Cooling bandage recharge coolant spray
Description
Physicool Recharging Coolant Spray 500ml is a specially formulated evaporative coolant solution designed to recharge Physicool cooling bandages and wraps. The coolant can be sprayed directly onto the bandage while it is on the body, or onto the rolled-up bandage in its resealable foil pack, allowing the material to reabsorb the solution. As part of the Physicool rapid evaporation cooling system, the spray draws heat out of the tissues, helping to rapidly reduce swelling and inflammation, minimise pain and speed up recovery from soft tissue injuries, post-operative swelling and sports-related trauma. The 500ml bottle provides multiple recharges, extending the life and effectiveness of Physicool cooling bandages and supports.
Bnefits
- Allows Physicool cooling bandages to be recharged multiple times, extending their usable life and cost-effectiveness
- Provides rapid evaporative cooling without the need for ice or refrigeration, working straight from the bottle
- Helps to quickly reduce swelling and inflammation in injured or post-operative tissues
- Minimises pain by lowering skin and deep-tissue temperature and helping to numb local nerve endings
- Supports faster recovery and improved mobility so users can return to normal activity sooner
- Can be sprayed directly onto the bandage while worn, or onto the rolled-up bandage in its foil pack for full re-saturation
- Portable and easy to use in clinical, sports and home settings
- Designed to work with Physicool bandages to deliver 360° cooling and compression around the injury site
Indications
- Recharging Physicool cooling bandages (e.g. size A and size B wraps) after their initial coolant has evaporated
- Ongoing cold therapy for acute soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains and contusions
- Management of post-operative swelling and pain where cold compression is indicated
- Support of rehabilitation following musculoskeletal surgery (e.g. knee arthroplasty) where Physicool bandages are used as part of the protocol
- Sports and occupational injuries requiring repeated cold compression therapy over hours or days
- General musculoskeletal pain, swelling or bruising where Physicool bandages are clinically appropriate
Composition
- Proprietary rapidly evaporating coolant solution specifically formulated for Physicool bandages
- Independent published data on Physicool cooling solution spray describes a composition of approximately 0.2% menthol and 20% ethanol in water (balance purified water), providing vapocoolant and evaporative cooling effects
- Exact commercial coolant formulation is proprietary to Physicool Ltd and may include additional stabilisers or formulation aids not publicly disclosed
Formulation
- Liquid coolant solution supplied in a 500ml spray bottle
- Evaporative, alcohol-based cooling fluid designed to be absorbed into Physicool’s open-cell cotton bandages
- Non-sterile topical device coolant; intended for external use on bandages and supports, not for direct application to open wounds or mucous membranes
- Optimised viscosity and volatility to allow rapid evaporation and deep-tissue cooling when the charged bandage is applied
Packaging
- 500ml plastic spray or squeeze bottle with spray/top applicator (packaging style may vary by distributor)
- Clearly labelled with product name, volume, brand and basic instructions for bandage recharging and application
- Intended for multiple uses until the 500ml volume is consumed
- Supplied as a standalone coolant bottle or as part of Physicool recovery bundles with bandages
Usage
- Use only with Physicool cooling bandages or supports, following the instructions supplied with the bandage and coolant.
- To recharge a bandage off the body: roll up the dry Physicool bandage and place it back into its resealable foil pack, then apply sufficient coolant to fully saturate the bandage. Seal the pack, allow the bandage to absorb the coolant for several minutes, then remove and gently squeeze out any excess fluid before reapplying to the body.
- To top up on the body: if the cooling effect reduces while the bandage is still in place, spray Physicool coolant directly onto the outer surface of the bandage, allowing it to soak through and restore the cooling effect. Avoid spraying directly onto bare skin or eyes.
- Wrap and secure the recharged bandage according to standard Physicool bandage instructions, ensuring firm but comfortable compression without restricting circulation.
- Typical application times are around 20–30 minutes per session, with each full recharge offering up to approximately 2 hours of cooling, depending on ambient temperature and airflow. Follow local clinical protocols for frequency and duration of cold therapy.
- Do not occlude the bandage with plastic or other non-breathable coverings while using Physicool coolant, as effective cooling relies on air circulation and evaporation.
- Store the bottle upright with the cap closed when not in use to minimise evaporation and spillage.
- Check the skin regularly for signs of excessive cooling, irritation or impaired circulation; discontinue use if any adverse signs occur and seek medical advice where appropriate.
Contraindications
- Do not apply coolant directly to broken skin, open wounds, mucous membranes or infected areas.
- Not suitable for individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to menthol, ethanol (alcohol) or any other components of the coolant solution.
- Use with caution in patients with severely compromised circulation, peripheral vascular disease, severe diabetes-related neuropathy or conditions where cold therapy is contraindicated; seek medical advice before use.
- Avoid use on areas with markedly reduced sensation, as the user may not be able to detect excessive cold or pressure.
- Highly flammable: keep away from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces and sources of ignition; do not smoke during application.
Adverse Effects
- Possible transient skin redness, cooling-related discomfort or mild irritation beneath or around the bandage.
- Potential for contact dermatitis or allergic reaction to menthol, alcohol or other components in sensitised individuals; discontinue use if rash, itching, burning or persistent irritation occurs and seek medical advice.
- If the bandage is over-tightened after recharging, symptoms of impaired circulation (e.g. pain, numbness, tingling, pallor) may develop distal to the bandage; remove and reapply more loosely.
- Excessive or prolonged cold exposure without appropriate breaks may cause cold-induced skin reactions in susceptible users; follow recommended application times.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- Keep the container tightly closed when not in use to minimise evaporation and maintain product effectiveness.
- Do not freeze; refrigeration is not required for operation and the product is designed to work at room temperature.
- Due to alcohol content and flammability, keep away from naked flames, sparks and hot surfaces.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Use before the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
Duration
Used intermittently as required during the acute phase of injury or post-operative recovery; a 500ml bottle typically provides multiple full recharges (commonly quoted as fully recharging a size A bandage around 7 times and a size B bandage around 4\u20135 times) over several days of treatment, depending on frequency of use and volume applied.
Onset
Cooling and pain relief begin within minutes of reapplying or recharging the bandage, as the coolant evaporates and draws heat from the tissues. Users commonly experience noticeable symptom relief shortly after application, with sustained cooling for up to approximately 2 hours per full recharge.
