Sanitising Wipes

Description

Nilaqua Universal Biodegradable Hand and Surface Wipes x 50 are alcohol-free, antiviral and antibacterial wipes made in the UK from biodegradable cellulose wood fibre. They are designed for cleaning and disinfecting both hands and a wide range of hard, non-porous surfaces. The wipes use a quaternary ammonium compound formulation (benzalkonium chloride and didecyl ammonium chloride) to provide proven activity against enveloped viruses, bacteria, spores and fungi, beginning from 30 seconds of contact time. Each flow-wrap pack contains 50 pre-impregnated wipes with a fresh pomelo (citrus) fragrance, suitable for use in healthcare environments (including infection control in clinics, hospital wards and care homes), as well as schools, kitchens, workplaces, vehicles and domestic settings.

Bnefits

  • Biodegradable, plastic-free wipe material made from cellulose wood fibre (40 GSM) for reduced environmental impact
  • Alcohol-free formulation – gentler on skin and compatible with a wider range of surfaces
  • Antiviral and antibacterial activity with proven effectiveness against enveloped viruses, bacteria, spores and fungi
  • Kills up to 99.99% of viruses and 99.9999% of bacteria from 30 seconds contact time
  • Tested skin safe and suitable for use on hands as well as hard, non-porous surfaces
  • Vegan friendly and Halal compliant
  • Non-tainting to hard surfaces and suitable for food-prep and kitchen areas (check local policies)
  • Fresh pomelo citrus fragrance for pleasant sensory profile in clinical and non-clinical environments
  • Pre-impregnated, ready-to-use wipes for quick, convenient infection control without additional liquids
  • Made in the UK with focus on reducing plastic waste and supporting eco-friendly infection control

Indications

  • Routine cleaning and disinfection of non-porous hard surfaces in healthcare settings (e.g. treatment couches, trolleys, door handles, worktops, equipment exteriors in line with manufacturer guidance)
  • Hand hygiene where soap and water are not immediately available and an alcohol-free option is preferred (e.g. for sensitive skin or where alcohol is restricted)
  • Infection control in hospitals, GP surgeries, dental and aesthetic/dermatology clinics, care homes and community care environments
  • Use in schools, offices, hospitality, vehicles, and domestic settings for rapid surface and hand decontamination
  • Situations where biodegradable, plastic-free wipes are preferred to reduce environmental impact compared with conventional plastic-based wipes

Composition

  • Wipe substrate: pre-impregnated cellulose wood fibre, 40 GSM, 100% plastic free
  • Active ingredients (biocidal): benzalkonium chloride (quaternary ammonium compound)
  • Active ingredients (biocidal): didecyl ammonium chloride (quaternary ammonium compound)
  • Base solution: water and excipients (non-alcohol), pH approximately 7.0
  • Fragrance: pomelo (citrus) odour as indicated in technical specification
  • Formulated to be alcohol free, vegan friendly and Halal compliant

Formulation

  • Alcohol-free, water-based disinfectant solution impregnated onto biodegradable cellulose wipes
  • Quaternary ammonium compound formulation providing virucidal, bactericidal, fungicidal and sporicidal activity against a wide range of microorganisms
  • Balanced pH (~7) formulation intended to be non-irritating and suitable for frequent use on skin and non-porous surfaces

Packaging

  • Flow-wrap PET outer pack (recyclable where facilities exist), containing 50 pre-impregnated wipes
  • Pack size: 50 wipes per pack; 20 packs per case (according to manufacturer technical specification)
  • Each packet weight: approximately 190 g (manufacturer data)
  • Individual wipe size: approximately 21 cm x 16.5 cm
  • Pack features a resealable label to reduce drying out between uses

Usage

  • Use only as directed on the product packaging and in accordance with local infection control protocols.
  • Open the flow-wrap pack by lifting the resealable label and remove one wipe.
  • For surfaces: Wipe the surface thoroughly, ensuring it is visibly wet and that all areas are contacted. Pay particular attention to high-touch areas such as handles, switches and worktops.
  • Allow the surface to air dry; do not rinse off. Observe a minimum contact time of 30 seconds to achieve the stated microbiological efficacy.
  • For hands: Wipe over all areas of the hands, including between fingers and around nails, until the skin is fully covered. Continue wiping until hands are visibly clean and the product has been worked over the whole surface of the hands.
  • Allow hands to air dry; do not rinse. Use additional wipes if hands are heavily soiled.
  • Reseal the pack carefully after each use to prevent the remaining wipes from drying out.
  • Dispose of used wipes in general waste according to local guidelines. Do not flush wipes down toilets.
  • Wash hands with soap and water at the earliest opportunity as part of routine hand hygiene best practice, especially if hands are visibly soiled.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity or allergy to benzalkonium chloride, didecyl ammonium chloride, quaternary ammonium compounds, fragrances, or any other component of the formulation.
  • Use on severely broken, extensively damaged or diseased skin unless directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Use on mucous membranes (e.g. eyes, mouth, genital mucosa) or for internal use.
  • Use on invasive medical devices or critical instruments where specific high-level disinfection or sterilisation processes are required.
  • Not intended for use in neonates or specific vulnerable groups where local policies advise against quaternary ammonium compounds on skin.

Adverse Effects

  • Generally well tolerated when used as directed; the formulation is described as tested skin safe and non-irritating for routine use.
  • Possible mild and usually transient skin reactions such as dryness, redness or irritation, particularly with very frequent use or in individuals with pre-existing sensitive skin or dermatitis.
  • Rare allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to quaternary ammonium compounds, fragrance or other excipients (e.g. contact dermatitis); discontinue use and seek medical advice if signs of allergy occur.
  • If accidental eye contact occurs, temporary irritation, redness or discomfort may result; rinse cautiously with water and seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

Storage Conditions

  • Store wipes in their original, sealed packaging until use.
  • Recommended storage temperature range: 0–25 °C as per manufacturer technical specification.
  • Protect from extreme heat, direct sunlight and frost.
  • Ensure the resealable label is fully closed after each use to minimise evaporation and drying of wipes.
  • Shelf life: 12 months unopened under recommended storage conditions; once opened, use within approximately 3 months (manufacturer guidance).
  • Keep out of reach of children when not in use.

Duration

Single-use per wipe; contact time from 30 seconds per application. Frequency of use is determined by local infection control protocols and clinical or environmental risk (e.g., before and after patient contact, after potential contamination, and regularly for high-touch surfaces).

Onset

Biocidal action begins from 30 seconds of contact time against specified viruses and bacteria when used as directed on hands and hard surfaces.
