
- Wrap the pack in a suitable cloth or cover and apply to the affected area.
- Use in short intervals of no longer than 20 minutes at a time, allowing the skin to return to normal temperature between applications.
- For heat therapy (microwave): ensure the gel is evenly distributed inside the pack before heating.
- Place the pack flat in the microwave and heat for approximately 30 seconds at 850W.
- Remove carefully and massage the pack to disperse the heat evenly through the gel.
- If additional heat is required, continue heating in 5-second intervals, checking the temperature each time to avoid overheating. Reduce times for higher power microwaves.
- Alternatively, for heat therapy (hot water): follow the manufacturer’s guidance for immersing the pack in hot (not boiling) water for a specified period, then dry and wrap before application.
- Always test the pack temperature with your hand before placing it on the patient to ensure it is comfortably warm or cold, not extreme.
- Use in short intervals of no longer than 20 minutes for heat therapy, with rest periods between treatments.
- Never place the pack directly onto the skin, as extreme hot or cold temperatures can cause burns.
- If the pack becomes punctured or leaks, discontinue use immediately. If the gel is swallowed, drink plenty of water; if it comes into contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if concerned.
- Keep out of the reach of children and always use under adult supervision.
Contraindications
- Use with caution and seek medical advice before use if you have circulatory problems or reduced sensitivity to heat or cold.
- Not recommended for use without adult supervision in children.
- Do not use on areas of broken or severely damaged skin unless directed by a healthcare professional.
Adverse Effects
- Risk of cold or heat burns if the pack is applied directly to the skin or used for excessive durations.
- Possible discomfort, redness or skin irritation; discontinue use if symptoms occur or worsen.
- If the gel escapes from a punctured pack and is swallowed or contacts the eyes, it may cause irritation; follow first-aid advice and seek medical attention if necessary.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources when not being actively frozen or heated.
- If kept in a freezer for cold therapy readiness, place the pack flat and protect it from sharp objects that could cause punctures.
- Do not place heavy or sharp items on top of the pack during storage.
- Do not attempt to puncture, cut or open the pack.
- Ensure the pack is clean and dry before storage.
Duration
Typically used in short applications of up to 20 minutes at a time for both hot and cold therapy, with rest intervals between applications. When chilled, the pack can remain cold for up to approximately 2 hours at room temperature, allowing repeated short applications during this period as advised by a healthcare professional.
Onset
Cooling or warming effects are felt immediately once the prepared pack is applied to the affected area.
