    Description

    Indications

    Composition

    • White birch wood (natural, untreated or appropriately processed birch) for each depressor blade.

    Usage

    • Remove a single depressor from the box immediately prior to use.
    • Use the depressor to gently press down the patient’s tongue to expose the throat, tonsils, oral cavity or oropharynx.
    • Use once for a single patient — do not reuse or attempt to sterilize, as wooden depressors are single-use only.
    • Dispose of the used depressor in appropriate clinical waste (non-sharps) or according to local infection-control protocols.
    • Wash hands or use hand hygiene before and after each patient examination.

    Contraindications

    • Do not use if the depressor appears cracked, splintered or has rough edges — discard to avoid patient discomfort or injury.
    • Not suitable for surgical sterilization — intended for single-use only.
    • Not recommended for patients with severe gag reflex if alternative examination methods are advised by clinician.
