Pre-injection alcohol swabs
Description
MediPro 70% Alcohol IPA Pre-Injection Swabs are individually wrapped, non-woven swabs impregnated with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution for rapid skin antisepsis prior to injections and similar procedures. Supplied as a box of 100 single-use swabs, they are designed to disinfect and help reduce surface bacteria on the skin at the intended injection site. Each sachet contains a medium-sized, pre-moistened swab that is quick-drying, convenient to use and suitable for professional clinical environments such as GP surgeries, hospitals, vaccination clinics and aesthetic treatment rooms.
Bnefits
- Contains 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for effective pre-injection skin antisepsis.
- Acts as a disinfectant to clean and help remove bacteria from the skin prior to administering an injection.
- Individually wrapped swabs maintain hygiene, reduce cross-contamination risk and support single-patient use.
- Non-woven, impregnated swab material is soft yet strong for controlled wiping of the skin.
- Quick-drying formulation leaves minimal residue and allows the injection site to be prepared efficiently.
- Compact box of 100 swabs is convenient for clinics, vaccination sessions and mobile practitioners.
- Suitable for a wide range of injections including vaccines, dermal fillers and other injectable therapies.
- Cost-effective alternative that is stated to be identical in quality, design and performance to the MS100 professional pre-injection swabs.
Indications
- Pre-injection skin cleansing and disinfection prior to intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injections.
- Skin preparation before vaccination procedures in GP practices, pharmacies and clinics.
- Pre-procedural skin cleansing before aesthetic injections such as dermal fillers, botulinum toxin and mesotherapy (in conjunction with local protocols).
- General pre-procedural skin antisepsis where a 70% isopropyl alcohol swab is appropriate and permitted by local guidelines.
Composition
- Isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) 70% v/v as the active disinfectant component in the impregnating solution.
- Purified water q.s. to 100% of the impregnating solution (approximately 30% v/v) as solvent and diluent.
- Non-woven swab material (synthetic/viscose blend or similar) as the wipe substrate, impregnated with the 70% IPA solution.
Formulation
- Pre-moistened, non-sterile, single-use pre-injection swabs.
- Impregnated with 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol solution in water.
- Non-woven swab substrate designed to be lint-minimising and durable when saturated.
- External-use only preparation intended for intact skin antisepsis immediately prior to injection.
- Flammable, quick-evaporating alcohol formulation to provide rapid drying of the skin.
Packaging
- Box of 100 individual pre-injection swabs.
- Each swab is sealed in its own foil or film sachet to maintain saturation and hygiene until use.
- Carton labelled with product name, alcohol concentration (70% IPA), quantity (100), brand (MediPro) and key usage information.
- Suitable size for storage in treatment rooms, emergency trolleys, vaccination kits and aesthetic procedure trays.
Usage
- For external use on intact skin only. Follow local clinical and infection prevention guidelines.
- Select one sachet from the box immediately before use and tear open along the indicated notch.
- Remove the impregnated swab from the sachet without touching the area of the swab that will contact the patient’s skin.
- Apply the swab to the intended injection site using firm, even strokes, typically working from the centre outwards in a circular motion.
- Ensure the entire injection area is thoroughly wiped to maximise skin decontamination.
- Allow the skin to air-dry completely for at least 30 seconds (or according to local protocol) before inserting the needle; do not blow on or fan the area.
- Discard the used swab and empty sachet immediately into appropriate clinical waste.
- Do not reuse swabs; use a new swab for each injection site and for each patient.
- Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes and broken skin. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
- Keep away from ignition sources during and immediately after use, as the alcohol solution is highly flammable.
Contraindications
- Do not use on patients with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to isopropyl alcohol.
- Not for use on open wounds, extensively broken skin or mucous membranes unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional in line with product labelling and local guidelines.
- Avoid use on neonates or very premature infants where alcohol-based skin preparations may be restricted by local policy.
- Do not use near ignition sources, flames or while smoking due to the high flammability of 70% isopropyl alcohol.
- Not intended for ingestion or for use as a general hand rub or large-area body cleanser.
Adverse Effects
- Transient local skin reactions at the application site such as stinging, burning sensation, redness or dryness, especially on sensitive skin.
- Potential for contact dermatitis or irritation with repeated or prolonged use, particularly in individuals with pre-existing skin conditions.
- Allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to isopropyl alcohol are rare but may occur; signs can include rash, urticaria or swelling.
- Accidental eye contact may cause irritation, redness and watering; if this occurs, the eye should be rinsed thoroughly with clean water and medical advice sought if symptoms persist.
- Inhalation of high concentrations of vapour in poorly ventilated areas may cause dizziness, headache or drowsiness; normal clinical use with a single swab is unlikely to reach such levels.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep away from open flames, sparks and other ignition sources due to flammability of the alcohol content.
- Store in the original outer carton or equivalent container to protect sachets from physical damage and contamination.
- Keep the box tightly closed when not in use and avoid puncturing or tearing individual sachets until required.
- Observe any expiry date on the outer packaging and do not use swabs beyond this date.
- Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.
Duration
Used as a single-episode intervention immediately before each injection or procedure; there is no fixed course duration. A fresh swab is used for each injection site and each patient encounter as required by local protocols.
Onset
Disinfectant action begins on contact with the skin, with the primary antiseptic effect occurring within seconds as the 70% isopropyl alcohol solution wets the area and during the brief contact time before evaporation.
