Reusable tourniquet / blood stasis device
Description
The Riester ri-clip Vein Compressor LF5000 is a reusable, latex-free tourniquet designed to facilitate fast and easy venipuncture and blood sampling. Manufactured from lightweight, completely metal-free plastic, it features an easy tension and release clip mechanism that allows one-handed operation, providing the clinician with a free hand during application. The smooth band design helps to avoid pinching the skin or catching small hairs, improving patient comfort. The device can be disinfected using standard disinfectants or sterilised in an autoclave at 120 °C / 1 bar, making it suitable for repeated clinical use. Packed individually in a plastic bag, the ri-clip vein compressor offers an economical, hygienic and user-friendly solution for blood stasis during phlebotomy and infusion procedures.
Bnefits
- Provides fast and easy venous compression, simplifying blood draws and venipuncture procedures.
- Latex-free construction helps prevent latex-related skin reactions and allergies in patients and staff.
- Easy tension and release clip mechanism enables one-handed application and removal, leaving the other hand free.
- Smooth, high-quality plastic band avoids uncomfortable pinching of the skin and catching of small hairs, enhancing patient comfort.
- Lightweight, metal-free design is comfortable to wear and easy to handle.
- Reusable device can be disinfected with standard disinfectants or autoclaved at 120 °C / 1 bar for effective hygiene.
- Durable plastic construction designed for repeated use under routine clinical conditions.
- Compact and economical blood stasis product, supplied individually packed in a plastic bag.
Indications
- Temporary venous compression for venipuncture and blood sampling.
- Assistance with visualisation and palpation of peripheral veins prior to cannulation or injection.
- Use as a tourniquet in routine phlebotomy, outpatient clinics, hospital wards and emergency departments.
- Blood stasis during preparation for infusion or transfusion cannula insertion.
Composition
- High-quality plastic (polymer) band and clip mechanism, completely metal-free.
- Latex-free materials to minimise risk of allergic reactions.
Formulation
- Non-sterile, reusable mechanical tourniquet/vein compressor.
- Loop design with adjustable tension clip that locks and releases for one-handed operation.
- Autoclavable and disinfectable polymer material suitable for repeated clinical use.
- Available in latex-free version (LF5000) and latex version (5000) in some markets; this product refers specifically to the latex-free model.
Packaging
- Single ri-clip vein compressor (latex-free) supplied in a plastic bag.
- Typically supplied as one piece per sales unit.
- Labelling indicates model LF5000, latex-free version and Riester branding.
- Distributed through medical supply catalogues under categories such as blood stasis products, tourniquets or specialised examination instruments.
Usage
- Inspect the vein compressor before use; do not use if damaged, cracked or excessively worn.
- Position the band around the patient’s limb proximal to the intended venipuncture site.
- Tighten the band using the clip mechanism until adequate venous stasis is achieved, ensuring arterial flow is not excessively compromised.
- Confirm that the device is secure and comfortable, avoiding twisting or excessive compression.
- Proceed with vein localisation, venipuncture or cannula insertion while one hand remains free thanks to the locking clip design.
- Once venipuncture or cannulation is complete and blood flow is established as appropriate, release the tension by operating the clip and remove the vein compressor from the limb.
- After use, clean and disinfect the device with an appropriate disinfectant according to institutional protocols, or sterilise in an autoclave at 120 °C / 1 bar if required.
- Allow the device to dry completely before storing or reusing.
- Do not use the device on broken or compromised skin, and avoid prolonged application that could impair circulation.
- Follow local clinical guidelines and training for safe use of tourniquets during blood collection and IV access.
Contraindications
- Do not apply over areas of broken skin, infection, severe dermatitis or significant soft tissue injury.
- Use with caution or avoid in patients with severe peripheral vascular disease, fragile veins or known circulatory compromise, following clinical judgement.
- Avoid prolonged or excessive compression that may cause pain, numbness, tingling, cyanosis or compromise of arterial blood flow.
- Not suitable for use as a long-term constriction device or for purposes other than temporary venous compression for medical procedures.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to the device materials if such sensitivity is documented.
Adverse Effects
- If applied too tightly or for too long, potential for pain, discomfort, numbness or tingling distal to the application site.
- Transient skin marks or mild erythema from local pressure.
- Very rare risk of bruising or superficial vessel damage if excessive tension is applied.
- Possible skin irritation in individuals sensitive to the plastic material or disinfectants used on the device.
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep away from sharp objects or surfaces that could damage or deform the plastic band or clip.
- Ensure the device is clean and completely dry before storage to prevent degradation or microbial growth.
- Do not store in areas where it may be contaminated with chemicals or biological fluids.
- Keep out of reach of children and non-professional users.
Duration
Intended for short-term application during venipuncture or cannulation; the vein compressor should be applied only for the minimum time necessary to complete the procedure and released promptly once blood flow or access is established.
Onset
Immediate venous stasis and improved vein prominence upon proper application and tightening around the limb.
