Description

Reusable gel-filled hot and cold pack from Koolpak, designed for repeated use in the treatment of soft tissue injuries. The 16cm x 28cm (400g) pack can be chilled in a freezer or heated in a microwave/hot water, remaining flexible at both temperatures to mould around the body. It provides warm relief for muscular and joint aches and pains and cold therapy to help relieve pain and reduce swelling, staying cooler for longer than a standard ice pack and ideal where instant hot or cold therapy is not essential.

Usage

  • FOR COLD THERAPY: Place the pack in a freezer for approximately 2 hours or until adequately chilled.
  • Wrap the chilled pack in a cloth or protective sleeve before applying to the skin.
  • Apply to the affected area for up to 20–30 minutes per session, checking the skin regularly.
  • FOR HOT THERAPY (MICROWAVE): Place the pack flat in a microwave and heat for about 20 seconds, then check the temperature.
  • If additional heat is required, continue heating in 10-second bursts, checking the temperature between each burst.
  • FOR HOT THERAPY (HOT WATER): Alternatively, immerse the pack in hot (not boiling) water until it reaches a comfortable temperature.
  • Always ensure the pack is comfortably warm, not hot, before use and wrap in a cloth or sleeve prior to application.
  • Allow the pack to return to room temperature between heating or cooling cycles and follow local guidelines on frequency of use.

Contraindications

  • Do not apply the pack directly to bare skin; always use a cloth or protective sleeve to prevent cold or heat burns.
  • Do not use on areas of broken or damaged skin unless advised by a healthcare professional.
  • Use with caution, or seek medical advice before use, in patients with impaired circulation, reduced sensation, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.
  • Not recommended for individuals with known sensitivities or allergies to cold or heat therapies unless cleared by a clinician.
  • Do not use for prolonged periods or while sleeping.

Adverse Effects

  • Prolonged or direct contact with the skin may cause cold burns, frostbite or heat burns.
  • Local skin redness, irritation or discomfort can occur if applied for too long or at excessive temperatures.
  • If pain, swelling or skin changes worsen during use, discontinue treatment and seek medical advice.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat when not in use.
  • For cold therapy readiness, the pack may be stored in a domestic freezer as per manufacturer’s guidance.
  • Do not puncture or cut the pack; discard if the outer pouch becomes damaged or leaks.
  • Avoid exposing the pack to open flames, sharp objects or excessive temperatures outside the recommended range.

Duration

Typically up to 20\u201330 minutes per application; pack may remain hot or cold for up to around 30 minutes depending on ambient conditions.

Onset

Cooling or warming effect begins within minutes of application to the affected area.
